      LALAH "TY" D. BROWNELL, 83, of Beulah, passed away Thursday, Dec. 02, 2004, at Munson Medical Center.
      Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, with Pastor W. James Allred officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
      A full obituary will be in Sunday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
      The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
     
      RAYMOND E. CARTER, 77, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Birchwood Nursing Center.
      Visitation will take place Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with the rosary to be prayed at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

      LEROY M. TROYER, 63, of Manistee, died suddenly Friday, Dec. 3, 2004.
      Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m., at the First Congregational Church in Onekama, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Roger Sherwood will officiate. Burial will follow the service at the Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington at 2:30 p.m.
      The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of arrangements.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Don Bleich, 74, of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at his home.
      Don was born Nov. 11, 1930, in Muskegon. He graduated from Muskegon Heights in 1948. Don served in the United States Army in the early 1950s, then attended Michigan State University, graduating in 1957 as an electrical engineer. He remained a loyal Spartan fan. Don married his "dear Dorothy" in 1957.
      He worked for the Redman/Singer Corporation and Toledo Comm in Owosso. He opened B.B.S. Motors, now Bay Motor Products, in Traverse City in 1975, retiring in 1986.
      Don enjoyed sports, hunting and the outdoors. He had a great respect for wildlife. He also enjoyed the lively conversation of his fellow Elk brothers and sisters.
      He is survived by his sister, Delores Koop of Florida; his children, Gwen Hall of Traverse City, Jackie Cordier of Lansing, Ken and Kathy Bleich of Rockford, Pam (Wayne) Seeger of Fruitport, David Bleich of Traverse City and Steve Bleich of Clinton Township. He also leaves his six grandchildren, Derick, Kenna, Kody, Corey, Shannon and Gwendolyn. He loved his "Hugabugies."
      Don was preceded in death by his very beloved wife, Dorothy; parents, Edward and Edith (Smith) Bleich; and a brother, Junior.
      Visitation for Don will be Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow visitation at 4 p.m. Sunday, also at the funeral home. Pastor Char Minger will officiate.
      The family requests any memorial contributions be sent to the charity closest to your hearts.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
      FIFE LAKE - Madalene Elnor Aldridge, 93, of Fife Lake, died peacefully with Beth at her side Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long-Term Care.
      Madalene was born in Duluth, Minn. on Nov. 30, 1911, the daughter of Frank and Lenore (Hoffman) Cummings. On Dec. 4, 1937, in Detroit, she married Wayne Aldridge, who preceded her in death.
      Madalene taught in several northern Michigan schools, retiring from Kalkaska High School. She loved bowling, and was a member of Rebekah's of Fife Lake, the Fife Lake Women's Club and the Fife Lake Methodist Church.
      She is survived by daughter, Beth (Carl) LaBonte; daughter-in-law, Mary (Lary) Schild; seven grandchildren, Lou Ransom, Kim (Aaron) Brock, Terri Dunn (Pete Lucas), Todd Ransom, Lonni Rogers (Corey Kroesing), Becky Aldridge (Dave Gildea) and Michael Aldridge (Amanda Ryan); five great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; six great-great-granddaughters; sister, Lois Anderson and many nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; son, Michael; daughter, Gail; three great-grandsons; one great-great-grandson; one brother; and one sister.
      Visitation will take place today, Dec. 4, 2004, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m., also at the funeral home, with Jeff Badgero officiating. Burial will be in the Springfield Township Cemetery.
      Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

      FRANKFORT - Chester "Chet" E. Nugent, 94, of Frankfort, died on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004. Born on the family farm in Benzie County on April 2, 1910, he was the fourth youngest child of Wesley and Mary (Burns) Nugent.
      Chet was a lifelong resident of Benzie County, where he purchased the family farm in 1936. He was a progressive, innovative farmer and a leader among local fruit growers. He was not only skillful and adept at repairing his own equipment, but also in designing and building things. Chet was known for looking into farming's future and investing in and helping develop cutting edge tools to make farming life more productive. In 1963, he formed Nugent Farms with his son, Don, and was one of the founders of Graceland Fruit in 1973. He retired from farming in 1978, though he continued planting trees well into his 80's at a pace which much younger men found hard to follow.
      A soft-spoken man, known for his honesty and integrity, he was a well-respected leader in the community. Chet was an active member of Blaine Christian Church and the Michigan Farm Bureau, and a life member of the Michigan State Horticultural Society. He participated in Blaine Township government and was a member of the Crystal Lodge 270 of the Masons. In 1992, he was a Grand Marshall of the National Cherry Festival Heritage Parade. A Special Tribute from the State of Michigan was presented to Chet in 2002 in recognition of his contributions.
      As a young man, Chet taught himself to play the violin and played for many round and square dances in the area. Following retirement, he took piano lessons, but concentrated on the harmonica. He played many a "gig" with the Harmonica Hoboes in the Northwest Michigan region. For many years, he continued his love of woodworking and excelled at building "jumpers." Members of his family will cherish the cradles and rocking horses he so lovingly made them.
      On August 18, 1937, Chet married Maisie Cornell, who was the mother of his children. She preceded him in death in 1969. Chet also was preceded in death by wives, Marguerite Knight and Ella Casterline; and by nine brothers; and two sisters.
      In 2001, he married Estella Deemer, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Duane (Irene), Donald (Gail), Neil (Linda), Jim (Toddy), Philip (Marcia), and Judy (Bruce) Riggins; 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia Morgan; a sister-in-law, Helen Nugent; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Estella's children, Jean (Roger) Fink, Joy (Stanley) Zick, Janeth (Lloyde) Stevens, Jalane (Karl) Schmidt, Bill (Violet) Deemer and Jill Van Setters; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
      Visitation will be held at the McElduff Funeral Home in Benzonia on Sunday, Dec. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Blaine Christian Church on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Bob Larimer officiating. Interment will be in the Blaine Township Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Blaine Christian Church Memorial Fund, Joyfield Road, Arcadia, MI 49613 or the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Foundation at 6686 S. Center Hwy., Traverse City, MI 49684.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Mike Weston, 68, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at his home. Formerly of Wayne and Marysville, he had been a resident of Traverse City since 1978.
      Mike served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Traverse City Orthodox Mission Church. He was employed in the gas industry for 43 years, retiring in 1995 as area manager of all field operations for ANR Storage in Kalkaska.
      Born July 11, 1936, in Flint, he was the son of Michael H. and Kathryn (Raslich) Weston. On Nov. 26, 1960, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wayne, he married Judith Brown, who survives.
      Also surviving are two sons, Mark Jennings (Kimberly) Weston of Algonac and David Michael (Tricia) Weston of Traverse City; brother, Theodore (Marlene) Weston of Sterling Heights; four grandchildren, Jacob and Lauren Rose Weston of Traverse City, and Alexis and Megan Weston of Algonac; and one niece and several nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Matthew David Weston.
      Friends may call Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Greek Orthodox services will be held Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Fr. Nectarios Rozadilla officiating. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
      Memorials may be directed to the Traverse City Orthodox Mission Church, 701 Monroe St., Traverse City, MI 49684.
     
      SARASOTA, Fla. - Helen Hanchett Stone, of Sarasota, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota, Fla., after an extended illness.
      She was born Oct. 21, 1922, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Ralph and Vera Hanchett. She graduated from Albion College in 1945, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.
      She was married to Dayton D. Stone in January of 1946. The couple resided in Big Rapids until 1976, when they moved to Harbor Springs, then to Sarasota in 1982.
      She was a member of the Church of the Palms in Sarasota, as well as a social member of The Oaks Club and TPC Prestancia.
      She leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her sons, Dayton D. Stone of Jupiter, Fla. and David D. Stone of Traverse City; her beloved grandchildren, David, Dayton and Christian Stone of Traverse City; as well as nephews and nieces.
      Her parents; husband; and sister, Kathryn Hanchett Korff preceded her in death.
      Services were held in Sarasota.

      GRAND RAPIDS - Mrs. Terri Lynn (Hartley) Wilson, 46, formerly of Traverse City, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004.
      Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband, Todd; son, Brandon and fiancé, Courtney Raschi of Traverse City; stepdaughters, Kelli Renee of Detroit, Kyla Rae and fiancé, Aaron Murrel, and Hannah and Mariah Wilson, all of Grand Rapids; granddaughter, Koralee; mother, Zurlene Folse of Belle Chasse, La.; brother, James D Hartley of Interlochen and his children, James and Nicole; sister, Deana and Marshall Tompkins and their children, Meagan and Mike Zych, Ian and Cary.
      She was preceded in death by her father, James Hartley.
      Friends may meet the family today, Dec. 4, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the VanStrien-Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield N.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49505. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at 3 p.m., at Oakhill Presbyterian Church, 1930 Leonard N.E., Grand Rapids, MI. The Rev. Jeff Carlson will officiate. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
