Obituaries

      DENNIS A. GALLOWAY, 79, of Cadillac, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Lakeview Lutheran Manor.
      Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home in Cadillac. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at 2 p.m., also at the funeral home.

      JOHN KOZLOWSKI, 77, of Gaylord, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004.
      Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, from 1 to 8 p.m., at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m., at the Diocese of Gaylord Pastoral Center in Gaylord.
      Arrangements are by the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord.

      MAX E. McQUEEN, 82, of Kalkaska, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Munson Medical Center.
      A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Arrangements are by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.

      THOMAS O. MERKLE, 70, of Helena Township, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
      Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Alden United Methodist Church, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
      Arrangements are by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

      GARY WATSON, 67, of Benzonia, passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2004.
      Visitation will be held today, Dec. 8, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.
      A full obituary will be in Thursday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
      The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah is in charge of arrangements.

      ANN ARBOR - Michael H. Laverty, 31, of Ann Arbor, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004.
      He was the son of Robert and Suzanne Laverty, and brother of Sarah Laverty.
      A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

      TRAVERSE CITY - David M. Killian, 39, of Traverse City, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004. David was born June 5, 1965, to David and Sharon (Abrams) Killian in San Mateo, Calif.
      He married Elizabeth Willette on Sept. 4, 1999. David and Bette met on Sept. 4, 1989. David knew instantly that he would spend the rest of his days with her and proposed that night. They moved to Traverse City in 1992, and he has worked in the area since then.
      David loved golf, baseball and the San Francisco 49ers. His friends will miss his sense of humor, his crazy stories and his inability to keep a straight face during poker games.
      He is survived by his wife; three children, Nicholas David Killian, Anna Marie Groesser and Timothy Allen (Rachel) Groesser; future granddaughter, Alanna Marie Groesser; parents, Sharon (Brian) Matthews and Rena Killian; sisters, Ann Marie (Bob) Caudle, Marie Killian, Danielle (Harry) Matthews-Seperas, Samantha (Ron) Rumfelt; brothers, Brian S. (Pam) Matthews, Michael (Jamie) Bingham, Scott (Annette) Bingham; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
      David was preceded in death by his father in 2003.
      A memorial service is being held for David today, Dec. 8, 2004, at 6:30 p.m., at the Cottage Cafe, with Pastor Joe Kelly officiating.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to his son, Nicholas David Killian.
      Arrangements were entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City.
