Obituaries


      MISTY CASEY, 19, died suddenly in Kalkaska County.
      A memorial gathering and celebration will take place on Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Fellowship Church, 2555 N. Garfield, Traverse City, MI 49686.
      Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
     
      EVE M. PEARCE, 89, of Manistee, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Gran Care AFC Home in Custer.
      The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at 1:30 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee.
      The family is being served by the Johnson Funeral Home in Manistee.
     
      JACK P. WILLIAMS, 91, of Williamsburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at home.
      Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     

      COPEMISH - Vernon Wayne Osborne, 78, of Copemish, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. He was born Dec. 8, 1926, in Hesperia, the son of Charles and Nancy (Blair) Osborne.
      Wayne retired in 1979 from Smeltzer's Orchard in Frankfort. He had spent 45 years in the Cleon Township Government holding various positions, most recently serving on the board of trustees.
      Wayne was a member of the Marilla Seniors Club and a lifetime member of the Northwest Michigan Engine and Thresher Club.
      In his spare time, Wayne enjoyed his horses and mules, hunting, fishing and watching old western movies. Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was always ready and willing to help others.
      On August 8, 1946, in Manistee, Wayne married Bertha Louise Valencourt, who survives him. He is also survived by five children, Harley Osborne of Copemish, Dorothy (Rich) Mead of Honor, Barbara (David) Knight of Benzonia, Robert (Debra) Osborne of Copemish and Larry Osborne of Copemish; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Russell (Gwen) Osborne of Owosso; and four nieces and nephews.
      Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth; and sister, Dorothy.
      Visitation will be held today, Dec. 23, 2004, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Pamona Bible Church in Copemish, with Pastor Brian Mikul officiating. Interment will be in the Cleon Township Cemetery in the spring.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Cleon Township Fire Department or to the Thompsonville Ambulance. Envelopes are available at the Terwilliger Funeral Home
     
      BENZONIA - Evelyn Ruth Stain, 92, of Benzonia, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Munson Hospice House. She was born Nov. 23, 1912, in Elberta, the daughter of Homer and Ethel (Ford) Bailey.
      Evelyn had been employed at the State Hospital in Traverse City from 1932 until her retirement in 1972.
      She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Frankfort, and she enjoyed tatting, reading Zane Grey books, working in her garden and spending time outdoors.
      Evelyn is survived by her son, Joseph (Bonnie) Stain Jr. of Benzonia; three grandchildren, Cindy Sanford of Benzonia, Joe Lynn (Sue Knapp) Stain of Beulah, Bill (Sue) Stain of Benzonia; seven great-grandchildren, Nathan Sanford, Travis Sanford, Jeanna Sanford, Carrie Thayer, Joey Stain, Kirk Stain and Ashley Stain; and two great-great-grandchildren, Sheali Thayer and Logan Sanford.
      On April 18, 1936, in Traverse City, Evelyn married Joseph Stain Sr., who preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Shane Stain and McKinzie Stain; and four sisters, Margaret, Mary, Martha and Lois.
      Funeral services will be conducted today, Dec. 23, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Deacon Rene Hoenscheid will officiate the services. Interment will be in the Benzonia Township Cemetery in the spring.
      Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice House. Envelopes are available at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home.
     
      WILLIAMSTON - Dennis "Skip" Kruse, born Aug. 30, 1947, in Detroit, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at the age of 57, after a courageous battle with leukemia.
      Skip graduated from the University of Michigan in 1967, where he was a member of the Glee Club and later, the Alumni Association.
      He had been employed by the Social Security Administration for 32 years and was currently serving as area director.
      His favorite pastime was spending time with his family.
      Surviving are his wife, Trish, whom he married on Oct. 27, 1978, in Redford; daughters, Debra (Brad) Polivka of Illinois, Keri (Sean) Moran of Oregon, and Allison Kruse and Katherine Kruse, both of Williamston; grandson, Tucker DeBolt, who lovingly knew him as "Paw Paw"; his parents, Stanley and Doris Kruse of Redford; brothers, Dan (Martha) Kruse of Arizona and Daniel (Caroline) Kruse of Colorado; brother-in-law, Frank (Kathy) Eigenberger of California; and numerous nieces and nephews. Skip is also survived by his "other family" of Social Security co-workers.
      Skip was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Ann Kruse.
      Funeral services will be held today, Dec. 23, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Williamston, 3185 N. Williamston Rd., Williamston, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Danny Cavin will officiate. Interment will follow in Summit Cemetery in Williamston.
