Obituaries

KINGSLEY - Maxine M. Revett, 68, of Kingsley, died on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at her daughter's home in Pembroke Pines, Fla. She was born on June 16, 1935, in Kingsley, the daughter of Clarence Clous and Anna Rhodes. She married William J. Revett on Nov. 7, 1953.
      Maxine was the former co-owner of Goal Post Pizza in Birch Run, and a former bus driver for Birch Run Schools.
      She was a member of St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Church and the Kingsley Flower Club.
      Throughout her life, Maxine enjoyed reading, traveling, flower gardening and spending time with her family.
      She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Michael) Willis of Wagoner, Okla., Terry (Chris) Helopoulos of Florida and Alice (Robert) Alsgaard of Gladwin; son, William L. Revett of Birch Run; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her infant son, John James; mother, Anna Clous; and brother, Eugene Clous.
      Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley, where a rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, with Father Michael Janowski as celebrant, at St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Church, with additional visitation one hour prior to Mass. Interment will be in St. Mary's of Hannah Cemetery.
      The family asks those wishing to give memorials to please remember the Kingsley Historical Society.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley.
     
      INTERLOCHEN - Anna L. 'Ann' Stinson, 86, of Interlochen, formerly of Traverse City, died on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Tendercare. She was born in Mt. Holly, N.J., on Feb. 11, 1918, the daughter of Henry H. and Pearla Mae (Nixon) Swain. Ann married John J. Stinson on Jan. 29, 1938, in Bordentown, N.J.
      Ann was a beautician and worked for East Field Beauty shop, along with being a homemaker.
      She was a member of the Golden Fellowship Senior Citizens group and attended the Grace Episcopal Church.
      Ann had a green thumb, and enjoyed growing house plants. She also enjoyed cross-stitch, crocheting, knitting and crafts. She truly loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
      Ann is survived by her husband of 66 years, John J. Stinson of Interlochen; two daughters, Judith Ann (Charles) Kitchel of Grand Rapids, and Patricia Lynn (James) Shooks of Central Lake; her son, Michael Henry (Gwen) Stinson of lnterlochen; nine grandchildren, Molly Shooks Hybl, Sarah Shooks, Emily Shooks Muser, Rebecca Shooks Graham, Joshua John Kitchel, Meggan Leah Stinson, Jakob Joseph Stinson, Katie May Stinson and Michael Mac Stinson; nine great-grandchildren, Hannah, Katie, Erin, Adam, Jessica, Matthew, Caleb, Haley and Brenden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
      Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Louis Grettenberger officiating. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorials may be directed to Green Lake Township Emergency Medical Services.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes, Traverse City.
     
      CRYSTALIA - Elizabeth (Bette) Jean Mueller, 84, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at her home in Crystalia, surrounded by her family, and with her loving husband of 62 years at her side. She was born on April 3, 1919, in Detroit, to Ruth (Chamberlain) and Irving Marker.
      Bette attended Hillsdale College and married Louis E. Mueller on July 25, 1941.
      She spent most of her adult life in Ann Arbor, where she was active in PEO. She retired to Crystal Lake in 1999.
      She is survived her husband; son, Eric (Amy) Mueller of Traverse City; daughters, Nancy Mueller of Frankfort and Kristin Mueller of Grand Rapids; five beautiful granddaughters, Jeni, Karen, Jill, Karri and Breanne; and a sister, Phyllis (Leo) Emming of California.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
      Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes is handling services.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Virginia Louise Larson, 87, of Traverse City, died on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Virginia was born on March 1, 1916, in Flint, the daughter of Linus and Lena Bilsky. She later married John T. Larson, who preceded her in death.
      Virginia lived in Flint and then Saginaw, where she and John restored a historical home, in which they lived and rented apartments. They later built a cottage on Old Mission Harbor in 1945, then bought the historical Dougherty House and adjoining property at Old Mission. Together, they worked in real estate sales and began restoration of the home and property.
      Surviving are her sons, Daniel J. Larson of Rutherford, N.J., and David T. (Patricia) Larson of Tierra Verde, Fla.; a grandson, Stephen Larson of Atlanta, Ga.; granddaughters, Lisa M. Larson of Cranston, R.I., and Jennifer (Mark) Waligora of Canton; a great-granddaughter, Amanda J. Waligora; and great-grandson, Nolan A. Waligora.
      Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Maxwell G. Bilsky; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica E. Waligora.
      Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Services will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, also at the funeral home. Following cremation, a committal service will held in the Mausoleum of Oakwood Cemetery, in Saginaw, on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association.
     
      LAKE CITY - Dr. Charles R. Ardis, 94, of Lake City, passed away at his home on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004. He was born on July 28, 1909, in Lake City, to William and Lottie (Reeder) Ardis. On Aug. 17, 1946, he married Virginia Hollingsworth in Frankfort.
      Dr. Ardis graduated from Michigan State University and was a member of the Lambda Chi fraternity. He received his doctorate of dentistry from Marquette University.
      In the United States Army, he trained in the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. He served throughout the European Theatre during WWII, and landed in Normandy. He was a medical officer when they opened the gates of Buchenwald.
      After his discharge from the military, Dr. Ardis established his dental practice in Cadillac, where he practiced dentistry for 53 years.
      He was on the Board of Directors for Chemical Bank, and was a founding director of the Old Kent Bank.
      He was noted as a philanthropist in the area, where he and his wife gifted the Missaukee District Library in 1999. During his lifetime, he contributed to numerous charities, and through his estate, will continue to do so.
      Surviving Dr. Ardis are his brother, William Ardis of Wellston; sister in-law, Bea Leonard of Lake City; two nieces, Marjorie Walker and Marcelline Woodson, both of Pennsylvania; and two nephews, Robert Ardis and Thomas Ardis, both of Muskegon.
      He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, on Aug. 24, 1994; two brothers, Lysle Ardis and Dorman Ardis; and two sisters, Dorothy Boggs and Charlotte Bruce.
      Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Young Funeral Home in Lake City. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Lake City, with the Rev. Nancy Tomlinson and the Rev. Randy Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Lake City Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Presbyterian Church in Lake City, the Missaukee District Library, or the University of Michigan Northern Lower Michigan Dental Scholarship Fund.
     
      INTERLOCHEN - Mikol John Babcock, 24, died on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, as a result of injuries sustained from being struck by an automobile. He was born on July 20, 1979, in Traverse City, to Eric Carl Babcock and Laurie Kay (Dobson) Babcock, who survive.
      Mikol was a graduate of Traverse City High School. He enjoyed hiking, walking, Hacky Sack, swimming, music, camping, fishing, skateboarding and traveling. He was an avid wrestling fan. He loved to spend time with friends, family and his devoted dog, Angel.
      Mikol was a loving son, brother and caring friend to so many people. He was the type of person that would give his last dollar to someone who needed it, whether he knew them or not. On occasion, Mikol would give his school lunch to homeless people he knew. If Mikol went without, that was okay; he made sure no one else did.
      Mikol is survived by his brother, Chadd E. Babcock; sister, Erin K. Babcock; nephew, Winston Dobson; stepmother, Julie K. Babcock; half sister, Kara Babcock; two stepsisters, Alisha Kay Keeler and Nicol Renee Keeler; special aunt and uncle, Jeff and Diane Hanna; and many other aunts and uncles.
      He was proceeded in death by his grandmothers, Gala M. Babcock and Carol J. Dobson; great-grandmother, Caroline Lautner; and his aunt, Caroline J. Fuller.
      Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Bruce Rose officiating. Burial will take place in the spring.
      The family has asked that memorial contributions be directed to a memorial fund to be established in Mikol's name, c/o Laurie K. Babcock, 11710 US 31, Interlochen, MI 49643.
     
      ANGELA GRACE LOVELL, 77, of Bear Lake, died on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva, with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, also at the funeral home.
      The Terwilliger Funeral Home, in Kaleva, is in charge of arrangements.
     
      DONALD M. 'DONNIE' PATTERSON, 81, of Leland, died on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at his home.
      Cremation has taken place, and a memorial internment will be held at a later date.
      A full obituary will appear in Monday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are being handled by Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay.
