Obituaries

      EMMA 'SUE' JOHNSON, 72, of Traverse City, passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      A full obituary, including service times, will appear in a later edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      INTERLOCHEN - Ray Henry, 88, of Interlochen, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City, after suffering a stroke. He was born on June 19, 1915, in Owosso, to John and Katie (Schnorr) Henry.
      He lived in the Flint area until 1931, when the family moved to Scottsbluff, Neb. There, in 1935, he became a licensed barber.
      In 1941, he moved back to Michigan and was drafted for the duration of WWII. He served in the Army Air Corps, 132nd ATU, at Nellis Air Base, Nev., until Dec. of 1945.
      In 1946, he met Arlene Pero; they were married on May 30, 1947. He worked for General Motors for 25 years, retiring in 1977. After 23 years in Flushing, Ray and Arlene moved to Interlochen in 1978, where Arlene still resides.
      Ray was active in the American Legion; he served as past Commander of the Flushing Post. He was also a past member of Cross Congregational Church in Flint, a 10-year member of the Green Lake Township Planning Commission, past president of the Interlochen Golden Fellowship, a past trustee and member of Honor Congregational Church, a member of the Read Osborn American Legion Post #531 in Copemish, and a member of the Green Lake Betsie River Association.
      He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Arlene; four children, Janyce (Albert) Selesky of Coleman, Pamela (Harvey) Workman of Flushing, Robert (Deborah) Henry of Grand Blanc, and Roger (Cheryl) Henry of Montrose; seven grandchildren, Bradley Selesky, Katherine Selesky, Nichole Smith, Sarah Smith, Joshua Smith, Jonathan Henry and Rachel Henry; and several nieces and nephews.
      Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Victor of Flint, and John of Denver, Colo., and their spouses; and a sister, Ella of Scottsbluff, Neb., and her spouse.
      Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, also at the funeral home, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Thomas Maher, from the Honor Congregational Church, will officiate. A chapel service will be held at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004.
      Memorial contributions, in honor of Ray, may be made to the Honor Congregational Church, Grand Traverse Pavilions or Munson Hospice.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
