February 23, 2004ObituariesElsie M. PriesterDied February 21, 2004 GRAND LEDGE - Elsie M. Priester, 101, of Grand Ledge, formerly of Traverse City, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, in Okemos. Elsie retired from Norris Elementary school, where she taught for 46 years. She was a member of Long Lake Friends Church and enjoyed gardening and quilting. Surviving Elsie are three nephews, Dale (Anita) Priester of Manistee, John (Betty) Priester of Bayboro, N.C., and Victor (Faith) Priester of Grand Ledge; and a sister-in-law, Flora Priester of Grand Ledge. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elisabeth (Hoppel) Priester; one sister; and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Long Lake Friends Church, 4172 Church Road, Traverse City, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Keith Huffman will officiate. Interment will be at Keswick Cemetery in Bingham Township, in Leelanau County. For those desiring, memorial contributions made to Long Lake Friends Church will be greatly appreciated. The family is being served by the Peter & Murray Funeral Home in Grand Ledge. Helen Hostman Died February 22, 2004 GAYLORD - Helen Hostman, 93, of Gaylord, formerly of Fife Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004. She was born in Detroit on July 29, 1910, the daughter of Stanley and Anastasia (Blaszkewicz) Potrzepka. Helen was a homemaker and, with her husband, Frank, formerly owned the General Store and Sugar Bowl Restaurant in Fife Lake. She was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Fife Lake and was a former member of the Fife Lake Rebekah's Lodge. She loved music, singing and the outdoors, and she and her husband enjoyed taking pictures of wildflowers in the Jordan Valley. Helen is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Gary) Fort of Kokomo, Ind.; son, David (Elizabeth) Hostman of Gaylord; granddaughters, Elizabeth (Mark) Yager and Stacey (Scott) McCauley; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Wanda Steward of California; and her brother, Stanley Patrick of Fife Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank J. Hostman; granddaughter, Shannon Fort; and brother, Ben Potrzepka. No formal services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734. Arrangements have been made by the Nelson Funeral Home, Gaylord. MICHAEL JOHN STELTER, formerly of Kingsley, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, following a courageous battle with cancer. A wake will be held this evening, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. at Best Funeral Home, Avondale, Ariz. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. at St. Aquintas Church in Avondale, Ariz. JENNIE C. MAKI, 99, of Bear Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at Tendercare of Ludington. Visitation will take place this evening, Feb. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Pollatz officiating. Burial will be in Bear Lake Township Cemetery. ALBERT JOSEPH CLARK, 89, of Eastlake, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Cremation has taken place.
