Obituaries

      BARBARA J. BLEWETT, 71, of Frankfort, died on Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at The Maples in Frankfort.
      A gathering for friends and family will be held on Monday, March 1, 2004, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes.
      Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Mich.
     
      NOLEN L. COOPER, 82, of Traverse City, died on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004.
      Visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, where a Masonic service will take place at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2004, also at the funeral home.
      A full obituary will appear in a later edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are being handled by Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      IRENE COX, 97, formerly of Traverse City, died on Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, in Yuba City, Calif.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      WALTER P. GRABDA, 74, of Kalkaska, died on Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
      Oak Grove Cremation Center is serving the family.
     
      JACK M. HURLBUT, 80, of Traverse City, died on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      No services are planned at this time.

      ROBERT WOODRUFF, 52, of Kalkaska, died on Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, in Traverse City.
      Visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 1, 2004, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
      Arrangements are being handled by Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Robert C. Proctor, 77, of Traverse City, died on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Bob was born on Sept. 5, 1926, in Detroit, and moved to the Traverse City area in January of 1974.
      Before his retirement, Bob was employed as an accountant at the Paint Spot and Builders Exchange of N. W. Michigan. He had also worked for the Leelanau Fruit Company in Suttons Bay.
      Bob served with the U. S. Army Infantry during WWII on Saipan, and also with the 176th Coast Artillery Battalion on Iwo Jima.
      He was a life member of Cherryland VFW Post 2780 and a 29-year member of The Elks Lodge 323.
      Bob will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends as a kind and considerate gentleman with a high sense of integrity and a strong work ethic.
      He is survived by his children, Charles, Anita and Janice; six grandchildren; a brother, John; and his loving companion, Beverly Proctor.
      He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna (Feldpausch), on June 19, 1985; his parents, Omar and Blanche (McNair) Proctor; and his brother, Don.
      Visitation will take place on Monday, March 1, 2004, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2004, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.

      FIFE LAKE - John R. Glasgow, 93, of Fife Lake, died on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Tendercare of Traverse City. John was born in Fuller, Kan., the son of John Joseph and Jessie Mae (Bernhardt) Glasgow. He married the former Reba Faye McCann in Carthage, Mo., on Jan. 23, 1934.
      John retired from the C.M. Hall Lamp Company in Detroit, after 34 years of service. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII, and received the purple heart.
      He was a member of the DAV, and enjoyed golf.
      John loved his family and grandchildren.
      He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Reba F. Glasgow of Fife Lake; his son, Randy J. (Pamela K.) Glasgow of Fife Lake; grandchildren, Tracey L. (Jeremy) Church of Grand Rapids, and Randy R. (Dawn) Glasgow of Fife Lake; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Church, Chelsea Glasgow, Shayne Glasgow and Liam Glasgow; and his sister, Scretia Groesch.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sister, Agnes Schultz.
      Visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 1, 2004, also at the funeral home, with Rev. Albin Gietzen officiating. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Full Military Honors will be under the auspices of Cherryland Post #2780. Burial will take place in the spring, in Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley.
      Memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Hendrika 'Rika' Mom, 89, of Glen Eagle Retirement Community, was called home on Friday, Feb. 27, 2004. A resident of Traverse City, formerly of St. Clair Shores, she was born on Feb. 22, 1915, in Nijmegen, Netherlands, the daughter of Carel and Jacomina (Schokkenkamp) Gerhardus. She married Anthonius Bartholomeus Hendrikus Mom on Aug. 17, 1939, in Nijmegen, Netherlands.
      Hendrika was an artist and worked for Walbys Decorating Center in East Point, from which she retired after 18 years of service.
      She enjoyed painting, music, bicycling, swimming, traveling (especially in Europe), calligraphy, and knitting. She was always a student of life, and learned to use the computer and internet for instant messages. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
      She is survived by three daughters, Eve Howe of Suttons Bay, Ellen (Jerry) Chouinard of Comstock Park, and Riens (Randall) Thompson of Harrison Township; her former son-in-law, Jon A. Howe; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her special friends, Clim Pollock and Kyle Hamilton.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Johanna Carolina Mom; and her sister Johanna 'Annie' Bours.
      A memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2004, at the Glen Eagle Retirement Community, with Rev. Becky A. Chamberlain officiating. Burial will take place in Cadillac Gardens.
      In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Hendrika's name, to the ALS Association (for Lou Gehrig's Disease), Hoenselaar Clinic, 2799 West Grand Blvd., Detroit, MI 48202.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes of Traverse City.
     
      HOMOSASSA, Fla. - Dorothy B. Straubel, 87, of Homosassa, Fla., died on February 11, 2004, in Ocala, Fla. Born in Lansing, Dorothy moved to Florida in 1981, from Hampton, N.H.
      She was a teacher for the Webster Groves School in Missouri, and a graduate of Michigan State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education.
      She was an Episcolpalian.
      Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Dudley; two sons, Robert of Salisbury, Mass., and John of Homosassa, Fla.; a daughter, Lucy Berry of Sheboygan, Wisc.; a sister, Katherine Zabriskie of Williamsburg; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
      Arrangements were handled by Wilder Funeral Home in Homosasa Springs, Fla.
