ELLEN EVANS DAWKINS, 97, of Leland, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.
      Cremation will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
      The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Oak Grove Cremation Center of Manistee.
     
      JEAN D. EVANS, 91, of Beulah, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at her home.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes.
     
      JAMES C. KUKLA, 60, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2004, at his home.
      A graveside service will be held under the auspices of the Cherryland VFW Post on Saturday, June 26, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      EVERTT D. LARCOM, 76, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Munson Medical Center.
      Visitation will be on Monday, June 21, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., from the Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley.
      A complete obituary will be in tomorrow's edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley.
     
      MARY ELLEN PALMER, 82, of Frankfort, died Thursday morning, June 17, 2004, at The Maples.
      Private family services are being held.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes.
     
      ARCHBISHOP TERRANCE JAMES PUFFER, 62, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Traverse City, died June 14, 2004, in Tampa, Fla.
      A full obituary will appear at a later time.
      Arrangements are handled by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
     
      A memorial service will be held for MARY YOUNG at 2 p.m. June 25, 2004, at the Elks Lodge, 625 Bay St., Traverse City.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Arthritis Foundation, 17117 West Nine Mile, Suite 950, Southfield, MI 48075.
     
      ANN ARBOR - Leona Rita Scherrer, died June 19, 2004, in South Lyon. Born July 14, 1916, in Detroit, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lottie (Mociejewski) Stack.
      Lee was an independent thinking woman who took great pride in her sons and grandchildren. Lee and the late Bernie celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Nov. of 2001. They enjoyed a full and happy retirement.
      She was the beloved wife of Bernie, who preceded her in death in Aug. of 2002.
      Lee was the loving mother of Dave (Carroll), Jim (Deb), and Rick (Joni); grandmother of Julie (Merrick), Brian, Megan, A.J., Lauren, Nathan, Rhonda and Rochelle; and five great-grandchildren.
      A private memorial service will be held.
      Contributions, in memory of Lee, may be made to the Child & Family Services of Northwestern Michigan, 3785 Veterans Drive, Traverse City, MI 49684.

      ACME - Betty Wibby of Acme, born March 15, 1924, in Detroit, passed away on June 18, 2004, at Munson Hospice House, Traverse City.
      Betty was the loving wife since September 11, 1948, of Jim who survives. She was the proud mother of Jim (Sandy) of Howell, Mich. and Chuck (Phyllis) of Boulder, Colo. She was also the very proud grandmother of Katie of Interlochen, Brian (Beth) of Marquette, Kyle of Washington, D.C. and Ryan of Boulder, Colo.
      While first and foremost a family person she did have a number of other interests. She was a talented cook and hostess, an excellent seamstress, an expert in English smocking, a machine knitter, knowledgeable of Japanese art, a past president of Mizuwmi Chapter #165, Ikebana International and a big Red Wings fan.
      The lives of those who knew her have been enriched by her friendship.
      Her parents and her sister, Dona Hall of California, preceded Betty in death.
      Cremation has taken place. A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Bernie Filbert will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 26 at the Chapel of the Covell Funeral Home, Traverse City. The family will be present to greet friends starting at 1 p.m.
      In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial tributes be made to Munson Hospice House, 1105 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Katherine J. (Peterson) Lewis, 80, a former biology and English teacher, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Born Oct. 14, 1923, in Grayling, she was the daughter of Clyde A. and Esther K. (Peterson) Peterson.
      Katherine grew up in Grayling and graduated from Grayling High School in 1941. She continued her education at Central Michigan University and Michigan State University, where she received her B.S. degree in biology and her teaching certificate in 1945. Katherine taught high school biology in Mt. Morris from 1945 to 1953. Several of her former students became lifelong friends.
      Katherine married Robert J. Lewis on Nov. 17, 1951, and in 1953, they moved to the Detroit area where she became a full-time homemaker. In 1987, they moved to their Traverse City home on Grand Traverse Bay.
      Katherine was an avid writer and painter who loved flowers, birds, animals, people, and life in general. She was a lifelong contributor to various animal and wildlife societies.
      A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church on Friday, June 25. The Rev. Dr. Homer Nye will officiate the service. Inurnment will be in Arcacia Park Cemetery in Birmingham.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Presbyterian Church.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
