BUDNIK, 90, of Manistee, died Thursday evening, March 11, 2004, at Manistee County Medical Care Facility.Visitation will be held today, March 14, 2004, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, with evening prayers at 8 p.m. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 15, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Herbert Funeral Home, P.C., in Manistee. MILFORD C. MACKEY, 78, died on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 15, 2004, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. THOMPSON, 63, of Rapid City, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at home. A funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Calvary Baptist Church in Kalkaska, where visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. LEWIS CLAYTON WISER, 79, of Grawn, formerly of St. Johns, died on Friday, March 12, 2004, at home. A full obituary will appear in Monday's edition of the Record-Eagle. The family is being served by Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. TRAVERSE CITY - Olga M. Gulde, 84, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at Birchwood Nursing Home in Traverse City. Olga was born on June 12, 1919, in Windsor, Ontario, the daughter of Alex and Mary Karmyzan. She was raised in Windsor, moving to Detroit when she was 19. Olga spent the next 12 years of her life in the Detroit area, where she met and married her husband, Walter Gulde; he preceded her in death. Olga was a registered nurse and devoted her life to taking care of others. She was a member of St. Francis Parish. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing bridge, taking nature photos, reading, and listening to classical music. Olga is survived by her children, Carol (Edward) Kravitz of Milford, Conn., Patricia Gulde Young of Cleveland, Ohio, and Robert Gulde of Traverse City; sister, Stella Panchuk of Windsor, Ontario; grandchildren, Noah Kravitz, Nathan Young, and Michael, Valerie, Christopher and Larissa Gulde. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 15, 2004, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. The Rev. Fr. Patrick Maher will celebrate the mass. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. TRAVERSE CITY - Alice F. Wiedman, 93, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at Southridge Assisted Living in Traverse City. Born on July 1, 1910, in Kalkaska County, she was the daughter of Orange and L. Faith (Canniff) Grove. On July 5, 1929, she married Leslie 'Bunn' Anderson, who preceded her in death on September 3, 1960. Alice was foremost a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She took great pleasure in gardening, board games and photography. She especially enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Ralph, to visit beautiful gardens in the southern states. Many will remember her wonderful sense of humor. Surviving are her sons, Leslie (Cheryl) Anderson Jr. of East Lansing and Bellaire, Michael (Charlotte) Anderson of Mancelona, and Calvin Anderson of Lansing; daughters, Loretta Marvin of Lansing, Carol (Stuart) Merillat of Elk Rapids, Linda Ellsworth of Merritt Island, Fla., and Valerie West of Traverse City; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, 'Bunn,' Alice was preceded in death by husbands, Floyd Prebble in 1984, and Ralph Wiedman in 1991; brothers, Isaac and Ward Grove; and sisters, Olive Kennison, Grace Zimmerman, Clarice Strang, and Mildred Zimmer. Cremation has taken place. A summer celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. Interment will take place at Helena Township Cemetery in Alden. Memorials may be directed to Hospice or to a charity of your choice. Hautala, 80, of Traverse City, died on Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Bortz Health Care in Traverse City. Ruth was born on April 30,1923, in Mt. Rose, the daughter of Warren and Blanche (McAfee) VanVaIkenburg. On Sept. 6,1940, in Mt. Morris, she married Earnest Hautala, who preceded her in death in 2002. Ruth was a nurse's aid and a homemaker. She was a member of the Elk Rapids Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Mt. Morris. She was very active at Bortz Health Care and joined all the activities there. She dearly loved the Lord, her family and her grandchildren. Surviving Ruth are two daughters, Karen (Marv) Sieffert of Traverse City, and Lori (Peter) Barclay of Flint; four sons, Ernest (Claudia) Hautala of Silverwood, Joel (Caryl) Hautala of Elk Rapids, Daniel (Cindy) Hautala of Edgewater, Fla., and Steven (Linda) Hautala of Flushing; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Jean (Ken) Arneson of Oscoda; and numerous nieces and nephews. "She was the best mother and grandmother in the world." Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Hautala in 2002; and her brother, James VanValkenburg. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, from the Elk Rapids Baptist Church, with Rev. Gary Gladfelter officiating. Burial will take place in the spring, in Evergreen Cemetery. The Hautala family would like to thank the staff of Bortz Health Care for the superior care given to their mother, and also to the many friends for their love and support during her stay at Bortz. KALEVA - Delores Regina Makinen, 66, of Kaleva, passed away on March 10, 2004, in Tucson, Ariz., after a relatively short, but very painful, battle with lung cancer. She was born on April 26, 1937, in Detroit, the daughter of Walter and Helen (Pitera) Yonish, who were members of coal mining families from the Windber, Penn., area. Delores grew up in Detroit, and graduated from MacKenzie High School in 1955. On June 16, 1962, she married John P. Makinen, who survives. They had three sons, John Walter, Timothy Evert and Michael Andrew. She enjoyed raising her sons and attending their school, sports and music functions. Delores was a rabid hockey Mom for almost a decade. After the boys were grown, she worked as a bookkeeper/accountant and earned an associate's degree in accounting from Oakland County Community College. Prior to her mother's death, she spent a year and a half giving full-time care to her mother. In 1995, Delores and John retired to Kaleva. Her number one enjoyment was her grandchildren. She had a great love and knowledge of the movies, and achieved a large measure of satisfaction from playing the piano with the women of the church at various senior citizen facilities. She enjoyed trips to Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York to visit relatives. Every winter, she looked forward to going to her "little tin box" at Rincon Country RV Park in Tucson, where she participated in craft groups and the many other activities offered by the park. In addition to her husband and three sons, Delores is survived by her daughters-in-law, Ann and Kathy; her seven grandchildren, Brittney, Cassandra, Emilie, Rose, Eric, Lyndsey and Nick; her sister, Phyllis DiPonio; her brother, Gerry (Sharon) Yonish; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins from the large Yonish and Pitera families. Visitation will be held today, March 14, 2004, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 15, 2004, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaleva, with Reverend Wayne Buskirk officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the Terwilliger Funeral Home. TRAVERSE CITY - Michelle H. Alexander, 27, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, March 10, 2004. Michelle was born on Jan. 19, 1978, in Detroit. When she was nine years old, her family moved to Traverse City. Michelle graduated from Traverse City Central High School. She had worked at Peppers restaurant and Brady's, and took great pleasure in getting everybody exactly what they wanted and needed. Most recently, she was working with her parents in their courier business. Michelle was a very loving, patient, kind and sentimental young lady who always wanted people to be happy. She loved to write stories and poems, and enjoyed arts and crafts; she was quite a good artist. Her dog, Jake, gave her lots of enjoyment, and her favorite color was red. Surviving Michelle are her parents, Renee and Mike Alexander of Traverse City; her daughter that she loved so much, April Johnson, who was adopted by the loving family of Dave and Michelle Johnson of Houghton Lake; two sisters, Nicole (Edward) Huffman and Gabrielle Alexander, both of Traverse City; her grandmothers, Audrey Lacaille of Traverse City, and Rosemary Alexander of Bear Lake; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Diamond Alexander and Rudolph Lacaille. Visitation was held on Saturday at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2004, at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michelle H. Alexander Memorial Fund. NORTHPORT - Jennifer Keck, 49, of Northport, died on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at her home. She was born on Dec. 27, 1954, in Detroit, the daughter of Henry and Nancy (Burke) Bruggeman. On Aug. 11, 1984, she married Robert Clayton Keck, who survives her. Jennifer worked as a home health aide. She enjoyed writing and wrote many children's stories. In addition to her husband, Jennifer is survived by a son, Dennis Keck of Naples, Fla.; her parents; brother, Jeffery H. (Kathleen) Bruggeman; and three sisters, Martha (Hugh) Cook, Amy Bruggeman, and Emily (Duane) Kalenber. A family memorial service will be held next summer. Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice. Arrangements are being handled by Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay.
