Obituaries

      ROBERT GARY BIEKER, 62, of Cedar, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Grace Episcopal Church.
      A complete obituary will appear in Tuesday's Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.

      EDWARD LOUIS STRANG, 88, of Cedar, died Saturday evening, May 15, 2004, at Maple Valley Nursing Home.

      Nichole Keller
      Died May 12, 2004
      CROSS VILLAGE - Our dear Nichole, 28, of Cross Village, unexpectedly went to be with her Lord on May 12, 2004.
      Nichole was born in Petoskey on Oct. 15, 1975, to James and Jeri (Edge) Keller of Cross Village.
      Nichole attended Cross Village school and graduated from Pellston High School in 1994. She attended Petoskey Beauty Academy and was employed at Cross Village General Store for many years.
      Nicky loved to read, was very close to her family and enjoyed a unique and close relationship with her mother. She enjoyed spending time with her niece, Emily, and was devoted to her dear Taffy.
      Nicky was a cheerful and sweet daughter, sister and friend. She was filled with happiness and fun. She was a bright presence in our lives. Nicky will be sorely missed by all her family, friends, and those who knew her. Our hearts will always keep her. She will ever be remembered for her laughter, her love of life, and her smile.
      Nichole is survived by her parents, James and Jeri Keller of Cross Village; her brother, Joshua Keller of Cross Village; her niece, Emily Keller of Cheboygan; her beloved dog, Taffy; maternal grandparents, David and Joyce Edge of Traverse City; paternal grandmother, Audrey S. Keller of Cross Village; her uncles, including Dave (Shelly), Steve (Cindy) and Tim Edge, all of Traverse City, and John (Norma) Keller, Steve (Missy) Keller, Rob (Amanda) Keller of Cross Village; her aunts, Cindy Rokos of Traverse City, Debbie (Jay) Gosselin of South Bend, Ind., Marianne (James) Postma of Brandon, Fla., Kathy (Steve) Hibbs of Lansing, Patricia (Andrew) Skoczylas of Detroit, Martha (Leroy) Alvarez of Traverse City, Sandy (Richard) Napont of Charlevoix, Jo Ellen Keller Barber and Diane Keller, both of Cross Village, and Margaret (Brian) Byard of Bliss; as well as many cousins, great-uncle and great-aunts.
      She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, William "Joe" Keller. Grandpa Joe received his "Knick-a-Bocker" into his loving arms.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Deacon Joseph Nelson and Pastor David Forrester of Bliss Missionary Church officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
      In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family will be appreciated.
      The family was served by the Schiller Funeral Home of Harbor Springs.

      Karen L. Kelly, Ph.D.
      Died May 10, 2004
      LINCOLN, Neb. - Dr. Karen L. Kelly, 55, of Lincoln, Neb., passed away on Monday, May 10, 2004. Born on July 23, 1948, in Battle Creek, to Vaughn and Dorothy Kelly, she graduated from Lakeview High School in 1966.
      In 1971, she received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Michigan State University. She pursued her love of psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she received a doctorate of clinical psychology in 1977. She completed a Doctoral Internship at University of Colorado-Denver Medical Center.
      Her post-doctoral contributions included Lincoln Regional Center from 1978 to 1980, and University of Nebraska Student Health Center from 1980 to 1992, four years of which she served as clinical director. Dr. Kelly briefly maintained a private practice of psychology in Traverse City, and another in Lincoln, from 1978 until 2003.
      Dr. Kelly will be remembered for her professional contributions as a board member for Planned Parenthood of Nebraska, and for the many lives she touched through her strong advocacy in women's issues. Karen was a gifted psychotherapist, a trusted colleague, a valued role model and mentor to many, and a cherished friend. She loved jazz, fast cars, nature and beaches. She will return to rest in her beloved home, northern Michigan.
      She is survived by her parents, Vaughn and Dorothy Kelly of Traverse City; Sylvia Kelly of Maumae, Ohio; nieces, Jody Sayer and Lisa Bean; nephew, Shawn Bean; and professional family and business partners, Dr. Thomas Brennan, Ph.D., Dr. Helen Montoya, Ph.D., Dr. DeAnn Printz, Ph.D., Dr. Michael Rodgerson, Ph.D., and her beloved friend and associate, Dr. Jacqueline Rhodes, Ph.D., all of the Psychology Center.
      A private family service will be held in Traverse City. An open house memorial, in honor of Dr. Kelly, will take place from 7:30 to 8 p.m. on June 3, 2004, at Roper and Sons, 4300 "O" Street, in Lincoln, for friends and professional contacts.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood, 2246 "O" Street, Lincoln, NE 68510, or to Friendship Home, P. O. Box 30268, Lincoln, NE 68503.
