Worm, 95, of Acme, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at the Orchard Creek Skilled Care Center. She was born June 4, 1909, in Traverse City, and was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Gallagher. Blanche was raised on the family farm on North Long Lake Road and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1927. In 1933, she married Steven Worm, and they moved to the Worm family farm in Garfield Township, where their three children Jim, Patricia and John were born. In 1946, Steve was killed in a tractor accident on the farm, and Blanche moved the family briefly into Traverse City and then to Acme Township, where she resided for the next 54 years. Throughout her life, Blanche was an avid reader, which drew her to Milliken's books and stationery department, where she worked for over 20 years. She was a devoted follower of local and national politics, reading several newspapers a day and several weekly magazines. Not much interested in sitcoms, Blanche was an early and regular viewer of CNN and CSPAN. She was also a successful gardener with a special love of flowers. She was a member of the Lone Tree Junior Club, St. Francis Catholic Church and a charter member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Acme. Those who knew her enjoyed her dry sense of humor and her wry wit. Her motto in times of adversity was, "That's life," and rather than dwelling on what life dealt her, she simply accepted it. This attitude was her greatest legacy to her family.
