      ROBERT JOHN 'BOB' BEAGLE, 71, of Traverse City, died Sunday evening, Nov. 14, 2004, at Munson Medical Center.
      Visitation will take place Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
      A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City.
      A complete obituary will appear in the Wednesday edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
     
      LINDA LEE BENOIT, 62, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at her Kalkaska home.
      Visitation will take place this evening, Nov. 16, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
     
      JAMES W. BISHOP, 70, of Lake Ann, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at his home.
      Cremation has taken place.
      A full obituary will be in the Wednesday edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle.

      LLOYD J. GRAHAM, 83, of Kalkaska, died at his home Monday, Nov. 15, 2004.
      Visitation will take place this evening, Nov. 16, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home in Walled Lake.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Hills Memorial Garden in Novi.
      Local arrangements were handled by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.
     
      FRANCES E. HAWLEY, of Glen Arbor, passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at her residence.
      Arrangements are pending with the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.
     
      JOSEPHINE MacQUE, 74, of Grayling, died at her home Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004.
      Visitation will take place today, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Sorenson Funeral Home in Grayling, with a wake service at 6 p.m.
      A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grayling. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
      Arrangements are being handled by Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, Grayling.
     
      BRUCE E. NEWMAN, 70, died at his home in Kalkaska Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004.
      A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska, where visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Garfield Township Cemetery.
      Memorial services for CURTIS L. SNIDER, 84, of Traverse City, who died Oct. 31, 2004, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Leukemia Foundation of Michigan, 29777 Telegraph Rd., Suite 1651, Southfield, MI 48034.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Dwight Ellery "Al" Birdsey, 84, of Traverse City, died Saturday evening, Nov. 13, 2004, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      He was born in Flint on Feb. 8, 1920, the son of Fred Louis and Bernice (Warn) Birdsey. On Jan. 10, 1940, he married the former Helen Stratton in Traverse City.
      Al was a retired sales manager for U.S. Tobacco Co. Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Helen, returned to his hometown of Traverse City, where they enjoyed ballroom and western dancing.
      Al honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Cherryland VFW Post #2780 and the Eagles Club #383.
      He is survived by his wife, Helen Birdsey of Traverse City; two sons, Jon (Jo) Birdsey of West Newton, Mass., and Tom (Karen) Birdsey of Delmar, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Susan, Jon, Thomas, Scott, Ryan, David and Caitlin; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Nina; and a sister, Dorothy Manning of Empire.
      He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roland Birdsey.
      The Birdsey family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
      Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      In remembrance of Al, memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
      The family wishes to extend a note of gratitude to the staff of the Grand Traverse Pavilions Dogwood Unit for the wonderful care given to Al.
      The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Ralph W. Bohrer, 87, of Traverse City, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Orchard Creek Skilled Nursing Center.
      Ralph was born on the family farm on April 17, 1917, in Traverse City, to Otto and Urina (Brimley) Bohrer.
      Ralph attended East Bay Calvary Church, First Baptist and Bible Baptist Church. He was also a past president of the Future Farmers of America.
      During World War II, Ralph served in the U.S. Army with the rank of Master Sergeant. He served most of his time in France as a maintenance carpenter.
      Ralph was a planner and very organized. Everything was thoroughly thought out, including family trips, which he always made educational. His greatest pleasures in life were working outside and putting his carpentry skills to work. He also loved his tractor and moving dirt with it. Ralph built his own homes and loved to putter in his carpentry shop. He often made things for gifts instead of going out and buying them.
      For many years he helped build floats for the Cherry Festival parades with his children when they attended Cherry Knoll School. He loved to do activities will his children at school and do projects for the school. He was also a past school board member of Cherry Knoll school and was a woodworking leader with 4-H.
      Ralph was very respected and smart, and had lots of common sense. He taught his family to care for others and to give back to their community.
      Surviving are four children, Susan (Robert) Crandall of Traverse City, Dr. Raymond (Stephanie) Bohrer of Traverse City, Bonnie (Ted) Peltier of Alberta, Ronald (JoAnn) Bohrer of Traverse City; two sisters, Maxine (Eugene) Pelizzari and Leola Yankee both of Traverse City; a step-daughter Karen (Ed) Prontek of Portage; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
      He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, the former Rose Blazek; and his second wife, the former Ruth Hickey; a sister, Gwendolyn Strait; a brother, Albert Bohrer; two infant granddaughters; and a step-son, James Hickey.
      Visitation will take place today, Nov. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas Mansfield officiating.
      Memorials may be directed to Munson Hospital Emergency Department Building Fund.
     
      ALTAMONT, N.Y. - Professor Patricia Stocking Brown, 62, of Altamont, N.Y., died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at her home after a long battle with breast cancer.
      Born in Cadillac, she was the daughter of the late Pierce and Eleanore (Lee) Stocking of Glen Arbor.
      Pat graduated from Glen Lake High School in 1960, and subsequently received a bachelor's degree in 1963, a master's degree in 1966, and a Ph.D. in Zoology in 1968 from the University of Michigan. She was appointed Assistant Professor of Biology at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y., in 1969, and rose in rank to Full Professor in 1980. She was a Department Chair from 1984-86 and 1988-90, and received the college's Excellence in Teaching Award in 1991.
      Pat taught courses in biology, endocrinology, and the history of women in science. She was a recipient of research grants from the American Cancer Society, the National Science Foundation, the Mellon-Wellesley Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. During sabbaticals, she was appointed Visiting Research Professor at the University of California in Berkeley (1980) and the University of Bath, England (1987). She was a member of the American Society of Zoologists, the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, the Endocrine Society and the Association of Women in Science.
      After being diagnosed with primary breast cancer in 1993, Pat became an activist, developing and teaching a college course on breast cancer, participating in the National Breast Cancer Coalition's Project Lead, and co-founding the Capital Region Action Against Breast Cancer (CRAAB) in 1997.
      Pat was instrumental in organizing a statewide network of breast cancer activists in New York, which annually sponsors the New York State Advocacy Day on Breast Cancer. She was asked to serve as an advocate-reviewer for cancer research grants given by the State of California and the Department of Defense, and was appointed to the New York State Health Science Research Board by New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver in 1997.
      Professor Brown is survived by her husband of 39 years, Stephen C. Brown; her children, Eric R. Brown of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Teresa (Brown) Coppola of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her sisters, Ann Lee (Stocking) Heuschele of Bloomington, Minn., Kathleen Joanne Stocking of Lake Leelanau, Barbara Jean (Stocking) Sawade of Havelock, Ontario, Canada, and Susan Margaret Stocking-Brooks of Seattle; and her nieces and nephews, Jessie, Lilah, Gaia, Jared, Joel, Kyla, Olloriak, Laska, Brendyn and Jennica.
      Friends may call at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont this evening, Nov. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m.
      Services will be private; interment will be in Michigan.
      A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Siena College Chapel.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Jacqueline Ann "Jackie" Pohlman, 68, of Traverse City, died Saturday morning, Nov. 13, 2004, at Munson Medical Center.
      Born in Saginaw on Nov. 14, 1935, she was the daughter of Anthony and Eleanor (Schleich) Fogus. On April 19, 1958, she married William D. Pohlman in Saginaw.
      Jackie attended St. Andrews School in Saginaw, graduating in 1953. In 1956, she graduated with honors from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Saginaw. She also attended Central Michigan University.
      In the late 1950s through 1965, she worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw as a surgical nurse and as an emergency room nurse. In 1965, she moved from Saginaw to Traverse City, where she worked at the Milliken Medical Building for Dr. John Milliken until 1970. She also worked in Dr. Tom Bannow's office from 1970, retiring in 1987. Her peers considered her an extremely competent and compassionate nurse.
      Jackie enjoyed fishing for steelhead at the mouth of the Boardman River, looking for agates on the shores of Lake Superior, and making pine-needle baskets. She was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed watching the NCAA basketball tournaments and following Traverse City St. Francis Gladiators.
      She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be truly missed.
      Jackie is survived by her husband, William D. Pohlman of Traverse City; two sons, William J. (Barbara) Pohlman of Manistique and Michael D. (Susan) Pohlman of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren, Natalie and Issac Pohlman; a sister, Valerie (Jim) Doman of Traverse City; a brother, James (Sandy) Fogus of Bay City and Naples, Fla.; an aunt, Ann Fogus of Saginaw; and many nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her parents.
      Visitation will take place today, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
      A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mapleton, with The Rev. Fr. Edwin Thome serving as celebrant.
      Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice or to the American Diabetes Association.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - David John "D.J." Schichtel Jr., 18, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004. He was born in Traverse City on Aug. 27, 1986.
      D.J. loved biking, video games, SpongeBob, his HotWheels car collection, and music. He enjoyed bowling and joking with his family. He loved to eat peanut butter. He was always eager to give good hugs.
      D.J. is survived by his parents, David Schichtel and Teri (Keith Peters) Croff; a sister, Jessica Judeen Schichtel; a brother, Alex Rice; paternal grandparents, David E. (Kate) Schichtel and Trina Falvo; maternal grandparents, Alvin (Carol) Brown; great-grandmother, Ethel E. Falvo; aunts, Kim and Kelly Brown, Julie (Dave) Grames and Judeen (Mark) Huston; uncles, Tracy (Sheryl) Croff and Mike Schichtel; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
      Visitation will take place Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at the funeral home, with Pastor Joseph Schichtel officiating.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Benedict Francis "Ben" Stefaniak, 60, of Traverse City, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at his home.
      Ben was born in Cedar on Sept. 29, 1944, one of two sons born to Leo and Lucille (Brzezinski) Stefaniak. On Jan. 24, 1969, in Traverse City, he married Marjorie June Eitzen.
      Ben had been a floor covering mechanic, having been employed by Southgate Carpets, and later had his own floor covering installation service.
      He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City and enjoyed woodworking, reading and playing games. He particularly enjoyed being with his granddaughters.
      Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; two daughters, Christina (Jason) Uithol of Interlochen and Suzann Stefaniak of Traverse City; his granddaughters, Megan and Stefanie Uithol; mother-in-law, Amelia Eitzen of Traverse City; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Lawrence Anderson of Traverse City; a brother-in-law, Werner Eitzen of Kingsley; and a sister-in-law, Donna Stefaniak of Traverse City; along with many nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Anthony; and father-in-law, August Eitzen.
      Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Robert Zagore officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the time of services.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Munson Hospice or a charity of one's own choosing.
      The family is being served by The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Bertrand Wilson, 86, of Traverse City, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Bortz Healthcare.
      A resident of Brecksville Ohio until 1974, Bertrand lived on Manistee Lake for 21 years and has been a resident of Traverse City since 1995.
      Bertrand was a member of Bible Baptist Church. He liked to make things, loved tools, music and playing the guitar, and enjoyed shuffleboard, billiards and golf.
      Mr. Wilson worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for over 30 years and was a conductor on the fast freight trains. Along with his brother, Kennard, he also operated the Wilson Water Conditioning Company in Cleveland for many years.
      Born May 20, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Robert and Verna (Herin) Wilson. On May 5, 1945, in Cleveland, he married Joyce Morris, who survives.
      Also surviving are three children, Bertrand C. (Sallie) Wilson of Palm Bay, Fla., Hope L. (Larry) Slanaker of Traverse City and Alan R. (Regina) Wilson of Fredonia, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Rory, Brennan, Nolan, Quinton and Alanna Wilson, all of Fredonia, and Bertrand III, Brandy and Kyle Wilson, all of Palm Bay, and Kelsey Slanaker of Traverse City; great-granddaughter, Sarah Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen in 1952; sisters, Roma and Norma; a brother, Kennard; and a grandson, Britt in July of 2004.
      Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Duane Cross will be officiating. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Bible Baptist Church.
