Arrangements were entrusted to the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. PAUL J. BORG, 73, of Manistee, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at West Shore Medical Center of Manistee. Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel Shrine Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Manistee. SHIRLEY J. BULLARD, 76, of Kalkaska, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at her home. A funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska, with visitation for two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley. Arrangements are by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. DONALD D. EDGERLE, 76, of Lake Leelanau, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. Memorial services will be held today, Nov. 20, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. BETTY JEAN PETTIT SEARCH died Oct. 26, 2004, in San Diego, Calif., of cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at 3 p.m., at the Trinity Church in Northport. LARRY D. STROUSE, 63, of Kalkaska, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at his home. A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at 4 p.m., at the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, with visitation two hours prior to the service. Arrangements are by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. MARION, Ohio - Margaret Lois (Schlientz) Eicher, 93, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, in Marion, Ohio, after a short illness. Margaret and her husband, Dr. Richard Eicher, spent their summers in Elk Rapids in Millers Park. The Eicher family was among the original residents of Millers Park in the 1920s. Margaret Eicher is survived by son, Richard of Marion, Ohio; daughter, Susan (Eicher) Hall of Millers Park in Elk Rapids; and sister, Martha Schlientz of Marion, Ohio. She leaves four grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was a graduate of Marion Harding High School, and was the first female student editor of the High School Year Book. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Margaret Eicher is well known to her many Marion elementary school 3rd grade students. Margaret was a life-long member of the Marion Epworth United Methodist Church since the "Cradle Roll Days' and a charter member of The Study Club and Literary Arts Club organized there in 1943. The Eichers attended the Elk Rapids United Methodist Church during their summers in Elk Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elk Rapids United Methodist Church. TRAVERSE CITY - Mary Dee Wise, 65, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Tendercare of Traverse City. She was born Dec. 8, 1938, in Mayfield, the daughter of Charles Arthur and Delia (Campbell) Wise. Mary is survived by two sisters, Marquerite Yahr and Pat (Jim) Rickman; two brothers, Charles Richard Wise and Donald (Elizabeth) Wise; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Ben Hazelton. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. LAKE LEELANAU - Donald S. Dunklow, 67, of Lake Leelanau, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at his home. He was born Feb. 9, 1937, in Lake Leelanau. Donald was a lifelong hunter and fisherman. He was especially proud of his prized raspberry patch. Donald was a talented auto mechanic and was one to always help his friends when they needed an extra hand. He is survived by his wife, Lucie Ann (LaBonte); three daughters, Tina M. (Thom) Hammontree of Deerfield, Ill., Rebecca K. (Randy) Winowiecki of Lake Leelanau and Jodi L. (James) King of Lake Villa, Fla.; a sister; Edna Maslowski of Muskegon; seven grandchildren, Lucas and Jack Hammontree, Randy Jr., Jason and Kyra Winowiecki, and Chloe and Eli King. A funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at 12 noon, at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay, with visitation for two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Lawrence K. Matro will officiate. A graveside service will follow at the Beechwood Cemetery in Leland. A luncheon will follow the burial at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Leland. TRAVERSE CITY - James E. Runk, retired lieutenant colonel of the Army, and retired GM-15 DAC, died at home on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, in his 80th year. Jim was born on March 5, 1924, in Wilmerding, Pa., the fifth of six children of Grace Dorothy Wilson and John Warren Runk. Parents and sibling have all gone to their rewards. He graduated from Westinghouse Memorial High School in Wilmerding, in 1941, and briefly attended Carnegie Tech before enlisting in the Army on March 5, 1942. In November of 1942, he graduated from Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant, the youngest ever at that time. He served with the 4th and 5th Infantry Divisions in the European Theatre of Operations, including participation in the invasion of Normandy and subsequent campaigns, until the end of World War II. He was discharged in February of 1946. He attended the University of Pittsburgh from 1947 to 1950, at which time he was recalled to active service with the 28th Division when the Korean War broke out. He completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., and did graduate work in the German language at the same school. In 1952, while serving in Germany, he was assigned to Army Intelligence, and for the next 34 years, both as a military officer and a Department of the Army civilian employee, he worked in the military intelligence field, except for a brief tour in Air Defense. Duty stations included Frankfurt and Berlin, Germany, and Vienna, Austria, and Seoul, Korea. In 1960 and 1961, he commanded the Tolchester Beach, Md., Nike Hercules/AJAX site of the Washington/Baltimore air defense system. His last military duty station was at the Pentagon, where he served from June of 1963 until June of 1968, on the staff of the assistant chief of staff for Intelligence, Department of the Army, as the senior Army representative to the Board of National Estimates. He retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel in June of 1968, and immediately took up duties with the Army's Intelligence and Threat Analysis Center in Arlington, Va. He remained with this unit until he retired again in March of 1986, with the rank of GM-15. In July of 1951, at Frankfort/Hoechst, Germany, he married 1st Lt. Margaret Rae Barry Carnall, an Army nurse, who preceded him in death in August of 1985. In June of 1988, he joined Janis Helen Heale, of Sudbury, Ontario, in marriage. Jim resided in Annandale, Va. from 1963 to 1993, when the family moved to Omena in Leelanau County, where he spent ten years before moving to Traverse City. During his military and civilian service, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, Purple Heart, DA Staff Service Badge "Green Weenie", Distinguished Civilian Award and numerous service medals with five bronze stars. He received numerous commendations and citations as a civilian, and on retirement from the civil service, he was awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service. He is survived by his wife, Janis of Traverse City; his son, Retired Maj. James Carnall Runk, daughter-in-law, Retired LTC Kathy Holloman Runk and granddaughter, Michele Nichole Runk, all residing in Swansea, Ill.; and numerous relative in the Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Huntingdon County areas of Pennsylvania. No services will be held in Traverse City. Graveside interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Arrangements are by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. TRAVERSE CITY - Donald Elmer Wright, 78, of Traverse City, died Thursday Nov. 18, 2004, at Tendercare of Traverse City. Formerly of Denver, Don came to Traverse City with the United States Navy in the 1940s. He was a longtime member of VFW Cherryland Post 2780. Born May 22, 1926, in Brush, Colo., he was the son of Lester and Marie (McKenzie) Wright. Survivors include brother-in-law, Al Lamoreaux of Denver; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise Lamoreaux; and brothers, Wilfred and David Wright. Family services are being planned and will be held in Brush, Colo. Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
