November 21, 2004ObituariesThe funeral Mass for CAROL ANN BENDER, 82, who died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at 10 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. No visitation hours are planned. The family is being served by The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. BONNIE JANE DODGE, 78, of Wellston, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date. The Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva is in charge of arrangements. LANSING - Betty Lee (Standifer) Rogers, 71, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004. She was born April 23, 1933, in Imboden Va. She was employed as a builder, and along with her husband, Jerry, owned and operated Gerald D. Rogers Builders in the Lansing area for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lansing. Surviving are Gerald D. "Jerry," her husband of 53 years; daughters, Sherry Lee Rogers of Oregon and Cindy Lou (Mark) Koval of Traverse City; and grandson, Mark D. VanSyckle of San Diego. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at 12 p.m., at the Gorsline-Runciman Company, Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI, phone (517) 482-1537, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Gordon F. Weller, Rector, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Delta Center Cemetery in Lansing. Those desiring may make contributions, in memory of Betty, to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 218 W. Ottawa, Lansing, MI 48933. EAST JORDAN - Kathryn H. Smith, 88, of East Jordan, went home to her Lord on Monday, Nov. 15, 2004. She was born on Nov. 20, 1915, in Detroit, the daughter of Percy and Julia (Knight) Heath. On March 15, 1934, she married Irving R. Smith, and shared 50 years of marriage with him until his death in 1984. When she lived in New Baltimore, Kathryn had worked as a financial consultant for the Arnold Schmidt Agency of East Jordan and New Baltimore. She also had owned and operated a restaurant named Kay's Lunch. Kathryn enjoyed a good poker game, an interesting book, and of course, her family and friends. She had an unending love for animals, and in her earlier days, she enjoyed horseback riding. She is survived by a son, Robert Smith of East Jordan; a daughter, Pamela (Michael) Burr of East Jordan; three granddaughters, Tamara (William) Kraemer, Nicole (Dennis) Skrocki and Jennifer Burr (Adam Skrocki); six great-grandchildren, William and Lucas Kraemer, Melyssa, Jacob, and Elizabeth Skrocki and Adam Skrocki III, all of East Jordan. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, nine brothers, one half brother and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. Donations, in her name, can be made to the Charlevoix County Humane Society. TRAVERSE CITY - C. J. "Tiff" McKee, 59, of Traverse City, passed away at his home with his family on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, after a four year battle with cancer. Born July 26, 1945, in Pontiac, Tiff was the son of P. D. and Roberta C. (Burton) McKee. He married the former Margaret J. Walter on July 6, 1969, in Grand Rapids. Tiff was a graduate of East Grand Rapids High School and Alma College, and studied at the University of Michigan School of Business before being drafted into the United States Army in 1969. Upon his honorable discharge in 1971, Tiff and his wife worked as Department of the Army civilians in Heidelberg, Germany. In 1975, they returned to Michigan and made their home in Traverse City, where Tiff spent the remainder of his professional life as an accountant. Tiff is survived by his wife, Margie; son, Spencer D. McKee of Traverse City; daughter, Marnie C. and son-in-law, Peter A. Kuhn of Madison, Wis.; father-in-law, B. J. Walter of Traverse City; brother, Michael P. (Joan) McKee of East Lansing; brothers-in-law, Charles B. (Carol) Walter of Williamsburg and Bruce A. Walter of Seattle; sister-in-law, Claudia L. (David) Hulbert of Santa Clara, Calif.; nephews, Mark D. (Lisa) Walter of Traverse City, Michael C. McKee of Lansing, Matthew B. (Christine) Walter of Portland, Ore., Andrew C. (Cecilia) Walter of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Michael E. (Karen) Hulbert of Phoenix, Thomas J. (Sonia) Hulbert of Moscow, Russia; nieces, Wendy S. Walter of Jenison, Meredith C. (Greg) Kelly of Marion, Ind., Martha L. (Charles) LaChance of Crawfordsville, Ind.; and his faithful companions, Tucker, Gracie and Maggie. Tiff was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Evelyn L. Walter; and sister-in-law, Corinne S. Walter. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. A private graveside service will be held. Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice House, the Father Fred Foundation or to a local charity of your choice.
