LaMAR JACK FENELEY, 79, of Traverse City, passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Munson Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at College Terrace Wesleyan Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
A complete obituary will appear in the next edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
ALAN J. FRANKEL, 79, of Traverse City, died Monday morning, Nov. 22, 2004, at Orchard Creek Skilled Nursing.
A complete obituary will appear in an upcoming edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
LAURA M. GABRIELSEN, of Frankfort, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at the Maples.
Arrangements are pending. A complete obituary will follow in the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
The Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Home and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
DOROTHY FERN WIELAND, 76, of Traverse City, formerly of Kingsley, died Sunday evening, Nov. 21, 2004, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Private graveside services will be held today, Nov. 23, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley.
The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
Michael J. Coyne
Died November 22, 2004
KINGSLEY - Michael James Coyne, born Jan. 25, 1952, died Nov. 22, 2004, surrounded by his family at home.
Mike was born in Traverse City to George and Christina (Kalchik) Coyne. He married Suzanne Steinebach on June 17, 1972.
Mike served with the U. S. Navy and had been employed as a semi driver for many years for Coca Cola. He currently was working for Total Electronics. He loved to fish with his son and grandsons and also enjoyed hunting and working in the out-of-doors. His greatest joy was spending time with his loving family.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; daughter, Lisa (Randy) Pugh; son, Scott (Andrea) Coyne; grandsons, Brandon, Caleb, Jacob, Michael and Eric; brothers, Gerald Coyne and Richard (Shelia) Coyne, all of Las Vegas, David (Nancy) Coyne of Phoenix; sister, Deb (Tim) Hutchings of North Carolina; and brother, Pat (Wendy) Coyne of Wyoming, Mich. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Mary Steinebach.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Joseph Steinebach; brother, Tommy; and granddaughter, Emily Pugh.
Mike will always be remembered by his family, friends and co-workers as a hard working, conservative, stoic and helpful individual with a heart of gold.
Visitation will take place at the funeral home this evening, Nov. 23, from 5 until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with The Rev. Dr. Homer Nye officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice or to a charity of one's choice.
The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Harris, Dr. Kohler, Dr. Prust and their staffs for the wonderful, loving care of their husband, father and grandfather. Life will never be the same, love never forgotten and Mike will always be the world's best Papa.
Carl Arthur Goss
Died November 22, 2004
TRAVERSE CITY - Carl Arthur Goss, 81, died peacefully at home on Nov. 22, 2004. The Lord took him while he was surrounded by loving family in the Elk Rapids house he helped build.
Carl was born Oct. 12, 1923, in East Jordan, was raised in Traverse City and graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1942. He was the only child of Arthur and Ada (Watson) Goss.
In 1943, Carl married his high school sweetheart, Betty Ruth Collins, and became the proud parent of four children; two sons, Carl James(Margaret) and John Arthur (Susan), and two daughters, Janet Sue Hults (Richard) and Ruth Ann Corcoran (Patrick).
Carl was a veteran of World War II, assigned to Company H of the 320th Infantry, 75th and 35th Divisions attached to the 3rd Army under General Patton. He saw action from France to Belgium and at the Battle of the Bulge.
Carl received the Medal of American Theater Campaign, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign with four Bronze Leaves, Good Conduct, Bronze Star, and Victory World War II Appreciation Medal for his services. He was a member of the American Legion for 58 years, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of The Battle of the Bulge, 35th Division, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
After his return to the states in December 1945, Carl studied and became the bookkeeper for Arms & Cole Plumbing and Heating for 18 years. He was purchasing agent for Brown Lumber and Supply Company for the following 21 years, retiring in 1987.
Carl was a member of First Christian Church, serving as chairman of the board, deacon, elder and trustee. He also served as school board president of Long Lake Area Public School in its first five years of existence after consolidating.
Carl was a life member of the Traverse City Lions and Lions International, serving as president, zone chairman, and district governor (1987-88). He felt fortunate to represent his district Lions in Hong Kong, China, at the National Convention in 1987, and served on several state committees.
Carl was a lover of animals and a gentleman farmer, moving from the city to the country to have horses and enjoy trail riding with family and friends out on Cedar Run Road. He belonged to the Traverse City Saddle Club in the late 1950s. The family moved back to Traverse City during the 1960s, when boating and fishing became his hobbies. In retirement, he delighted in spending his winters in Stuart, Fla.
His daughter, Janet, and parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, remaining daughter, sons, and their spouses; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the First Christian Church, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Doug Peterson from the Williamsburg United Methodist Church and Pastor Dave Stout from the First Christian Church will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice or the First Christian Church.
Alice Mae Selbo
Died November 20, 2004
TRAVERSE CITY - Alice Mae Selbo, 85, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
She was born March 10, 1919, in Manitowoc, Wis., to the late Harry and Minnie (Tobiason) Georgenson. She married Nels Selbo on Oct. 3, 1942, in West Allis, Wis.
Alice and Nels owned and operated Nixon Hall Nursing Facility in Hartland, Wis., for 14 years. Alice then worked as a private nurse until her retirement in 1976. She moved to the Traverse City area in 1997.
Alice was a member of Feast of Victory Lutheran Church, Acme. She was also a member the Eastern Star and the Sons of Norway. She loved to do quilting and, most of all, spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Alice is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Thomas Vehrs of Longmont, Colo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Nels W. & Donna Selbo of Elk Rapids; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Vergon; and one brother, Robert Georgenson. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother, George Georgenson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28, on the third level of Hawthorn Cottage, 523 Cottage Arbor Lane, Traverse City, located directly behind the Grand Traverse Pavilions, with Pastor Stephen Cavender officiating. Interment will be in the Bay Pines National Cemetery, St. Petersburg, Fla., next to Nels, her husband of 53 years, whom she had missed dearly for the last nine years.
Those wishing may make a donation in Alice's name to the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation, 1000 Pavilions Circle, Traverse City, MI 49684.
The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Oak Grove Cremation Center of Manistee.
Arthur J. Widrig
Died November 19, 2004
DEARBORN - Arthur J. Widrig, 88, of Dearborn, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004.
Mr. Widrig was a longtime member of the Dearborn Theater Guild.
He was the beloved husband of the late Helen Widrig; and brother of the late Ira Widrig.
He is survived by his sisters Mildred, Florence, Bernice, Lola and Jennie; a nephew, James (Chris) Widrig of Wadsworth, Ohio; and a niece, Sandra (Wayne) Anderson of Sarasota, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 23, at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave.
