      MARYJANE CEDERQUIST, 82, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Bortz Health Care.
      Friends may call Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Visitation will continue Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Reyers North Valley Chapel in Grand Rapids. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Grand Rapids.

      HERMAN C. GROSTICK III, 47, of Wilson, N.C., formerly of Benzonia, passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
      Visitation will be on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at 2 p.m., also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Daniel Biteman officiating.
      A full obituary will be in Saturday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
      The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
     
      SANDRA N. LEWIS, 65, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at her home.
      Arrangements are pending at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.

      GLEN RIGGS, 86, of Pensacola, Fla. and formerly of Oviatt, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004.
      Funeral services will be at the McNeil Keyes Funeral Home in Pensacola, Fla.
      The family plans a graveside memorial service in the spring at the Rosehill Cemetery in Empire.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Loretta Marie (Hoth) Stuck, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at her home.
      Loretta was born on June 13, 1919, to Henry and Netila (Levernier) Krisor, in Evanston, Ill. On Jan. 20, 1996, in Traverse City, she married M. Bob Stuck, who survives.
      She was employed as a secretary for the Traverse City Public Schools for number of years and was a member of the Retired TCAPS Employees Association.
      Loretta's hobbies included gardening, music and travel.
      She is survived by her husband; two sons, Gene Hoth of Suttons Bay and Ronald Hoth of Traverse City; three sisters, Helen Kortman of Traverse City, Jean Wendt of Addison, Ill. and Betty Bohn of Franklin, Ill.
      Loretta was preceded in death by husband, Henry Hoth; and a brother, Gilbert Krisor.
      Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, with visitation from 12 noon until the time of service. The Rev. Homer Nye will officiate. Interment will be in the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorial contributions may be made to TCAPS for the Traverse City High School scholarship fund.
      Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
      MESICK - Nancy B. Ellens, 65, of Mesick, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Munson Medical Center.
      She was born Oct. 16, 1939, in Mesick, to John "Jack" and Ella Rose (Bullis) Scarbrough. She married "Chuck" Sherwin Ellens on Oct. 17, 1958, in Wyoming Park.
      Mrs. Ellens loved walking on the beach, boating, people, crafts, flowers and spending time with her family.
      Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Chuck Ellens; children, Tammy Ellens of Gibraltar, Jeff (Kim) Ellens of Cadillac and Shelly (Dave) Salzer of Mesick; grandchildren, Ryan, Chelsey, Shane, Jake and Jordin; sisters, Alice (Howard) Gibson of Meauwataka and Mary (George) Liston of Manistee.
      Mrs. Ellens was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gordon Scarbrough; and sisters, Maxine Klingbeil and Dorothy Redman.
      Visitation will be today, Oct. 29, 2004, from 4 to 9 p.m., at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home in Cadillac. Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at 3 p.m., at the United Methodist Church, 121 S. Avon St., in Mesick. The Rev. Joe Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery.
      Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home in Cadillac.
     
      KINGSLEY - Mildred V. "Midge" Monigold, 88, of Kingsley, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Formerly of Stubenville, Ohio and Royal Oak, she had been a resident of the Kingsley area since 1979. Midge enjoyed flower gardening, hunting and fishing.
      Born Dec. 25, 1915, in Toronto, Ohio, she was the daughter of Michael and Nettie (Scott) Mushrush. On Dec. 1, 1939, in Wheeling, W. Va., she married Leroy E. "Dutch" Monigold, who preceded her in death on March 11, 1995.
      Survivors include two sons, Larry E. (Linda Chamberlain) Monigold of Traverse City and Michael L. (Rosemary) Monigold of Allegan; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
      She was also preceded in death by five sisters and one brother.
      Graveside services are being planned and will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in the spring.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Edward L. "Ed" Sharka, 86, of Traverse City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, in the presence of his loving family at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Besides Ed's devotion to his family, we will remember his proud service to our country. A World War II veteran, he was a tech sergeant with the 75th Joint Assault Signal Company, "JASCO." During his service to our country, from 1942 to 1945, he traveled 28,200 miles at sea and participated in seven amphibious assaults in the Pacific. Because he had a talent to fix anything, including radios, ham radios, cars and machinery, his job was to establish radio communications.
      He also built many things at home, including an electric potato grinder, which his family still uses to grind potatoes to perfection to make the traditional Lithuanian dish, Kugla. He also made toys for his grandchildren, including an amazing box with a panel of lights, buttons and sound makers. He is fondly remembered every time his great-granddaughter laughs and smiles as she plays with it.
      Ed was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #35. Those who knew Ed will remember the cheerful tune he would whistle and the funny jokes he would tell. He will be remembered with love and affection.
      Surviving Ed are his wife, Marie Sharka of Traverse City; daughter, Joanne (Dr. Manny Butt) Butt of Traverse City; son, Rodney (Myrtle) Sharka of Hindsdale, Ill.; granddaughters, Corinna (Patrick) Dewey of Alden and Sarah Dean of Detroit; grandson, Shaun Butt of Traverse City; great-granddaughter, Rebecca Dewey; and brother, Walter Sharka Jr. of Vista, Calif.
      He was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Sharka.
      A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Traverse City, with the Rev. Fr. William Lipscomb serving as celebrant. Entombment will be at Oakwood Catholic Mausoleum, with full military honors under the auspices of VFW Cherryland Post #2780.
      Those desiring, may consider memorials to Grand Traverse Pavilions.

      ELLSWORTH -John L. Groenink, 85, of Ellsworth, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, at Charlevoix Area Hospital. He was born Sept. 4, 1919, in Banks Township, the son of Martin and Winifred (Burggraaff) Groenink.
      John served with the United States Army, in the Asiatic-Pacific theater, during World War II.
      He worked in auto parts manufacturing in Muskegon; at Fairman Orchards, now Friske's; at Berger Foods, "the pickle station", in Central Lake; worked on the family farm; and also did custom work for other local farmers, shredding corn and baling hay. In 1959 he founded Groenink Eggs Inc. and marketed eggs throughout the area. He also partnered in Northern Pullets on Church Road and was a founding member of the Forest Hills Development Corp. in Ellsworth.
      A lifetime member of Belltower Reformed Church, he served several terms as deacon and elder.
      On March 5, 1960, he married Alberta Jorgensen in Edmore. They lived on the family farm and worked together in Groenink Eggs. Mrs. Groenink died in 1981.
      Surviving are his son, Mark (Cindy) Groenink of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Marie Rose, Alexis Ann and Robert Lee, at home; sisters, Wilma (Fred) Bolhuis of Ellsworth and Annalane Maurer of Ellsworth; brother, Marvin Groenink and his friend, Vonny, of Zeeland; sister-in-law, Virginia Jorgensen of McBride; and his nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by a brother, Milton Groenink in 2002; and an infant daughter, Jan Marie, in 1963.
      Friends may call on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at 1 p.m., at Belltower Reformed Church, with the Rev. Paul Copeland officiating. Burial will be in the Atwood Cemetery.
      The family suggests memorial contributions to Belltower Reformed Church or to Banks Township Fire and Rescue.
