Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Free Methodist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling. Arrangements are by the Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, in Grayling. ETHEL L. KNIPE, 80, of Valparaiso, Ind. and formerly of Central Lake, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. RONALD McGREGOR, 96, of Alba, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Charlevoix Area Hospital. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Church of the Nazarene in Mancelona. Arrangements were handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. LARRY MERRITT PORTER, 57, of Grawn, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Munson Hospice House. A gathering to celebrate Larry's life is being planned and will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. TRAVERSE CITY - MaryJane Cederquist, 82, of Traverse City died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Bortz Health Care. Formerly of Grand Rapids and Comstock Park, she had been a resident of Traverse City for the last ten years. MaryJane was a 1940 graduate of Grand Rapids Union High School, where she was the drum majorette. She also attended business school in Grand Rapids for two years. She was a 40-year member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and was secretary to the principal in the Kenewa Hills School District from 1961 through 1966. MaryJane loved to embroider, and enjoyed ceramics and collecting cook books. Born May 3, 1922, in Grand Rapids, she was the daughter of George and Ethel (Salisbury) Miling. On June 12, 1942, in Grand Rapids, she married Earle W. Cederquist, who died Sept. 6, 1984. Surviving are five children, E. Mark (Joan) Cederquist of Doraville, Ga., Mitchell Cederquist of Mt. Clemens, Dana (Lori) Cederquist of Traverse City, Virginia (Dan) Million and Patrick (Kimberly) Cederquist, both of Comstock Park; brother, Richard (Linda) Miling of Comstock Park; eight grandchildren, Tim (Laura) Cederquist, Renae Cederquist, Krista (Jason) Hillygus, Charles Cederquist, Levi Cederquist, Jessaca Kooy, Jaada Kooy and Angela (Ryan) Spry; three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Savannah and Jayelah; and many nieces and nephews. MaryJane was also preceded in death by grandson, Benjamin Cederquist in 1979. Friend may call Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Visitation will continue Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Ryers North Valley Chapel in Grand Rapids. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, with Fr. Thomas A. McKinney officiating. Long Lake Rd., Traverse City, MI 49684 or to the charity of one's choice. WILSON, N.C. - Herman C. Grostick III, 47, of Wilson, N.C., formerly of Benzonia, passed away on Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born June 12, 1957, in Ann Arbor, to Herman II and Jane Grostick. Herman was raised in Benzonia and was a Benzie County Central High School graduate. Formerly employed by Case Motors as a master mechanic, Herman was currently working as a supervisor for Cannon Roofing in North Carolina. He enjoyed playing sports and deer hunting. Mr. Grostick is survived by his wife, Debra (Plant) Grostick; mother, Jane Grostick of Benzonia; three sisters, Cris (John) McLane of Big Rapids, Elizabeth (Michael) Kevwitch of Traverse City and Teresa (Richard) Schmidt of Kaleva; a granddaughter, Riley Roberts, and her father, Reese Roberts; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father; and daughter, Angela Frederickson. Visitation will be held today, Oct. 30, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home, 1417 Beulah Hwy., in Beulah. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at 2 p.m., also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Daniel Biteman, officiating. Memorial contributions may be considered to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. TRAVERSE CITY - Sandra "Sandy" N. Lewis, 65, of Traverse City, died Thursday morning , Oct. 28, 2004, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born, in Suttons Bay, on May 2, 1939, she was the daughter of William Ludwig and Vera Elizabeth (Kelsch) Larson. On Sept. 19, 1980, in Traverse City, she married Charles Edward "Ed" Lewis, who survives. Sandy attended Northwestern Michigan College, Central Michigan University and Michigan State University. She began teaching in 1969 at Long Lake Elementary, then taught kindergarten at Silver Lake Elementary until her retirement in 1993. Sandy was a very active member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and substituted in pre-school. She also enjoyed her involvement in the Altar Guild. A life-long member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary #2780, Sandy looked forward to working the weekly bingo. In addition to her husband Ed, she is also survived by two sons, Mark W. (Sue) Brown of Duluth, Minn. and Gary G. (Dotty) Brown of Northport; two sisters, Emily Blacken and Marsha Fehrenbach; four grandchildren, Jackie Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Stephen Brown and Cody Brown; and one special great-grandchild, Alex Koepp. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Allen Larson and Lloyd Larson. Memorial services will be held on Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at 1 p.m., at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Timothy Brand officiating. In remembrance of Sandy, memorials may be directed to the Sandy Lewis Memorial for Education, c/o Gary Brown, 13188 N. Purkiss, Northport MI 49670. Sandy's quote, "I hope I am remembered for my helpfulness, caring and my humor; I loved to laugh." Don't cry for me as I lived five years after my cancer diagnosis and each day was a blessing.
