      WILLIAM “BUD” BARONTI, 86, of Traverse City, passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Arrangements were entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City
     
      HAZEL L. DICKEY, 61, of Traverse City, died Friday evening, Oct. 29, 2004, at home.
      Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      CARLTON L. “BUDS” DUNSON, 85, of Bellaire, died early Saturday morning, Oct. 30, 2004, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
      A private family graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire. A public memorial gathering will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Bellaire Senior Center.
      Arrangements are by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
      BENJAMIN HENRY MENDEZ, 74, of Benzonia, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Munson Medical Center.
      Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Eden Bible Church in Beulah. Cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
      The Oak Grove Cremation Center is serving the family.
     
      MYRLIN DODGE STURGEON, 85, of Bear Lake, passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in Bear Lake.
      Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Bear Lake United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Pleasanton Township Cemetery. Cremation will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
      The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to the Edwards-Oak Grove Funeral Home of Bear Lake.
     
      WILLIAMSBURG - Alice Pickering passed away peacefully with her husband at her side on Monday evening, Oct. 25, 2004, at the Orchard Creek Dementia Center, where she had been a resident for the past 14 months.
      Alice was born, in Washington, Penn., on Aug. 31, 1926, to Hallie Wilson Spriggs and Homer Spriggs, and was the last survivor of eight children.
      After graduation from Washington High School in 1944, Alice and classmate Ken Pickering were married in November of 1947. She then moved to State College, Penn., to join her husband, who was attending Penn State University.
      Alice and Ken moved to the Detroit area in 1949 and subsequently resided in Royal Oak, Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham. After 1989, they wintered on Hutchinson Island, Fla. Unable to resist the lure of "Up North," Alice and her husband relocated their primary residence to the Traverse City area in 1996, after having a vacation residence in Elk Rapids.
      Creative crafts were a large part of Alice's activities, but her grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She was a very active person who enjoyed her longtime friends downstate and her new neighbors in Traverse City.
      She is survived by her husband, Ken; daughter, Linda (Mrs. Joseph) Lupi; son, Mark Pickering; and grandchildren, Brad Lupi, Andrea Lupi, Stephanie Pickering and Geena Pickering.
      A family service took place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004.
      The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Munson Hospice.
     
      GRAWN - Larry Merritt Porter, 57, of Grawn, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Munson Hospice House.
      A lifelong resident of the Traverse City area, Larry was a 1966 graduate of Traverse City High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970, and was employed by Tower Automotive for the past 10 years.
      A member of the VFW Cherryland Post #2780, Larry loved to hunt fish and spend time with his family.
      Born April 25, 1947, in Traverse City, he was the son of Donald Leon and Marion Victoria “Vicky” (Kelcherman) Porter. On Oct. 13, 1973, in Traverse City, he married Janet Skiver, who survives.
      Also surviving are two sons, Larry Merritt (Latrisha) Porter Jr. of Suttons Bay and Randy Scott (Diana) Porter of Grawn; mother and stepfather, Marion and Charles Allers of Traverse City; sisters, Barbara Noel of Traverse City, Phyllis (Archie) Pouzar of South Boardman and Charlene (Brian) Kevwitch of Traverse City; brother, Donald (Kathleen) Porter of Grand Rapids; four grandchildren, Cynthia, Randy Jr., Theanna and Chase Porter; and several nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his father, Donald.
      A gathering to celebrate Larry’s life will be held Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Cherryland VFW Post on Veterans Drive.
      Memorials may be directed to Munson Hospice House.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
