HAROLD WILLIAM USHER, 82, of Marilla Township, passed away at his home on Friday, Sept. 3, 2004. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva, with Pastor Joe Wave officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A full obituary will run in Monday's edition of the Record-Eagle. The arrangements are in the care of the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. ETHEL M. YANKEE, 68, of Manistee, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Manistee. Funeral services will be held at 3 p .m., Tuesday, Sept. 7. 2004, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee. The family is being served by the Johnson Funeral Home in Manistee. Lucille Edna Mannor Died Sept. 2, 2004 BUCKLEY - Lucille Edna Mannor, 87, of Buckley, peacefully left this life to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Bortz Health Care in Traverse City. Born Sept. 21, 1916, in Oviatt in Leelanau County, she was the daughter of Frank and Lillian (Dobson) Skellett. On March 30, 1935, at St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Church in Kingsley, she married Francis Edwin Mannor, who preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1999. Lucille was a graduate of Buckley High School, a homemaker and a retired Traverse City State Hospital nursing supervisor. She was a long-time member of Hannah St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Buckley Two Cylinder Club, Buckley Retirees, State of Michigan Retirees and the Michigan Farm Bureau. She was a life member of the NW Michigan Engine and Threshers Club. Lucille enjoyed life on the farm and could make anything grow. She enjoyed sharing lunch with friends and neighbors at the Buckley School and loved tending her many beautiful plants and flowers. In her younger days, she enjoyed sewing and knitting, but most of all, she loved her family and worried about everyone else's welfare before her own. Lucille is survived by seven children, James (Marge) Mannor of Rockport, Texas, Wayne (Marina) Mannor of Stockton, Calif., Donald (Carol) Mannor of Interlochen, John (Lynda) Mannor of Buckley, Joan (Frank) Weller of Paradise and Fulton, Texas, Rosellen (Fred) Ingersoll of Mesick and Mary (Bob) Butler of Traverse City. She is also survived by four brothers, Raymond (Betty) Skellett, Walter (Yvonne) Skellett, Gene (Avelon) Skellett and Rex (Audrey) Skellett; one sister, Marie (Carl) Zue; two stepbrothers, Cecil and Duard Peck; three stepsisters, Lucille Nelson, Irene Wilson and Gladys Kevwitch; four sisters-in-law, Marguerite Skellett, Doris Skellett, June Skellett and Theo Mannor; 34 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband of 64 years, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Mildred Skellett; brothers, Victor, Clarence and Robert Skellett; one sister, Ruth (Grzybowski) Myers; one stepsister, Dorothy Korn; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary to be prayed at 7:30 p.m., at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Church in Kingsley, with additional visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Fr. Michael Janowski will officiate the Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Mass Intentions or St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic School. Peter P. Winowiecki Died Sept. 3, 2004 CEDAR - Peter P. Winowiecki, 75, of Cedar, died at Munson Medical Center with his loving family at his side. Born June 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Kadrovach) Winowiecki. In his early years, Pete spent his time on the family farm. He served two years in the military during the Korean War. He then worked as an excavator for Basch and Sons until his retirement. During retirement he enjoyed working at the Senior Center and delivering meals on wheels. Pete was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed working on his 40 acre swampland. He will be greatly missed by his son, Leon Winowiecki, daughter, Betty Gloshen; grandson, Nicholas Swartout; and granddaughter, Ciara Swartout. He is also survived by his siblings, Frank (Berniece) Winowiecki, Agnes (Clemence) Mikowski, Al (Shirley) Winowiecki, all of Cedar, Marie (Paul) Meeuwenberg, Adeline Winowiecki of Traverse City and Delores (Robert) Kromberg of Petoskey. Preceding him in death were his sisters, Patricia Winowiecki and Anna Snyder; a brother, Victor Winowiecki; and a son, Peter Leon Winowiecki. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Monday evening, Sept. 6, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary to be prayed at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Roberta Dorothy Harrand Died Sept. 2, 2004 TRAVERSE CITY - Roberta Dorothy Harrand, 84, died on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. She was born, the last of six children, on April 5, 1920, in Isabella County. Roberta had been employed at Second National Bank in Saginaw for 30 years. In 1990, in Rochester, she married Aloysius Harrand and they moved to Kingsley one year later. She leaves two stepsons, David (Wanda) and Dennis (Anita); three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two very dear sisters-in-law, Stella Dague and Mary Dague; niece, Kay Spiegel; many nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Beryl Williams and his wife. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Inland Baptist Church, 19915 Honor Hwy., in Interlochen. Pastor John Gleason and Pastor Bruce VanDussen will officiate. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw. Marilyn Carrier and her husband have been very helpful. The Harrand and Pahl families, along with a host of friends, have been so kind. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. Mary Clausen Law Died Sept. 1, 2004 HOWELL - Mary Adelaide (Lark) Clausen Law, 87, of Howell, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004. Mary was the Director of Emergency Services at St. John Hospital in Detroit. She is survived by her children, George (Frances) Clausen, Nova Starling, and Christine (Edward) Brinker; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Elk Rapids. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Borek Jennings Funeral Home. Margaret Bye Delanty Died Sept. 2, 2004 SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Margaret Bye Delanty, 96, died Thursday, September 02, 2004, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born in Wallin, Margaret grew up in Traverse City. She graduated from Central Michigan State Teacher's College in Mt. Pleasant, now Central Michigan University, in 1927, as an elementary educator. Her early teaching days were in Ecorse, where every first grader in her class learned to read before moving on to the next grade. She married John Delanty in 1935 and they moved to Chicago. In 1945, they moved back to Michigan, first to Williamsburg and then Traverse City, where they raised six children. Margaret taught at the Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Traverse City and even had her two youngest sons in her classes. John, Margaret and three of their sons moved to southern California in 1961. She again taught in a Catholic school for many years. John died in l976 and Margaret continued to live in sunny California with her sister, Nikoline. In 1992, they moved to Sheboygan, Wis. to be near Margaret's daughter, Jane Robinson, and her family. Arizona became their home in 1997, first in Mesa and then in Fountain Hills, and since January, Scottsdale, Ariz. Margaret is survived by her sister, Nikoline Bye of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; sons, John (Siobhan) Patrick of Northampton, N.H., Larry of Koh Samui, Thailand, Bill (Jil) of Portland, Ore. and Jim (Donna) of Park City, Utah; daughter, Jane (Lee) Robinson of Fountain Hills and formerly of Sheboygan and Kohler, Wis.; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her son, Dick (Monica); and twin sons, who died at birth. A Mass in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at 10 a.m., at the Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills, Ariz. Internment will be on Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, in the Good Shepherd Cemetery in Huntington Beach, Calif., where her husband and son are buried. The Messinger Funeral Home in Fountain Hills is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Ascension Memorial Fund, in honor of Margaret Delanty, for the new church building fund. Harley Blair Rice 1912-2004 TORCH RIVER BRIDGE - Harley Blair Rice passed away peacefully on July 17, 2004 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions assisted living unit, where he had spent ten very happy months. The Rice family were some of the earliest settlers in Kalkaska County and the Torch River Area. Harley was born above the family grocery store on Torch Lake, near the Torch River Bridge, on Jan. 25, 1912. He graduated from Rapid City High School in 1929, where he later served on the school board for many years. Following his graduation from high school, he attended Ferris and Michigan State. On Feb. 2, 1935, he married Hattie D. Ford. Following the death of Hattie in 1969, he married Ethel Kelly, who also preceded him in death. Harley had been employed at Ford Motor Company from 1934 until 1942, at which time he returned to run his family grocery store at Torch River Bridge until 1963. Harley also worked as a draftsman at Part Manufacturing in Traverse City. During the second World War and the Korean War, he worked at Cone Gear Drive. When he retired, he and his wife enjoyed many winters in Bonita Springs, Fla. and summers on Torch Lake. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and reading his Bible. He gave generously to Christian media and Christian organizations. Harley is survived by three children from his first marriage, Elton B. (Kay Boudjalis) Rice, Margaret A. (Morris) Booth and Mary F. (John) Reynolds; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Hattie, in the Henry Ford Family Cemetery in Detroit. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with Harley's grandson, Pastor Jason Reynolds, officiating.
