Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at 3 p.m., at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City. A complete obituary will appear in Saturday's edition of the Record-Eagle. Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. ROBERT GENNA, 83, of Harper Woods, summer resident of Cedar, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at his home with his family. Services were held at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Detroit. ROBERT KERR, 74, of Kingsley, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at home. Arrangements are pending and a full obituary will be in Friday's edition of the Record-Eagle. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kingsley Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Memorial services for PHILIP "SONNY" KITTLESON, of Frankfort, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Benzie Area Church of Christ in Frankfort. Private interment will be in the Gilmore Township Cemetery. The Oak Grove Cremation Center is serving the family. EARL METCALF, 81, formerly of East Jordan, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at 10 a.m., at the Sunset Hill Cemetery in East Jordan. The arrangements were handled by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. PHILLIP PSUTY, 97, of Lake Leelanau, died June 25, 2004. A memorial service will be held at the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at 11 a.m. KATE RHEA SLAUGHTER, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Bortz Health Care. Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m., at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. TRAVERSE CITY - Michael Pojen, 87, of Traverse City, formerly of Petoskey and Cheboygan, died Aug. 20, 2004, at the home of his brother-in-law, Robert A. (Anna G.) Gregorich, in Lake Ann. He was born on Oct. 3, 1916, in Hibbing, Minn. Michael graduated from Fordson High School, in Dearborn, in 1935. He worked in various supervisory positions for 19 years at the Ford Motor Company. In January of 1979, he retired from McLouth Steel. He is survived by his dear brother, John (Betty) Pojen of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and his nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Gregorich Pojen; his mother, Rose Petrlich Pojen; his father, Michael Pojen; four sisters; and two brothers. A funeral Mass was held on Aug. 25, 2004, at the Church of the Divine Child in Dearborn. He was laid to rest beside his wife at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Detroit. LELAND - Gordon H. Robertson, 77, of Leland, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at his home in Leland. Mr. Robertson was born in Worcester, Mass. on March 20, 1927, the only son of Ernest G. and Helen (Holmes) Robertson. On June 24, 1949, he married Paula E. MacDowell, who survives. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Tuck-Thayer School of Business Administration and Engineering. He joined the Ford Motor company 1950 and, until his retirement in 1982, was active in a variety of management positions in manufacturing, assembly and customer service. His specialty was quality control management in engine, foundry and body and assembly operations. After his retirement he moved to Leland, where he spent the next several years as a consultant in his specialty to a number of major automotive suppliers. Mr. Robertson was an enthusiastic skier, sailor, pilot and traveler. More recently, Mr. Robertson enjoyed participating in a number of community organizations as a dedicated volunteer. He helped to found ShareCare of Leelanau, was chairman of the board of the Leelanau Conservancy, a member of the board of the Leelanau Memorial Health Center and was active in various offices of the Suttons Bay Rotary Club and the Leland United Methodist Church. Besides his wife, also surviving are his four children, Sheryl Roslund, Paul, Dean and Sally Robertson; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Leland Community United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, a 1 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Leelanau Conservancy, ShareCare of Leelanau or the Leland United Methodist Church. Arrangements are with the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. TRAVERSE CITY - Virgilene Fort, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at the Fort Walton Beach Care Center in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Virgilene was a dental assistant for Dr. Nothstine for many years during the 1950s and '60s, worked at the Grand Traverse Medical Care Facility for several years until her retirement and was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church. Born November 13, 1914, in Gaylord, she was the daughter of Clarence and Lucille (Thomas) Murner. Survivors include daughter, Jacqueline (John) Finch of Traverse City; son, Richard L. (Janice) Fort of Navarre, Fla.; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, Leon Murner, half brother, Harold "Curly" Murner and his wife Gladys; and the father of her children, Leonard R. Fort. Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time the of service. Virgilene's grandson, Nathan Fort, will officiate the service. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cherry Knoll School to benefit the Autistic Program. MIDLAND - Alice Rae Albee, 85, of Midland, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at the MidMichigan Medical Center Midland. She was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Maple City, to the late Edward and Margaret (Coleman) Cluff. On Dec. 31, 1942, she married Ray Lewis Albee, who preceded her in death on July 30, 1987. Mrs. Albee attended the Maple City Schools, the Lewis Chapin School of Business in Traverse City and Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. She taught in Maple City and the McGill School in Midland. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Earlene Albee and Brian and Helen Albee, all of Midland; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Thomas Babel of Fairfield, Ohio and Bonnie and Donald McMullen of Midland; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Todd, Daniel, Cheryl, Scott, Amy, Kimberly and Joette; sister-in-law, Helen Cluff of Traverse City; and two nieces, Elaine Cluff of Traverse City and Linda (Steven) Pedlow of Chicago. A graveside service will be held at the Midland Cemetery at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, with the Rev. John Dick, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Midland County Council on Aging. The Smith-Miner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
