Arthur Edmund Larys
Died April 9, 2005
TRAVERSE CITY - Arthur Edmund Larys peacefully laid to rest on Saturday, April 9, 2005, in his home.
Art was born on New Years Day in 1921, in Chicago, to Laura (Holzknecht) and Peter Larys. He fell madly in love with Frances Roberge and wed her on the seventeenth day of November in 1943. They celebrated their monthly anniversary every month for 62 years.
Art fought bravely as a citizen soldier in World War II and became a true war hero, though he was often too humble to talk about his experience.
He played the accordion by ear for many years and made life-long friends with his band members.
He believed his greatest accomplishment was raising a strong, loving family. He and Frances had three daughters in Chicago, Patricia, Susan and Laura. He taught them how to ride bikes, swim and give wiggle hugs. He always enjoyed their company and was touched to watch them teach his grandchildren, Sean Carr and Meg Wickstrom, to live with the same spark he had tried to show them.
Art will be dearly missed for his quick wit, kind nature and loving compassion. The world would not have been the same without him, but the legend of his life will live on through the family forever.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
