Obituaries


      KENNETH E. BRYAN, 70, of Frankfort, died Monday, April 11, 2005.
      Funeral services will be held at a later date.
      The Benzonia Chapel of McEldulff Funeral Homes and Cremation Service is handling the arrangemets.
     
      Memorial services for RONALD CHERVENKA, who died March 24, 2005, will be held Saturday, April 23, 2005, at 2 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Zagore will officiate.
     
      CLAYTON J. KEVWITCH, 89, of Traverse City, died Monday, April 11, 2005, in Detroit.
      Services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at 2 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where friends may begin to call at 11 a.m. A full obituary will be in Tuesday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
      GERALD HARRY KROGH, 57, of Elk Rapids, died Friday, April 15, 2005, at Munson Medical Center.
      Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, April 18, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church in Elk Rapids, with Pastor Don Nemec officiating.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids.
     
      IRENE PUHAR, 79, of Cadillac, died Friday, April 15, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac.
      Visitation will be held Monday, April 18, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Floyd Soper officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Township Cemetery.
     
Robert Carl Nogrady
Died April 14, 2005
      RAPID CITY - Robert Carl Nogrady, 86, of Rapid City, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2005, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. Born June 22, 1918, in Grand Rapids, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Nogrady.
      An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed a lifelong love of the outdoors.
      He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in March of 1941 and served on the Pacific islands of Guadalcanal and Tarawa. He re-enlisted and served during the Korean War.
      After military retirement, Robert joined the Grand Rapids Fire Department, where he served for 25 years. During that time, he built his future retirement home in Rapid City.
      He is survived by his sister, Nancy Stark; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
      Cremation has taken place. A military memorial service will take place at a later date.
      Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell funeral Homes.
     
Charles R. "Chuck" Lewis
Died April 14, 2005
      CEDAR SPRINGS - Charles R. "Chuck" Lewis, 60, of Cedar Springs, died suddenly Thursday, April 14, 2005.
      He was born in Traverse City on June 12, 1944, and graduated from Traverse City High School in 1963. His work included the roofing and plumbing trades among other occupations. He was always employed in a supervisor's capacity, and was well known for his hard work and the pride he took in it.
      Chuck had retired recently to a life of hunting and fishing, which he enjoyed often with his children, friends and family. He had a great love for Michigan, nature, mushroom picking, gardening and his dogs. He always looked forward to a good time, home cooking, stories and laughter.
      He is survived by his wife, Henriette A. Lewis; two sons, Todd C. Lewis and Shane M. (Diana) Lewis; stepchildren, Linda, Sandy, Diane and Jeff; and several grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Josephine Lewis, sisters, Jean (Joseph) Lada and Dorothy Fehrenbach; and several nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by father, Gerald Lewis; brother, Donald Lewis; and brother-in-law, Willard Fehrenbach.
      A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bliss-Witters Cedar Chapel in Cedar Springs.
     
Stephen Guy Black
Died April 15, 2005
      NORTHPORT - Stephen Guy Black, 71, of Northport, formerly of Englewood, N.J. and Phoenix, Ariz., died Thursday afternoon, April 14, 2005, at his home with his loving wife by his side.
      Stephen was born on Long Island, N. Y., in the area of Springfield on Sept. 8, 1933, the son of Guy and Edith (Callahan) Black. On Aug. 8, 1978, in Phoenix, Ariz., he married the former Bonnie G. Burgess, who survives.
      A honorably discharged veteran, Stephen served his country faithfully with the United States Air-Force, retiring as a Communications Staff Sergeant after 21 years of service.
      He enjoyed target shooting and life in general. Stephen will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, love of dogs and his love for his country-the good old U.S.A.
      In addition to his wife, Bonnie of Northport, he is also survived by two daughters, Laura Lyn (Michael) McInery of Phoenix and Lisa Dawn (Randy) Christopher of Glendale, Ariz.; one brother, Michael McCombe of Edmonds, Wash.; three grandchildren; and the family pet, Baron, a rottweiler.
      Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
      In remembrance, memorials may be directed to the Airmen Memorial Museum, 5211 Auth Road, Suitland, MD 20746 or to the charity of one's choice.

Gwynne N. (Bourdo) Trolenberg
Died January 22, 2005
      NORTHPORT - Gwynne passed away on Jan. 22, 2005, in El Paso, Texas, at the home of her daughter, Shanon Drake.
      Gwynne was born Feb. 27, 1934, in Northport, grew up there, and considered it her home town. She did travel extensively throughout the United States while her husband was in the military.
      She attended Northwestern Michigan College. Gwynne had a unique talent when it came to music. Having a natural ear for music led her to be a children's choir director in several churches. She was most proud of the children's performances at Christmas and Easter.
      She is survived by one daughter, Shannon Drake, her husband, Bob, and three grandchildren, Josh, James and Mary Drake of El Paso, Texas; one son, Bradley Trolenberg, his wife, Karen, and two grandchildren, Rachel and Anna of Northport. Also surviving are one sister, Carolyn Pickering; and two brothers, George Bourdo of Traverse City and Jon Bourdo and wife, Pat, of Northport.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Trolenberg on April 10, 1991; and her parents, Oscar and Voda Bourdo of Northport.
      Services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2005, at 10 a.m., at the Trinity Church in Northport. Interment will follow at the Northport Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the charities of choice.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
Charles R. VanDusen
Died February 13, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Charles R. VanDusen, 80, of Traverse City, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla.
      He was a veteran of the Navy, serving in World War II.
      Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jacqueline (Reno); daughter, Lynne (Mike) Borer; two sons, James (Sue) and John (Karen); grandchildren, Katie and Amy Borer and Melody and William VanDusen; sister, Barbara (Wallace) McKim, all of Traverse City; and brother, William (Helen) VanDusen of Gaylord.
      A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14, 2005, in Traverse City. A full obituary with service details will be in a later edition of the Record-Eagle.
