August 4, 2005ObituariesMiriam KennedyDied August 1, 2005 SPRINGPORT - Miriam Kennedy of Springport went to celebrate her birthday in heaven with her husband, Harry, and family on Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at the age of 93. She was born Aug. 1, 1912, in rural Alpena to Wilson and Laura Bartley. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Christensen; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Miriam attended the Pope United Methodist Church since 1941. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, fisherwoman, and a great cook. The family will receive friends at the J.C. Adams Funeral Home, Springport Chapel, on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Miriam's life will be held at the Pope United Methodist Church on Sunday, Aug. 7, at 3 p.m., with Pastor Jack Fugate officiating. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice or to the Pope United Methodist Church. The family is being served by the J.C. Dorothy Evelyn (Milliron) Milam Died August 2, 2005 COPEMISH - Dorothy Evelyn (Milliron) Milam, a native of Manistee County and long-time resident of Copemish, died of natural causes Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at her residence on Doneth Road in Cleon Township, in the company of her sons, James and John. She was 85 years of age. Born in Manistee County on Oct. 25, 1919, she was the eldest of five children born to Franklin and Edna Milliron. She was a graduate of the Copemish class of eight students in 1938, where she lettered in basketball and was president of the Athletic Council. After graduation, she moved to the Detroit area, where she worked for Kelsey-Hayes Wheel Company as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II, supporting the war effort by making tank parts. Following the war, she settled with her first husband, Clarence Leland Ross, in Centerline, and later in Harrison Township in Macomb County. After working briefly as a telephone operator, she worked for Ford Motor Company in its Sterling Heights plant from 1953 until her medical retirement in 1976. Following her retirement from Ford, Dorothy returned to Copemish with her husband, William Milam, spending the winters with William at their winter residence near Orlando, Fla. She was an avid outdoors person who enjoyed fishing and deer hunting, and could bring down a deer on the dead run from a substantial distance with her .270 Winchester until a 1986 stroke limited her activity. She also enjoyed playing bingo several times a week and was a member of the local American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her brother, Gordon Milliron of Muskegon; sister, Ruth Harris of Irons; brother, Charles Milliron of Nessen City; daughter, Mary Katherine Mouton, and husband, Morris of Clinton Township; son, James Jay Ross, and wife, Cheryl of Copemish; son, John L. Ross, and wife, Claudia, of McKinney, Texas; son, Nemo Milam of Georgia; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Ms. Milam was predeceased by her parents, Franklin and Edna Milliron, in 1961 and 1981 respectively; her sister, Mildred Harju; her husband, William Nemo Milam in 1994; a stepdaughter, Christine Milam in 1984; and a granddaughter, Lynn Anne Mouton Bennett in 2004. Visitation will be held today, Aug. 4, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Diane Bareis officiating. Interment will follow in the Cleon Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Read-Osborne Post #531, 18483 Cadillac Hwy., Copemish, MI 49625. The Terwilliger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
