August 7, 2005ObituariesIVAN ERICKSON, 76, of Alabama, formerly of Williamsburg, passed away Jan. 13, 2005. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Memorial Gardens on Veterans Drive in Traverse City. MICHAEL JOHN FEICHTENBINER, 70, of Traverse City and Grand Rapids, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 6, 2005, at Munson Hospice House. Arrangements are pending at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City. MARGARET VanAMBURG, 83, of Kalkaska, formerly of Traverse City, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care. Arrangements are by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. William Henschell Died July 20, 2005 HOUGHTON LAKE - William Henschell, 83, of Houghton Lake, died suddenly July 20, 2005, after an auto accident. Mr. Henschell was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Buckley, to Grace and William Arthur Henschell. During the Depression, young Bill served as a caddie at a local golf course and proudly contributed his earnings to the household. Bill married Jean Eleanor Moore on June 4, 1944, and celebrated almost 60 years of love, companionship and golf before Jean's passing last May. In 1977, Bill retired from a long career on the railroad, most recently as president of the Toledo Terminal. Bill and Jean moved permanently to Houghton Lake in 1977, where they shared their summers with their three children, four grandchildren and one great-grandson. A long-standing member of the Elks, Masons and Shriners, Bill enjoyed spending time with friends and helping others in need. Bill was a self-taught pianist who loved to play Big Band and Boogie Woogie tunes. He could often be seen on local streets taking his long daily walks. He devoted much time and attention to maintaining his lovely green lawn and had filled his cottage with his own colorful landscape paintings. Bill shared the values of equality, truthfulness and moral strength with his family, and showed his children the importance of a life of grace and kindness. He will be greatly missed. Bill is survived by his brother, Evan Henschell of Michigan; daughters, Karen Henschell and Candace Chilmonczyk, both of California; and son, Kirk Henschell of Houghton Lake. Other survivors include grandchildren, Kalisa Turanchik of Arizona and Dr. Trieva Turanchik, Samantha Chilmonczyk and Mason Chilmonczyk, all of California; and great-grandson, Griffin Zorn of Arizona. No service will be held, but a memorial marker will be placed at Lake Township Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan. Joseph Peter Olenzak Died August 5, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Joseph Peter Olenzak, 93, of Traverse City, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005. Born March 7, 1912, in Manistee, he was the son of George and Martha (Faucz) Oleniczak. He married Bea Hunter in Manistee in February of 1941. Joseph worked at Cone Drive Gear. A skilled craftsman in metal working and woodworking, he also owned and operated Joe's Fix-it Shop. In his younger days he owned Ole's Tavern in Manistee. He loved building boats, fishing and hunting. Joe took pride in setting up a wood working shop for the Sisters at the Carmelite Monastery. He loved playing golf after his retirement. Joe will be missed and remembered always by his family. He is survived by his three children, daughter, Diane (Amedeo) Manzin, son, Robert (Sue) Olenzak and daughter, Rose (Matt) Teeter; three grandchildren, Amy (Doug) Gullekson, Annie (Geoff) Niessink and Jan Matthew Teeter; and four great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Bea; four brothers; and one sister. Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Carmelite Monastery in Traverse City or the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City. Ann E. Simpson Died August 4, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Ann E. Simpson of Traverse City passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at Tendercare of Traverse City. Ann was born Nov. 12, 1937, in Flint, to Thomas and Eva Juanita (Stokoe) Rowe. On March 3, 1961, Ann married John Simpson, and enjoyed 30 years of marriage with until his death on Sept. 3, 1991. Ann worked many years as a frame girl and operator for the telephone company, where she met her husband. Most recently she continued to work with a local antique appraisal company. Ann kept busy volunteering with groups such as the Tawas-St. Joe Hospital Womans Auxiliary, Baycliff Health Camp and the Telephone Pioneers of America. She found enjoyment working crew on the Tall Ship Manitou, gambling, working on jig-saw puzzles and reading a good book. Ann is survived by two daughters, Melissa (James) Pemberton of East Tawas and Alissa (Jonathan) Whitlock of Estes Park, Colo.; two granddaughters; Christine and Erica Whitlock, both of Estes Park, Colo.; four brothers, David (Senia) Rowe of Northport, John (Jean) Rowe of Manistee, George Alan (Betty) Rowe of Charlevoix and Mike (Loann) Rowe of Mayville; and many other loving family members and friends. Ann was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., at the Elks Lodge in Traverse City. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation or Hospice of Michigan. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
