Molly P. Levin
Died August 26, 2005
OLD MISSION - Molly P. Levin, 83, departed this world for the next on Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. A true daughter of Old Mission, she was at home on the family sesquicentennial farm. Molly was born on March 18, 1922, to George and Helen (Pratt) Altenburg.
Molly led an amazing life. She proudly cast one of the few consistently Democratic votes on the peninsula, beginning with Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Molly traveled extensively, taking in the sights from New Zealand to Budapest.
She also actively participated in the community as a long-standing member of the Ladies Aid, the Historical Society and the Old Mission Women's Club.
An accomplished homemaker, Molly baked the best cherry pie on the peninsula and made sure family and visitors were always welcome on the family farm. Molly was a skilled cherry farmer and gardener, sharing her abundance with the community.
We remember Molly as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Molly is survived by her children, Steve (Nikki) Sobkowski of Big Rapids, Mary (Mike) Doyle of Bozeman, Mont., stepdaughter, Lisa (Larry) Molnar of Ann Arbor, and stepson, Arthur Levin of Spokane, Wash.; along with grandchildren, Lydia (Joe) Pomey, Sarah (Daniel) Steiner, Elizabeth Sobkowski, Katie Sobkowski, Molly Doyle and Sam Doyle; step grandchildren, Kallen Molnar and Jordan Molnar; great-grandchildren, Nick Pomey, Allie Pomey, Sabrina Steiner and Natalie Steiner; and four grand dogs she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Len Sobkowski; son, Joe Sobkowski; and her second husband, Jordan Levin.
A celebration of the life of Molly Levin will be held Wednesday Aug. 31, at 1 p.m., at the Old Mission Congregational Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Old Mission Congregational Church or the Peninsula Community Library.
Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
