Obituaries

      MARGARET AUGUSTA CARL, 89, of Cadillac, formerly of Bear Lake Township in Manistee County, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Lakeview Lutheran Manor in Cadillac.
      Memorial services will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at 4 p.m., at the Edwards-Oak Grove Funeral Home in Bear Lake, where the family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Cremation will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee, with final interment in Forest Hill Memorial Park in Oak Creek, Wis.
      The Edwards Oak Grove Funeral Home of Bear Lake is serving the family.

      BEVERLY JEAN PIKE, 74, of Bear Lake, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Munson Medical Center.
      A memorial Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated today, Aug. 31, 2005, at 1 p.m., at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Onekama. The family will receive friends at the church from noon until time of service. Cremation will be at Oak Grove Cemetery with final interment in the Pleasanton Township Cemetery.
      The Edwards-Oak Grove Funeral Home of Bear Lake is serving the family.
     
Annabelle Christine "Anna" Herman
Died August 29, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Annabelle Christine "Anna" Herman, 96, a homemaker of Traverse City, died Monday evening, Aug. 29, 2005, at Munson Medical Center.
      Born Jan. 29, 1909, in Cedar, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Frances (Barch) Glazier. She was married at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Cedar to Walter W. Herman.
      A long-time resident of the Traverse City area, Anna was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was an avid Bingo player, card player, and enjoyed crocheting afghans, as well as her frequent trips to the casino.
      Prior to her retirement, Ann worked at the Traverse City State Hospital and at the cafeteria at Immaculate Conception Catholic School.
      Anna is survived by her three sons, Walter (Clara) Herman of Cedar, Raymond (Carolene) Herman of Acme and Sherwood (Romana) Herman of Traverse City; seven grandchildren, Terry, Randy, Mike, Kim, Pam, Todd and Lynn; three great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
      Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Herman; a grandson, Scott Kevin Herman; a brother, Alex Glazier; and her sister, Betty Petroskey.
      Private family services will be held today. Following cremation, inurnment will take place at Oakwood Catholic Cemetery.
      In remembrance of Anna, memorials may be directed in her name to the Carmelite Monastery.
      Arrangements were made by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
     
Julia Ann Ivany
Died July 19, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Julia Ann Ivany, nee Kurston, passed away peacefully early on July 19, 2005, at the age of 90, at Munson Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends.
      Julie is survived by her two daughters, Evelyn (Jon) Petersen and Helen Kathleen (Jeff) Ivany-Mort of Traverse City; brother, John Kustron of DeMotte, Ind.; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
      A Celebration of Life Service and reception will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, 11 a.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with Fr. John Hennessy officiating.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the local Democratic Party.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

Russell Edward King Jr.
Died Aug. 27, 2005
      LANSING - Russell Edward King Jr., 45, of Lansing, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005.
      He was the beloved brother of Linda (James) Hankes-Smith and Laura (Greg) Murphy, both of Traverse City.
      Donations may be directed to the Volunteers of America Michigan, 430 N. Larch, Lansing, MI 48912.

Anna Geneva Nagy
Died August 29, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Anna Geneva Nagy, 78, of Traverse City, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at her residence.
      Anna was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Bardwell, Ky., the daughter of Huston and Lillie Elizabeth (Smith) Dowdy. She married Frank Nagy, who passed away Jan. 24, 1986.
      Anna enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, reading detective magazines, and watching the Food Network.
      Survivors include her daughter, Vernie Mae Nagy, and son, George Thomas Nagy.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Woodmere Cemetery.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
Mary Lou "Mimi" Wilson
Died August 28, 2005
      FRANKFORT - Mary Lou "Mimi" Wilson, 64, of Frankfort, died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 28, 2005, at home after a four-month struggle with cancer. Mimi was born May 15, 1941, in Owosso.
      After graduating from Michigan State University in 1963 with a teaching degree, she began raising a family and taught for the Owosso Public Schools.
      Mimi grew up spending summer vacations at her family cottage on the south shore of Crystal Lake. Her love of Crystal Lake and the surrounding area led her to settle in Frankfort with her four children in 1977.
      Mimi touched the lives of many, teaching in public education in Benzie, Manistee and Wexford Counties for 25 years. She retired in 2002 after teaching for 14 years in adult education with the Michigan Works Learning Labs.
      Mimi's passion for helping others earned her many friends. She will be greatly missed, but we are comforted knowing she has gone to the place the Lord has prepared for her.
      She is survived by her mother, Mary "Joenzi" Wietzke of Frankfort; sister, Polly Peterson of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Clark J. Wilson of Frankfort and Mark (Rae Ann) Wilson and their family, Samantha, Rachel, Faith and Grace of Manistee; daughters, Melissa (Patrick) Snyder of Grand Rapids and Molly (Larry) VanZandt of Acme; grandchildren, Hayley (Peterson), Rachael (Peterson) and Zorran VanZandt of Acme; niece and nephew, Pirkko and Daveed Peterson of Jacksonville, Fla.; and cousins, Ellen (Zerban, Frances) Hersher-Brown of Washington D.C. and Dale (Polly J) Hersher of Benzonia.
      Mimi was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Wietzke; and father, Mark Wietzke.
      A private celebration of her life is to be held at a later date.
