      ERNESTO "ERNIE" GARCIA, 63, of Frankfort and Alamo, Texas, died Monday, July 11, 2005, at Munson Medical Center.
      A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, July 24, 2005, at 5 p.m., at Rice's R&R Motel Gardens on M-22 in Frankfort. Cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
      The family is being served by the Oak Grove Cremation Center.

      HENRY J. HOINBERG, 97, of Rapids City, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Meadow Brook.
      A family graveside service has taken place at Melton Township Cemetery.
      Arrangements were by the Wolfe Funeral Home of Kalkaska.

      JULIA A. IVANY, 90, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Munson Medical Center.
      Arrangements will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.

      JANET I. KROUPA of Pembroke Pines, Fla., formerly of Traverse City, died peacefully Saturday, July 16, 2005, at home with her family by her side.
      A full obituary will be in a later edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are being made by the Joseph Scarano Funeral Home in Pembroke Pines, Fla.
      The Mass of Christian Burial for GRACE M. WEADOCK, 17 months, will be held Thursday, July 21, 2005, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will take place today, July 20, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where the rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.

      FREDA WOJCIK, 76, of Grayling, formerly from the Detroit area, died Sunday, July 17, 2005.
      A memorial service will be held Monday, July 25, 2005, at 1 p.m., at St. Mary's Cathedral in Gaylord.
      Arrangements are by the Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling.
     
J. Glen Burgin
Died July 18, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - J. Glen Burgin, 90 , of Traverse City, died Monday, July 18, 2005, at Tendercare of Traverse City.
      Glen was born Sept. 20, 1914, in Canton, N.C., the son of George and Augusta Burgin. In Flint, on Nov. 5, 1949, he married the former Mary L. Howard, who survives.
      Glen was a lieutenant in the United States Navy. He received his bachelor's degree from Wayne State University and MBA from Harvard in 1943. Glen worked as a controller for Lincoln Mercury Parts Division.
      He has lived in the Traverse City area for the past 30 years after moving from Birmingham. In his spare time, Glen loved to golf and was a member of the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. He was also a member of the Harvard Business School Alumni Club.
      In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Ginger) H. Burgin of Traverse City; granddaughters, Brandy Case, Amanda Burgin and Mary Burgin, all of Traverse City; and a grandson, Eric Burgin of Traverse City.
      Glen was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roy Burgin.
      A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on Saturday July 23, 2005, at 11 a.m., with the Reverend Louise Kountze officiating. Friends and family may call Friday July 22, 2005, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer Association or Grace Episcopal Church Building Fund.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.

Ethel (Walters) DeTour
Died July 18, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Ethel (Walters) DeTour, 95, of Traverse City passed away Monday evening, July 18, 2005, at the Pavilions.
      Born April 17, 1910, in Suttons Bay, she was the daughter of Nick and Helen (Grohowske) Walters. She attended Traverse City Central High School. On Sept. 6, 1937, in Traverse City, Ethel married Reuben DeTour, who preceded her in death in 1990.
      Through the years, she was employed at The Fashion Shop, Carroll's Cotton and Teboe Florist.
      Ethel's love of family and her cooking, knitting, crocheting, sewing, entertaining and generosity will be remembered by all who knew her. Ethel and Reuben provided many unforgettable summer vacation memories for all their extended family at their home of 67 years on East Bay.
      She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Jack) Dean of Traverse City; granddaughter, Kim (Jeff) Coran of Poulsbo, Wash.; two great-granddaughters, Susan and Jonna Coran, also of Poulsbo, Wash.; brother, Clifford (Anita) Walters of Traverse City; sister, Mildred Mullen of Traverse City; sisters-in-law, Reva (DeTour) Teboe, Garnet DeTour, Elsie Walters and Jackie (Arthur) Dundon, all of Traverse City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      Ethel was also preceded in death by two brothers, Al Walters and Gil Walters; sister, Viola Walters; grandson, Jon Lowrie Dean; and her best friend, Henrietta Carroll.
      Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 21, 2005, at 1 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where friends may begin calling at 10 a.m. The Rev. Kenneth Stachnik will officiate. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City.
      Ethel's family would like to thank the staff at Grand Traverse Pavilions-Maple for the exceptional care given to her, and memorials may be directed there in her name.

Clare E. Glandon
Died July 15, 2005
      FT. MYERS, Fla. - Clare E. Glandon, 88, of Ft. Myers, Fla., died on Friday, July 15, 2005, at Shell Point. He was born on Nov. 22, 1916, in Norden, Neb., the son of Clarence and Mary Glandon. A resident of Ft. Myers, Fla., since 1982, he formerly lived in St. Louis.
      He graduated from the University of Nebraska, where he met his wife, Joyce, and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho and the Dairy Judging team.
      He was employed for 43 years by the Pet Milk Company of St. Louis until his retirement. An Army veteran, he served during World War II in the Pacific, attaining the rank of captain, and earning three Battle Stars and the Bronze Star.
      Clare was active in the community as a member of Rotary, Boy Scouts of America, the United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Masons for 50 years. In Florida, he enjoyed many years of volunteer work at the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island.
      He and his wife were very proud that all three of their children graduated from Northwestern University and have advanced degrees.
      Mr. Glandon is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joyce (Kovanda) Glandon; his precious children, Virginia (George) Nugent of Vestal, N.Y., Judith (Robert, deceased) Mc Lachlin of Chesterfield, Mo., and Robert (Victoria) Glandon of Ridgefield, Conn.; his six dear grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his brother, James of Kearney, Neb.
      A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at 10 a.m., in the Faith United Methodist Church, 15690 Mc Gregor Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the above named church.

Mabel A. Jamieson
Died July 15, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Mabel A. Jamieson, 90, of the Old Mission Peninsula, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Mrs. Jamieson was born April 26, 1915, in Indiana, the daughter to Harvey and Frances Jarrett. Mabel lived in the Traverse City area since childhood and in Florida from 1977 to 1994. She was a homemaker on the family farm on Old Mission Peninsula, and was also employed for 10 years at the Traverse City State Hospital.
      In her spare time, Mabel enjoyed painting, gardening - which included raising beautiful Iris and practicing organic gardening - mushroom-picking, walking in the woods and playing cards. Mabel was a member of the Ogdensburg United Methodist Church, her children's PTA, and the Civil Defense.
      Mabel is survived by her sons, Calvin (Verla) Jamieson and Elmer (Farrell) Jamieson, both of Traverse City; daughters, Judith A. (Ed) Eckart of Paola, Kansas, and Janice (David) Guest of Harrietta; sisters, Thyrza Gilmore, Frances Hill and Helen O'Niel, all from Florida; grandchildren, Kelli, Karla, Krista, Jamie, Lori, Jeanne, Janice, Thomas, Matthew, Michael, Todd, Toby, Jessica and Mark; and 17 great-grandchildren.
      Mabel was preceded in death by her husbands, who were brothers, Harold Jamieson and Ivan Jamieson; her parents; a son, Jack Jamieson; brother, Elmer Jarrett; sisters, Mary Lawrence and Ruby Gilmore; and two grandsons, John Jamieson and Kim Jamieson.
      Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, at the Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church (formerly Ogdensburg United Methodist Church), with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Rev. Dave Minger will be officiating.
      Memorial donations may be made to the Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church, the Grand Traverse Pavilions or the Traverse City Senior Center.

Harry P. Kaminski
Died July 18, 2005
      EMPIRE - Harry P. Kaminski, 85, of Empire, died Monday, July 18, 2005, at Just a Whisper in Lake Leelanau.
      Harry was born in Hamtramck on Nov. 4, 1919, to Max and Veronica Kaminski. A veteran of World War II, Harry served with the United States Navy. Following his service to our country, he married his wife, Betty, on June 12, 1945, in Gaylord.
      For 25 years Harry and Betty lived in Utica, where he was a tool and die maker. In 1982 they moved to the Empire area, where they enjoyed their retirement years.
      Harry was a very talented builder, constructing many homes and duplexes. He completed all of the work on the structures, including plumbing, electrical and all phases of the building process. He actively planted trees, including many Colorado Blue Spruce on his properties, tremendously enjoying his tree farming.
      Always desiring to stay busy, he always had a project going. Harry was an avid hunter, was a member and former King Lion of the Empire Lions Club, served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in his early years and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
      Harry is survived by his daughter, Harriet "Sue" Barner of Traverse City; sons, David Kaminski of Empire and Greg (Jan) Kaminski of Redwood City, Calif.; grandchildren, Cheryl Crimando, Michael J. (Kimberly) Crimando, Brittany Kaminski and Jesse Kaminski; and two great-grandchildren, Michael T. Crimando and Olivia Crimando. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Marge Kaminski; a niece, Patricia (Ron) Wilkowski and a cousin Stan (Lillian) Pykosz.
      Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; a brother, Joseph; and a sister, Joan, who died in childhood.
      Visitation will take place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Thursday, July, 21, 2005, from 3 to 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire on Friday, July 22, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time the Mass of Christian Burial will begin. The Rev. Father Garth Hilmer will serve as celebrant. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Empire.

Melinda T. Tavener
Died July 14, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Private services were held for Melinda Thomas Tavener, who died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at her home. She was 58.
      She was born May 30, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Herbert Austin Thomas Sr. and Louise Hughes Johnson.
      Melinda was a native of Ft. Thomas, Ky., and spent her summers at her family's cottages in East Leland. She permanently moved to Leelanau County in 1988.
      Melinda's life revolved around her family, friends, pets and her love of cooking and gardening. She is finally at peace and will be forever remembered for her quick wit, ready laughter, bright smile and loving heart.
      She is survived by her mother; two sons, Robert Walton Tavener of Franklin, Ohio, and Andrew Austin Tavener of Annapolis, Md.; two sisters, Mimi L. Mullin and Gabriella "Gay" Thomas Maloon; a brother, Herbert Austin "Bert" Thomas Jr.; and a large contingent of assorted cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
      Melinda was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Sr.
      Memorials may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
