July 22, 2005Traverse City Film FestivalBehind the scenes: the committeeThe Traverse City Film Festival is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to heightening film appreciation and access in northern Lower Michigan with showings of independent movies, classic and foreign films, documentaries and other motion pictures, many of which would not otherwise be available in the region.Founder Michael Moore has won an Oscar ("Bowling for Columbine"), an Emmy ("TV Nation"), a Palme d'Or at Cannes ("Fahrenheit 9/11"), and the British Book of the Year award ("Stupid White Men"). He has a home in Antrim County. Co-founder Doug Stanton is a lifelong Traverse City resident who has written and traveled extensively as a contributing editor for Esquire, Outside and Men's Journal magazines. His book, "In Harm's Way," spent nine months on the New York Times bestseller list and is under development at Warner Brothers. His upcoming book, "The Horse Soldiers," is a dramatic account of 12 secret U.S. soldiers who entered Afghanistan immediately following Sept. 11, 2001. The book is in development at Sony Pictures. Co-founder John Robert Williams has lived in Traverse City all of his life. A full-time commercial photographer for over 25 years, Williams has a studio in downtown Traverse City. Festival Manager Jason Pollock is a filmmaker who's worked with Michael Moore since 2003. Pollock has filmed and produced a number of projects for Moore and has toured the world promoting Moore's books and films.
