Thompsonville Hwy.JOAN F. VAN PELT, 83, of Northport, died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. There are no services planned at this time. Arrangements are with the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. Julia Ann Ivany Died July 19, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Julia Ann Ivany, nee Kurston, passed away peacefully early on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at the age of 90, at Munson Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends. She was born Feb. 28, 1915, and spent her early years with six brothers and sisters in Uniontown, near Republic, Pa. During the Depression, the family moved to Gary, Ind., where Julie grew up, was married, and raised two daughters, Evelyn and Helen Kathleen. She was active in PTA and Girl Scouts, and was publicity chairman for the Lake County Girl Scout Council, as well as administrative secretary for her husband's business, H.I.B. Engineering. The family and business moved to Michigan in the 60s, where Julie became an active member of the Fennville community. For the past 26 years she has lived in both Acme, where she was a board member for the Grand Traverse Condo Association, and in Traverse City. She attended both Christ the King and St. Francis and was a volunteer for Munson Medical Center. One of her hobbies was writing, and in 1989 she won second place in the Record-Eagle competition for "Stripped," a short story based on her personal experience with her husband's Alzheimer's disease; Eric Ivany preceded her in death in 1994. In her final years, Julie was an active participant in water aerobics at the Pavilions, and was a well-loved and inspiring member of her "swimming club." These women, the first group to join the arthritis therapy classes, were among her closest friends. Julie is survived by her two daughters, Evelyn (Jon) Petersen and Helen Kathleen (Jeff) Ivany-Mort of Traverse City; a brother, John Kustron of DeMotte, Ind.; as well as grandchildren, Heather Hewett of Ann Arbor, Eric Hebert of Gainesville, Fla., Erica Alisha Larson of Kalkaska, Erin Larson of Traverse City, Karin Petersen of Newnan, Ga. and Kristin Petersen of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Nate Hewett of Ann Arbor, Jason Seixas of Clearwater Fla., Amanda Hebert and Melissa Hebert of Gainesville, Fla. and Jamal Bernard of Kalkaska; and great-great-grandson, Hunter Seixas of Clearwater, Fla. A Celebration of Life Service and reception will be held on Sept. 3, 2005, at 11 a.m., with Father John Hennessy officiating. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the family. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Edwina 'Wyn' Odle Died July 8, 2005 FRANKFORT - Edwina Odle, 94, died Friday, July 8, 2005, at The Maples. She was born on Aug. 18, 1910, in Mt. Clemens, the daughter of John and Grace Jenney. Edwina married Harry V. Odle in 1939 in Mt. Clemens; he preceded her in death in 1995. Wyn and Harry lived in Elberta for about 25 years. She was a resident of Michigan Shores for several years before coming to The Maples in January 2003. She was an avid bridge player and gardener. She volunteered at the Frankfort Library and was a member of the local Garden Club. Edwina had a degree in English from the University of Michigan. She is survived by her sons, James Odell of Lecanto, Fla., and Thomas Odle of Dearborn,; daughter, Andrea (Odle) Hofmeister of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Nick and Mary Hofmeister and Jenney Odell. There will be a memorial luncheon for Wyn on Aug. 1 in Frankfort. The Frankfort Chapel of McElduff-Jowett Funeral Homes & Cremation Service is handling the arrangements. Charlene Ostlund Died July 16, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Charlene Ostlund, 49, died on Saturday, July 16, 2005, in Traverse City, at home surrounded by her family, after a two-year battle with cancer. Born Sept. 7, 1955, Charlene grew up in Westland. She graduated from John Glen High School in 1973, and continued her education to complete her associate's degree. Soon after marriage, Charlene and Kevin moved to the Old Mission Peninsula to have their four children. Charlene was a wonderful mother, and each of her children were special to her. She taught them well and gave them tools for life, the biggest one love. Charlene was loved by many; she had a lot of great friends. She will also be remembered by several children that attended Old Mission Elementary School, where Charlene was the librarian. Charlene loved the children at Old Mission, and the teachers who worked there. Her friends were endless in their care and help. She had a special relationship with her sister, Sherry, her friend, Paula, and the Gal Pals, to all of whom the family is extremely grateful for the support they have given. Charlene is survived by her husband, Kevin Ostlund; her beloved children, Bethany, John, Scott and Eric; a wonderful sister, Sherry Hutcherson; and several helpful and loving friends. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 30, 2005, at 1 p.m., at her home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to American Cancer Society, which will help in the continuation of cancer research.
