Odds and ends from the Film Festival

FROM STAFF REPORTS

Muriel's in downtown Traverse City has gotten into the Film Festival spirit by decorating their windows with a movie theme.
Dimi Burgess of Muriel's used film strips draped around the windows to tie together such elements as full-sized cutouts of Humphrey Bogart and John Wayne, pictures from old Look magazines, a director's chair and more.
"Somebody put a lot of work into those windows," said a Cheboygan woman visiting Traverse City who called to commend them. "Whoever did it in the shop did a great job."

Popcorn and movies may go hand in hand, but at the Old Town Playhouse, it's water and candy - and not during the movie. Due to a long-standing policy banning food and drink in the OTP auditorium, concessions will offer those items only, in the downstairs lobby and then only water and candy.

Traverse City Film Festival founder Michael Moore loves movies. Asked for his top 10 all-time favorites, he responded. They are, in no particular order:
      "Hearts and Minds"
      "Clockwork Orange"
      "Taxi Driver"
      "Wild Strawberries"
      "PeeWee's Big Adventure"
      "Lost in America"
"Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story" (by Todd Haynes)
      "Sherman's March"
      "Sophie's Choice"
      "To Kill a Mockingbird"
