Memorial services for CAROL CADARET, mother of Rhonda Greiner and Dawn Hunt, will be held Sunday July 31, at 1 p.m. at New Hope Church Community Center, U.S. 31 North, Acme. CHARLES K. DAVIS, 98, of South Boardman, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care. Visitation will be today, July 29, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Wolfe Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lodi Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. RUTH N. MIKSES, 85, of Maple City, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Maple Valley Nursing Home. Arrangements are pending with the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. RONALD A. MILLER, 63, of Manistee, died Sunday morning, July 24, 2005, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Services will be held Sunday, July 31, at noon, at the family's home at 3830 Milarch Road in Manistee. Arrangements are by the Johnson Funeral Home in Manistee. Dorothy Farrow Died July 26, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Dorothy "Dottie" Marguerite Farrow, 89, died peacefully Tuesday, July 26, 2005, surrounded by her loving family at Munson Hospice House. She was born on March 11, 1916, in Flint, the daughter of Errol and Anna (Murphy) Gartland. She attended Saint Michael's Catholic School in Flint, and married Norman S. Miller in 1940. Dorothy followed her husband's career, living in Texas, California and Florida before returning to Michigan in 1953. In 1956, Dorothy married William F. Farrow, and together they owned and operated a men's clothing store in Davison and a uniform store in Flint until William's death in 1969. A working mother, Dorothy was employed for 25 years as the main office receptionist by the A.C. Sparkplug division of General Motors Corporation. In 1978, at the age of 60, she married the late John Connor of Grand Blanc and moved to Traverse City to be near family. Dorothy was very proud of her Irish heritage and family. Her life-long love of dancing was well known by all who knew her. She was admired by others for her fun-loving, vivacious and effervescent personality, and often enjoyed challenging conventional expectations. She was kind and generous to everyone and held a special place in her heart for children. She always placed others before herself and was quick to praise or compliment people, even strangers. For a number of years after her retirement, she was a Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital volunteer. She also enjoyed travel and spending the winter months in Venice, Fla. For many years, in anticipation of her own death and funeral, Dorothy would tell her children, "After I'm gone, I hope no one would stand around crying over me. I would much rather you have a party with dance music, cocktails and good food. Have pink carnations, say nice things about me, and have a good time. Just make sure I have on my earrings." Per her wishes, Dorothy enjoyed her last Margarita at Munson Hospice House and died wearing her earrings. She is survived by one brother, Donald (Patricia) Gartland of East Tawas; three children, Eileen Marie "Tina" (Ronald) Beitel of Williamsburg, Michael S. (Pauline) Miller of Traverse City and Robert H. Miller (Steve Belkin) of San Jose, Calif. She left seven grandchildren, Jeff (Diane), Jim (Sondra Mokus), Scott (Molly), Ron and Julie Beitel, Chris Miller and Julie (Mike Lober) Miller-Lober; 15 great-grandchildren, Shannon, Brittany, Stephanie, Maria, John, Caitlin, Lauren, Drake, Joshua, Andy, Todd, Tiffany, Tony, Adam and Benjamin; 15 nieces and nephews; and special friend and companion, Betty Imhoff of Traverse City. She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Leo (Katherine) Gartland, John "Jack" (Margaret) Gartland, Ray (Margaret) Gartland and Robert Gartland. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 11 a.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church in Acme. The family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial. Friends and family are invited to a celebratory luncheon at the Elks Club in Traverse City at 1 p.m. At her request, Dorothy's cremains will be interred at the Davison Cemetery on Monday, August 1, at 1 p.m., immediately followed by a luncheon at the Davison Country Club, arranged and hosted by long-time friends, Joyce and Oren Minto. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice House of Traverse City or the Alzheimer's Association. Margaret "Peggy" Joyce (Hinsch) Gottschalk Died July 26, 2005 HONOR - Margaret "Peggy" Joyce (Hinsch) Gottschalk, 70, of Honor, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 23, 1935, in Ypsilanti, to Alpha and Helen (Boik) Hinsch. Peggy lived a rich life in Livonia with her husband, George, and in Honor for the past 20 years. Peggy was loved by all for her kindness and caring nature. Even in the final months of her life she always put others before herself. She will be greatly missed by her husband; children, Gary Smith and wife, Lori, Jeff Smith and wife, Linda and Sandy Peros; stepchildren, Linda Gottschalk, and Larry Gottschalk and wife, Heather; grandchildren, Trevor, Cara, Audrey, Wyatt, Josh, Tyler, Zach, Alexandra and Erin Paige. She is also survived by her sisters, Geraldine Gottschalk, and Beverly and husband, Larry Graham; sister-in-law, Norma Gottschalk; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will always be remembered for many things, but most of all her beautiful flower gardens, intricate quilts and her sheet apple pie. She was a member of Lake Shores Garden Club, Trillium Piece Makers and Family Community Education (FCE). A memorial Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held to celebrate her life Saturday, July 30, 2005, at 11 a.m., at St. Philip Neri Church in Empire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice in Traverse City or the American Cancer Society. Stephen Died July 26, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Janet Muir Marshall Miller Stephen, 96, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at her home at Hope Village in Williamsburg. Janet was born in New Stevenston, Scotland, on July 13, 1909, to Annie (Knox) and John Marshall Miller. She married James Stephen in the 1930s in Indiana. Janet was an avid volunteer, being very active in the war effort during World War II. She collected nylon hose and grease for the war effort, and knitted gloves and helmets for soldiers during the war through the American Red Cross. Janet worked for many years as a bookkeeper for R. L. Polk and Co. She was past president and treasurer of Alpha Nu (wives of Phi Kappa Upsilon fraternity), was a past president of the YMCA Mothers Club in Royal Oak, helped cook and serve lunch on Saturdays for Y.M.C.A. kids, as well as helping with dinners at the Y.M.C.A. She often volunteered for the United Foundation, the American Legion Society, and collected door-to-door for Muscular Dystrophy (Jerry's Kids). She was also a member and past treasurer of the Traverse City Women's Club. Janet is survived by her son, John M. Stephen of Irving, Texas; daughter-in-law, Dixie Stephen of Traverse City; grandchildren, Ann (Bill) Winters of Ann Arbor, David (Lisa) Stephen of Aspen, Colo., and Linda, Rebecca, Sherri, John, Adrienne and Heather Stephen; 19 great-grandchildren, including Sean, Henry and Kirby Winters and Connor Stephen; along with several nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James Stephen II; and a sister, Jean Fordyce. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with the Rev. Louise Kountze officiating. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society. John F. "Jack" Vert Sr. Died July 28, 2005 WILLIAMSBURG - John Francis Vert, 82, of Williamsburg, died Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Bortz Health Care. Jack was born in Leelanau County on March 11, 1923, the son of Frank and Anna (Skipski) Vert. A veteran of the United States Navy, John married the former Grace Baatz on Dec. 16, 1944, in Burbank, Calif. Jack enjoyed playing golf with his sons. A wonderful father and grandfather, he was adored by his grandchildren. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Grace; two sons, John "Jack" (Beverly) Vert Jr. of Williamsburg and Wayne E. (Rebecca) Vert of Birmingham; daughter, Joyce M. (Ronald) Hess of Colorado Springs, Colo.; granddaughter, Madison Vert; seven grandsons, Ken, Andy (Kate), John, Trevor Vert, Dion (Amy) DeMeyer, Christian (Becca) DeMeyer and Aaron (Shawna) DeMeyer; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Jacob DeMeyer; and step grandchildren, Jeremy, Ashley and Heather Hess of Colorado Springs, Colo. Memorial services will be held Sunday, July 31, 2005, at 3 p.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church in Acme, with the Rev. Fr. Jerry Micketti officiating. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Vert's cremated remains will be inurned in the niche wall at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery. Virginia Mae Wagester Died July 28, 2005 MANCELONA - Virginia Mae Wagester, 61, of Mancelona, passed into eternal peace at her home on Thursday, July 28, 2005, surrounded by her family after a 10 month battle with cancer. Ginni was born in Peck on June 20, 1944, to Martin and Dorothy Wagester. She was a graduate of Peck High School and Michigan College of Cosmetology. She was co-owner of the Korner Kurl Beauty Shop in Lexington. After moving to Kalkaska, she worked as a beautician at the Kalkaska Long Term Care Unit. Her faith, church and family were her priorities in life. She lived her beliefs every day, always putting everyone's needs and wishes above her own. Ginni enjoyed working in her flowers, horseback riding, baking, and had a love for animals. She was a member of the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Williamsburg and Central Lakeport Methodist Churches, where she was a Sunday School teacher and youth group leader for many years. Ginni is survived by brothers, Wesley and Kathy Wagester of Almont, Dean and Ellen Wagester of LaPeer, and Ray and Robie Wagester of North Branch; nieces and nephews, Michael Wagester, Michelle Kennedy, Martin and Heather Wagester, Marla and Tony Fallarme, Deana and Tim Hunter, and Jay and Dara Wagester; great-nieces and great-nephews, Nicholas Hunter, Ashley and Brittany Kennedy, Lily Fallarme and Griffin Wagester; an aunt, Mrs. William Jones of Deckerville; as well as her extended family, Dorothy Schram, business partner and friend of 42 years, Linda Schram, Douglas and Sue Schram, Justin Richards, Dan, Heather, Amanda and Nicholas Colombo, Shawn, Kelly, Kristen and Taylor Schram, Scott, Dawn, Tiphani and Danielle Schram and Jean Stoutenburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Dorothy Wagester. Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2005, at 1 p.m., at the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place through the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kalkaska United Methodist Church Building Fund, the Special Olympics or to a charity of the donor's choice.
