Odds and ends from the Film Festival

FROM STAFF REPORTS

Those attending movies at the Traverse City Film Festival are being treated to opening trailers created by Traverse City's Dog Butter-field animation studio.
Partners Robert Hughes and Joe Walker created several of the short films, each with different scenarios, festival manager Jason Pollock said. The one shown on opening night featured goofy characters with cherries and cherry pie prominently placed, including Hughes' wife, Jenn, chomping on a cherry pie - a whole one, in the pan.
"It's been done at other film festivals," Pollock said. "They see a bumper at the beginning of each film that puts a little stamp on it."
      -
Heard any good rumors lately? They seem to be flying around town, when it comes to actors and actresses who are supposed to be here for the film festival. Names making the rounds include Johnny Depp, Kevin Spacey, Kevin Bacon, Johnny Depp, Sharon Stone and Bill Murray. And did we mention Johnny Depp?
Tracy Kurtz of the film festival committee is having a little fun with the rumor mill herself. "My favorite was Brad and Angelina at Moomers last (Wednesday) night," she said, laughing.
      Why was it so funny?
      "I started it."
