Odds and ends from the Film Festival

FROM STAFF REPORTS

Overheard on the street downtown Friday was this end of a conversation a 40-something man was having with great enthusiasm on his cell phone:
"You have to come visit here. The weather is fabulous. I golfed all day yesterday. I saw great movies today. I'm going to the farmer's market tomorrow.
"We have to call a real estate agent."
      -
As of Friday morning, 75 percent of the Traverse City Film Festival's 19,000 tickets had been sold, according to Tracy Kurtz, a spokeswoman for the festival.
      -
There were more than sharks circling the Open Space waterfront at Thursday night's "Jaws" screening. Shortly before the film rolled, a spotlighted catamaran plugging the alternative Traverse City Freedom FilmFest sailed into view, to be greeted by boos and chuckles from the audience.
      -
Can't find the Bravo! store, site of Traverse City Film Festival ticket sales, in the phone book? It's listed as "Interlochen Center for the Arts" on Front Street. The number is 932-1463.
      -
Critter Control of Traverse City sponsored Thursday night's free showing of "Jaws." Critter Control's CEO Kevin Clark spends winters in Florida, where local staff said he does a lot of deep sea fishing.
He's even caught shark before, though "not a Great White," said an employee in the Traverse City office.
