ROSE ANN DOERING, 68, of Traverse City, died Wednesday evening, June 1, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. Cremation has taken place and private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City. BENNY JOSEPH LAUTNER, who died Dec. 16, 2004, will have a celebration of his life on Friday, June 10, 2005, at 6 p.m., at the Long Lake Friends Church, 4172 Church Road, Traverse City. GLADYS M. LIJEWSKI, 90, of Manistee, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, in Sterling Heights. Visitation will be today, June 5, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated Monday, June 6, 2005, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m., at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cadillac. Arrangements are by the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. MARILYN J. SMITH, 70, of Traverse City, died Saturday, June 4, 2005, at her residence surrounded by loving family. A full obituary will appear in Monday's edition of the Record-Eagle. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. WILBERT R. "BILL" SORENSON, 87, of Crystal Lake Twp., passed away at his home Friday, June 3, 2005. Larry Joe Kinney January 18, 2005 LAS VEGAS - Memorial services for Larry Joe Kinney, 66, of Las Vegas, formerly of Traverse City, will be held Thursday, June 9, 2005, at 3 p.m., at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City. The Rev. Dr. Gary Hogue will officiate. Mr. Kinney passed away Jan. 18, 2005, due to complications of cancer. Larry was always a loving and gracious husband, father, grandfather and brother to his wife of 47 years, Sandra; his daughters, Terri and Cindy; his daughter-in-law, Susan; his two grandchildren, Kaylena and Joey; and his beloved brother, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy; his parents, R.V. and Edna Kinney; and his sister, Tut. Bessie J. "Bee" (Sadilek) Humpula Died June 3, 2005 CHESANING - Bessie J. "Bee" (Sadilek) Humpula, 88, of Chesaning, passed away Friday, June 3, 2005, in Traverse City. Her parents were Frederick C. Sadilek Sr. and Eva (Skodak). Her husband was Edward Humpula, who passed away in 1983. Together they had owned Ed and Bee's Dairy Bar. She then worked at Farmer Peets. Those left to mourn her include her two children, Edward "Mick" Humpula of Tawas City and Judith Berger of Suttons Bay; three grandchildren, Mickey, Stephanie and Tom; two great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Adrienne; brother, Charles Sadilek of Chesaning; and many loving nieces and nephews. Those who have passed away include her two brothers and sister, Dr. Edward Sadilek, DVM, Fred Sadilek and Mary Glaska. Friends may call at the Misiuk Funeral Home of Chesaning today, June 5, 2005, from noon until 9 p.m., with a Vigil service at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place on Monday, June 6, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Chesaning, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate, with burial at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Chesaning. Janet Heldt Jopke, Ed.D. Died June 1, 2005 TROY - Dr. Jopke, 62, passed away peacefully June 1, 2005, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., after a month-long heart related illness. She was born in Bay City, Mich., on Oct. 4, 1942, to the late Jerome H. and Florence E. (Weber) Jopke. She was a member of the Bay City Central High School Class of 1961, and was inducted into the Bay City Central "Hall of Fame." Her college degrees include a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University, a Master of Arts from Oakland University and an Education Specialist and Doctorate from Wayne State University. Dr. Jopke taught in public schools in Bay City, Mich., Norwalk, Calif., and West Bloomfield, Mich. She served as a reading consultant, principal, coordinator of primary programs and assistant to the superintendent in Utica, Mich. She was the former superintendent of schools in St. Clair Shores, Mich. In its 50 year history, Dr. Jopke was the Troy School District's longest serving superintendent, having begun her career there in 1993. Under her leadership, Troy gained a national reputation as a premier school district. Honors awarded the district under her leadership included all schools achieving Michigan Exemplary status, all schools accredited by North Central Association and both Athens and Troy high schools being named one of the 98 top high schools by the U.S. News and World Report. Her professional activities include executive board member of the Metropolitan Bureau of School Studies, executive board member of the Tri-County Alliance, past national delegate of the American Association of School Administrators, a member of the Dean's Advisory Board and Alumni Association Board Member for the College of Education at Michigan State University, member of the Dean's Advisory Board at Oakland University and a past officer of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Educator's Sorority. Dr. Jopke's community involvement includes past member of the board of directors of Henry Ford Hospital, Northeast, past chairperson of the Downtown Development Authority in Troy, Mich., and past member of the board of directors of the Boys' and Girls' Club. She was selected for the Michigan State University College of Education Alumni Award for Outstanding K-12 Administrator and was given the "Distinguished Educator" award by Wayne State University College of Education Alumni Association in May 2005. She enjoyed spending leisure time at her home in Elk Rapids, Mich. She is survived by her brother, Jerry Jopke; a goddaughter, Mrs. Brian (Stacie) Santhany; and a godson, Geoffrey Schwartz, all of Bay City, Mich.; as well as several cousins. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2005, at 2 p.m., at the Troy Athens High School Auditorium in Troy, Mich. A private service will be held at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Bay City, Mich., at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Troy Foundation of Educational Excellence or the Utica School Foundation for Educational Excellence. Straub, 95, of Traverse City, died May 20, 2005, at Arbor House, where she had made her home the last few years. Marian was born in Hoopeston, Ill., and married her husband Robert in Hoopeston in 1931. They lived in Evanston, Ill., where Robert owned and operated Robert Straub and Company. Following the sale of his company, he and Marian retired to Traverse City in 1972, her husband's home town. Marian was a longtime member of First Congregational Church. Marian is survived by two sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; and two brothers, Charles and Thomas. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at Oakwood Cemetery (follow yellow cones), with The Rev. Ron Sinclair officiating. Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
