"DICK" LEONARD, 75, of Williamsburg, died Thursday evening, June 23, 2005, at Munson Hospice House. Arrangements are pending and a full obituary will appear in a future edition of the Record-Eagle. The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home is serving the family. MARY JANE "MJ" YOUNG, 56, of Grayling, died Tuesday, May 21, 2005. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 2 p.m., at "The Forty," 4750 Stalely Lake Road, Grayling. Arrangements are by the Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling. Nancy Bonisteel Calcutt Died June 23, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Nancy Ann Bonisteel Calcutt of Traverse City passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005. Nan was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Ann Arbor, to Lillian and Roscoe O. Bonisteel. She attended Ann Arbor University High School and graduated from the University of Michigan, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. On March 1, 1947, she married Harry Calcutt and moved to Traverse City, where Harry joined Robert Murchie in law practice. In her younger years, Nan was an avid tennis player, skier and a very competitive golfer. She also enjoyed cards and continued to play in bridge marathons this winter at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. She was also a member of Crystal Downs. She was active in the community, volunteering at Munson Medical Center, as a member of Three Generations of Women's Giving and attended the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City. She always enjoyed travel with her children, and in her later years visited Europe, Africa, South America, Australia and New Zealand. Nan will always be remembered for her generous spirit, her kind and gracious style and the continual joy she provided to her children and grandchildren. They will always remember her quick smile and happy disposition. She epitomized the grace and manners of her generation. Nan is survived by her sons, Harry (Betsy) C. Calcutt III, Harvey (Kathryn) Calcutt and William B. Calcutt; daughter, Mary (Bruce) Byl, all of Traverse City; 10 grandchildren; and sisters, Jean Knecht of Evanston, Ill., and Betty Johnson of East Grand Rapids. Her husband; parents; twin brother, Roscoe Bonisteel Jr.; and sister, Frances Fisher preceded her in death. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 29, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A private service will be held for the family. Carol Jean Komrska Died May 6, 2005 MADISON HEIGHTS - Carol Jean (Kamradt) Komrska, 64, of Madison Heights, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Mrs. Komrska was born Nov. 28, 1940, and was raised in Traverse City before moving to Madison Heights in 1969. Although being a Licensed Practical Nurse, she spent the majority of her life as a homemaker for her husband and four sons. She was well liked in the neighborhood and was know as Grandma Carol to many of its younger residents. She was predeceased by her father, Albert (Sam) Kamradt; and her mother, Mary Alice Kamradt. Surviving are her husband, George Komrska; children, Daniel Komrska, Bryan (Shara) Komrska, Micheal Komrska and Russell Komrska; grandchildren, Sean, Madeline, Aidan and Gracie Komrska; sisters, Doris (Louis) Turner of Sneads Ferry, N.C., Shirley (Wendell) Brooks of Dunedin, Fla., and Sharon Eickenroth of Kingsley; brothers, Paul (Iris) Kamradt of Jenison and Russell Thomas Kamradt of Jupiter, Fla. Mrs. Komrska was laid to rest at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak, following a graveside service on Sunday, May 8, 2005. Arrangements were handled by Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home of Royal Oak. D. Albert "Al" Raney Died June 24, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - On Friday, June 24, 2005, Al went to meet his Lord from his home in Traverse City. Born Sept. 27, 1918, in Coral, he was the son of Edward and Lillian (Lickert) Raney. He moved to Traverse City as a young lad and attended Traverse City High School. Al was a member of the First Congregational Church for over 50 years and a life member of Elks #383. In 1936, he began working for the Grand Traverse Metal Casket Factory, leaving for Parts Manufacturing Company, where he was severely injured. He later became owner of Al Raney Excavating. At Northwestern Michigan College's 50 year celebration, he was given a plaque and a standing ovation for donating all of his equipment to clear the grounds for the present college. Later, he and Les Walton merged their equipment into Raney-Walton Excavating. During this time they received two large contracts for the first Elmwood Township Breakwater and the Empire Air Base. After selling out to his partner, he brought three franchises for import cars into Traverse City. On June 5, 1937, he married Bonnie Purkiss at the Purkiss Gardens in Northport and they remained married for 68 years. Left to mourn their loss are his wife; daughter, Mona Kay (Richard) Beldin; sons, Charles (Darla) Raney and Howard (Noy) Raney; grandchildren, Conni (Brian) Weese, Heather (Mark) Kage, Brenden (Janine), Kevin (Tricia), Keith (Titi), and Jeremy and Catherine Raney; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Martha (Kenneth) Raney; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his brothers, Phillip, Kenneth and Max; sister, Florence Engstrom; daughter-in-law, Patricia (Sterk) Raney; and grandson, Todd Charles Raney. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Gary Hogue officiating. Burial will be in the church Garden of Remembrance. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First Congregational Church or Munson Hospice. Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
