      DORIS (CALHOUN) BARLOW, 78, of Harrisville, formerly of Suttons Bay, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Alpena General Hospital.
      A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 1 p.m., at St. Michael's Cemetery in Suttons Bay.
     
      DOUGLAS A. BURTON SR., 70, former Mesick resident, died at home in Mt. Morris on Tuesday, June 28, 2005.
      Visitation will take place today, June 30, 2005, from 5 to 9 p.m., at the Martin Funeral Home, 1194 E. Mt. Morris Road, Mt. Morris, Mich. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, 2005, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.
     
      GERALD DAVID CATER, 64, of Brethren, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at his residence.
      Visitation will be held Friday, July 1, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m., at the Epworth United Methodist Church in Brethren, with the Rev. Carl Greene officiating. Interment will be in the Brethren Cemetery.
      The Terwilliger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
     
      BARBARA JANE COMSTOCK, 78, of Bear Lake, died peacefully at her home Tuesday, June 28, 2005.
      Cremation will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
      The Edwards-Oak Grove Funeral Home of Bear Lake is serving the family.
     
      HAROLD HUEY, 53, of Elk City, Okla., formerly of Traverse City, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005.
      Services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 10 a.m., at the Whinery-Savage Chapel in Elk City, Okla. Burial will be in the Garber Cemetery in Garber Okla., at 4 p.m. A memorial service will be held in Traverse City with the date to be announced in a later edition.
     
      SCOTT ALLEN HUNTING, 52, of Kalkaska, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at his home.
      Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 5 p.m., at the Wolfe Funeral Home, where visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of service.
      Arrangements are by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
     
      GARY L. MILLER, 59, of Fife Lake, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at his home.
      Visitation will be today, June 30, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Wolfe Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Garfield Township Cemetery.
      Arrangements are by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
     
      FRANCES D. RUSKIN, 83, of Bellaire and Bethel Park, Pa., died Saturday, June 25, 2005, in Pennsylvania.
      Military graveside services will be held Friday, July 1, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire.
      Arrangements are by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
     
Raymond C. Avery
Died June 26, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Raymond C. Avery, 78, of Traverse City, formerly of Kingsley, died Sunday morning, June 26, 2005, at Munson Medical Center.
      Born May 18, 1927, in Traverse City, he was the son the of late Guy I. and Aletha F. (Struble) Avery. On Aug. 2, 1952, in Charlevoix, he married the former Joan L. Hansen, who preceded him in death in 2001.
      Ray was a veteran of World War II and faithfully served his country with the United States Army.
      He was associated with Consumers Power Company and retired as a customer service supervisor after working 38 years.
      A private pilot, Ray enjoyed flying, hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and traveling.
      He is survived by his brother, Guy J. (B. Joann) Avery of Traverse City; sister, Gertrude Everson of Grawn; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Karen.
      In additional to his wife, Joan, Ray was also preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Wylie; and a nephew, David Everson.
      Private graveside services have been held at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City.

Martha Rose Dana
June 26, 2005
      OLD MISSION PENINSULA - Martha Rose Dana of the Old Mission Peninsula died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at the Indian Trail AFC in Traverse City.
      Born Oct. 5, 1908, in Old Mission, she was the daughter of Charles and Emma (Mlujeak) Dana. She was a graduate of Traverse City High.
      Martha worked for the City of Detroit, Welfare Dept., Registration Bureau. Later she was employed at the R.L. Polk Co., retiring in 1976.
      She had been a resident of the Old Mission Peninsula since 1979, and was an RSVP volunteer for several years in Traverse City.
      Surviving are one brother, Richard (Rose) Dana of Old Mission; a nephew, James (Pat) Ryckman of Old Mission; grandnieces; Kathy Bowers of Mayfield, Suzanne (Chris) Bouchey of Old Mission and Holly (Mike) Couturier of Old Mission; and a grandnephew, Dana (Wilma) Ryckman of Milan.
      Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Covey and Marion Ryckman; a nephew, Norman Covey; and a niece, Maxine Ryckman.
      Private family graveside services will be held at the Ogdensburg Cemetery on the Old Mission Peninsula.
      Memorials may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society or the Old Mission Congregation Church.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
Dhana (Lockhart) Elsenheimer
Died June 28, 2005
      KEWADIN - Dhana (Lockhart) Elsenheimer, 29, of Kewadin, formerly of Central Lake, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at Munson Medical Center.
      She was born Nov. 5, 1975, in Lansing, the daughter of Linda Shiveline and Will Lockhart.
      She was employed by Second Chance Body Armor in Central Lake for the past six years, where she was the national product manager.
      She resided in Central Lake most of her life, where she graduated as valedictorian from Central Lake High School in 1993. She was an outstanding athlete in softball, as well as basketball. Following high school, she went on to Central Michigan University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in 1997.
      She was a loving, devoted mother, daughter, aunt, sister and friend to many. She touched many lives in her short life and will be deeply missed by many.
      On June 15, 2002, in Elk Rapids, she married Todd Elsenheimer, who survives. Also surviving are her two beautiful twin babies, Aiden and Avery; mother, Linda (Larry Grise) Lockhart of Central Lake; father, Will Lockhart of Traverse City; twin sister, Shana (John) Kingma of Central Lake; brother, Damian (Jill Edwards) Lockhart of Grand Rapids; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
      Visitation will take place Friday, July 1, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m., at St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire. Pastor Ken Lein will officiate. Interment will take place in Southern Cemetery in Central Lake following services.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Aiden and Avery Elsenheimer College Fund, c/o Fifth Third Bank, 120 Ames St., Elk Rapids, MI 49629.
     
Wayne E. Hefflebower
Died June 28, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Wayne Edward Hefflebower, 68, a retired plumber of Kingsley, died on his birthday, June 28, 2005, at Munson Hospice House.
      Born June 28, 1937, in Hastings, he was the son of the late Floyd Henry and Ada Josephine (Fiedler) Hefflebower. On Aug. 4, 1956, in Lansing, he married the former L. Kay McGoldrick.
      Formerly of Grand Ledge, Wayne and his family have lived in the Grand Traverse area for 25 years. Wayne was a longtime member of Bayview Weslyan Church and a member of the Buckley Old Engine Club.
      The Hefflebowers enjoyed wintering in Phoenix, Ariz. Wayne was a loving husband, nurturing father and a caring grandfather. His quiet presence will be missed by many.
      He is survived by his wife, L. Kay Hefflebower of Kingsley; four daughters, Sondra (Ej) Gee of Interlochen, Diana (Drew) Elliott of Traverse City, Vicki Clayton of Kingsley and Tami (Tom) Pollock of Marion, Iowa; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lois (Cleo) Robyler of Branch, Evelyn Komrouse of Greenbush and Geraldine (Raymond) Jenks of Paris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      Funeral services will be held at Bayview Weslyan Church on Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 11 a.m., with Reverend Jack Steenbergh officiating. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home this evening, June 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, July 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Barnum Cemetery in Paradise Township, Grand Traverse County.
      In remembrance of Wayne , memorials may be directed to Bayview Weslyan Church Building Fund or to Munson Hospice House. Envelopes are available at either the funeral home or the church.
     
Ralph Edward Hott
Died June 27, 2005
      GRAWN - Ralph Edward Hott, 73, of Grawn, went peacefully home to the Lord from his residence on Monday, June 27, 2005. He was born Aug. 31, 1931, in Red Bank, N.J., the son of Lester and Olive (Underhill) Hott.
      Ralph lived in Detroit, then moved to Boyne City and attended Boyne City High School, where he was active in sports. He graduated from Davenport McLachlan Institute, receiving a degree in salesmanship.
      Ralph joined the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served on the U.S.S. Samuel B. Roberts as a Fire Control Technician-FT3 class.
      On Dec. 20, 1952, he married Shirley Moore of Washington D.C. Ralph married Sharon Randolph of Grawn on June 3, 1995.
      Ralph recently worked at West Junior High School in the luncheon program and volunteered as a student mentor. He was deeply loved and respected by the students.
      Ralph was an active member of the Grawn United Methodist Church, where he volunteered much of his time. He was a member of the VFW Lodge #2780.
      He was an avid fisherman and golfer and enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed cooking and canning from his garden. Ralph loved to garden and always grew enough to share.
      He is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Michael (Eileen) Hott; grandsons, Brandon and Justin Hott of Colleyville, Texas; stepsons, Scott of Traverse City and Jeffrey (Lisa) Randolph of Grawn; sisters, Betty Tuck and Olive (Bob) Westfall of Chase City, Va.; half brothers, Gary (Ann) Holdridge of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Wayne Holdridge of St. Louis; and many nieces and nephews.
      Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; and granddaughter, Tiffany Brown.
      Visitation will be held today, June 30, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A Service of Remembrance will be held Friday, July 1, 2005, at 1 p.m., at the Grawn United Methodist Church. The family would like to invite everyone to join them for a luncheon at the church following the service.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grawn United Methodist Church.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
Janice Joy Logan
Died June 27, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Mrs. Janice Joy Logan went to be with the Lord on the morning of Monday, June 27, 2005, after an eleven day battle for her life in the hospital.
      She was the loving and dedicated mother of Lisa and Jamie, who enjoyed travel, fishing, billiards, fine food, cocktails with friends and life in general.
      Her for friends and family are invited to an open house celebration of her life today, June 30, between 4 and 7 p.m., at her home. If you have any questions you may contact her son, Jamie, at 929-2984.

Richard L. "Rick" Stephenson
Died June 28, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Richard Lee Stephenson, 59, of Old Mission, formerly of Shelby Township, passed away Tuesday June 28, 2005, at his residence on the peninsula. Richard was born Jan. 8, 1946, in Brownsville, Pa.
      Rick, as he was known to his friends, worked many years in automotive design and also enjoyed auto racing. He was an avid pilot who took pleasure in watching the sunset over the bay. He even snapped the occasional photo. Rick also had a love for music and working on a carpentry project here or there.
      Rick is survived by his fiancée, Karen Brainard of Old Mission; aunt, Donas Gayle Stephenson; and two children, Scott and Shawn Stephenson.
      Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
      A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 3, 2005, at noon, at the Old Mission Congregational Church on the peninsula, with the Rev. Peter Shumar officiating.
