RICHARD W. HOUSE, 79, of Ludington, a former resident of Frankfort, died Monday, May 2, 2005, at the Memorial Medical Center of West Michigan in Ludington.
Memorial Services at 7 p.m. will be held Thursday, May 5, at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Ludington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until time of service. Cremation was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.

STEPHEN C. SPOOR, 56, of Traverse City, died following a short illness Saturday, April 30, at Munson Hospice House.

Kenneth Leon Beatty
Died April 29, 2005
TRAVERSE CITY - Kenneth Leon Beatty, 73, of Traverse City, passed away Friday, April 29, 2005, at Munson Medical Center.
Ken was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Grand Rapids. He was the son of Wayne and Cleo (Cady) Beatty. He graduated from Williamston High School in 1950. After beginning classes at Central Michigan College, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving in Japan and onboard the U.S.S. Princeton from 1951-55.
After his honorable discharge, Ken returned to CMC, receiving his B.S. (cum laude) in Political Science and American History. He also earned his Master of Arts in American History from Univeristy of Michigan.
On Feb. 18, 1956, Ken married Gloria Gorham in Angola, Ind. They lived in Grand Haven, where he taught high school for nine years.
In 1969, Ken moved his family to Interlochen, where he continued to teach for 26 years at the Interlochen Arts Academy. During this time he served as the Division Chair for the Liberal Arts Division from 1972-88. He retired in June of 1995.
Ken loved to fish and enjoyed hunting with his friends. He was an avid reader and watched many sports on television. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's many activities and functions. One of his favorite pastimes was visiting with his friends over lunch, especially at Hockey Heroes.
Ken is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gloria; daughters, Georgia (Victor) Geha and Julie (Guy) Osmun; grandchildren, Joshua, Amanda, Kara and Mathew; sisters-in-law, Rita Beatty and Pamela Lewis; and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, George, and his father and mother-in-law.
Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Biederman Center at Munson Medical Center or the Cherryland Humane Society.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the compassionate medical staff of Munson, especially those of 4 West.

Leola E. Bussa
Died May 1, 2005
ELK RAPIDS - Leola E. Bussa, 85, of Elk Rapids, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2005.
She was born Dec. 3. 1919, in Williamsburg to Burl and Clara (Reeves) Broomhead. Leola married Paul Edward Bussa Sept. 19, 1936. She was a true farmer's wife, always caring for others. Leola and her husband were foster parents to many children.
Leola enjoyed being an active member of the Yuba Women's Club and the Rebekahs, and a 4-H leader. She was an accomplished seamstress, crocheter and wedding cake maker. She made baby blankets for all of her family and friends, as well as doll dresses and sweaters.
Leola had a gift for making friends. There wasn't a place she'd go to and leave without making a new friend.
She is survived by a son, Edward (Charlene) Bussa of Lansing; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Bussa; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She will be missed by her family and many special friends.
Leola was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul in 1984; and her beloved son, Paul earlier this year.
Visitation will take place today, May 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the funeral home, with Dr. Kendale Dennis officiating. Burial will be in Yuba Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
Myrtle E. Fulton
Died May 1, 2005
CHARLEVOIX - Myrtle E. Fulton, 93, of Charlevoix, died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City. She was born Jan. 16, 1912, in Charlevoix, the daughter of Edward R. and Eva Belle (Hamlin) O'Neill.
Myrtle graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1929, and then from Harper Hospital School of Nursing in 1932, as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Harper Hospital until her marriage to Andrew Fulton Jr. on Oct. 16, 1937, in Charlevoix.
She returned to nursing in 1943, as a private duty nurse for doctor's offices in Detroit through 1966. She then began employment with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, until her retirement in 1977. She returned to Charlevoix that year to make her home.
Her husband, Andrew, preceded her in death in December of 1961.
Myrtle was a member of the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix, and its Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the Harper Hospital School of Nursing Alumni, a life member of the Charlevoix Historical Society, and the Charlevoix Area Hospital Guild.
Myrtle is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Marshall and Laurel O'Neill of Sault Ste. Marie and their sons, Patrick and Robert; nephew and his wife, Bruce and Patricia Hess of Traverse City and their son, Matthew; nephew and his wife, Edward and Susan O'Neill of Columbus, Ohio, and Charlevoix and their sons, Kevin, Brian and Justin; and her longtime dear friend, Loretta Conine of Charlevoix.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date, and interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix.

Lucile Ione Skinner
Died April 30, 2005
TRAVERSE CITY - Lucile Ione Skinner, 81, died April 30, 2005, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Lucile was the daughter of Daniel and Pauline (Folkman) Mackenzie, born March 7, 1924 in Bay City. She married William Skinner Aug. 28, 1943, in Bay City.
She enjoyed gardening and collecting cookbooks.
She is survived by her husband, William; niece, Leeann Long; nephews, James and Robert Mackenzie; and her brother, R. Webster (Diane) Mackenzie.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time.

Harold Hawkins Smith
Died April 28, 2005
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Harold Hawkins Smith, 83, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Cedar, died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at his home in Hilton Head.
Mr. Smith was born in Cleveland, Ohio, Dec. 17, 1921, the son of Nellie and W. Stanley Smith.
Mr. Smith received his bachelor's degree from Mount Union College and MBA from the University of Michigan. He received a Purple Heart for service in the Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Smith's career with Chrysler Corporation spanned three decades; he initiated computer technology at the corporate level.
Mr. Smith was an active member of the Hilton Head Island Rotary Club, First Presbyterian Church, University of Michigan Alumni Association, and Second Helpings. In northern Michigan, he was a member of the Leland United Methodist Church.
In Detroit, Mr. Smith was honored for 21 years of executive board service at the Northwestern YMCA. He was a trustee, treasurer, and Sunday School teacher at Saint Timothy's United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jane Morgan.
He is survived by their children, Sara Smith of Harbor Springs, Betsy (John) McLinden of Winnetka, Ill., and Jonathan Smith of Clarkston; and grandchildren, Bailey Smith and Sara Caroline, Jessica and Scott McLinden.
He is also survived by his wife, Harriet P. Smith; and his sisters, Mrs. Catherine Ferrell, Mrs. Merciel Doty and Mrs. Dorothy Brown.

Louise Bolitho Thompson
Died May 2, 2005
TRAVERSE CITY - Longtime resident Louise Bolitho Thompson passed away May 2, 2005, with her daughter Linda at her side at the Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.
She was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Manistique, the daughter of Thomas H. and Grace (Quick) Bolitho. Her maternal grandparents, John and Louise (Gunnarson) Quick were pioneer settlers of Manistique, with Grandmother Louise being a member of the first Swedish family arriving in 1870. Grandfather John arrived in 1871 to work for his half-brother, Martin Quick, head of the Chicago Lumber Company.
A graduate of Manistique High School, Louise was valedictorian of her class of 1934. She attended Rockford College for one year before transferring to the University of Michigan, graduating in 1938 with a B.A. degree. She then moved to Chicago, where the Chicago Tribune employed her in the advertising and public service department for five years.
On Oct. 14, 1939, she married Edwin J. "Tommy" Thompson in Manistique, a commercial artist in Chicago. In 1944, they moved to Manistique. He preceded her in death Jan. 6, 1998.
Active in the community, Louise served as president of the Manistique Women's Club, Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Community Concert committee and the Indian Lake Women's Golf League. A lifelong member of the golf club, she was women's golf club champion for several years. For 10 years she was the Vision and Hearing Technician for the Health Department. She was also a substitute teacher and part-time teacher for Manistique High School.
She was employed as Secretary-Treasurer of the A.S. Putnam & Company from 1976-85, when she and her husband became owners of A.S. Putnam & Company Pharmacy. They closed the store in 1985.
Louise had a lifelong love of music. Having a musical background beginning in Manistique, she maintained this interest at the Rockford College Choir and the University of Michigan Choral Union. She also sang in the Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer in Manistique for 40 years, where she also served as an elder and deacon, Sunday school teacher, and chairperson of the Presbyterian Guild. She became a Stephens Lay Minister in 1997. She joined the choir at The Presbyterian Church in Traverse City in October 2000, and became a member last year.
In 1989, Louise joined the first central committee of Project Petunia, becoming co-chairperson in 1991, and chairperson in 1992, where she served the next 10 years prior to moving to Traverse City Sept. 11, 2000. Other activities included being a member of the Academic Booster Club of Manistique High School, chairperson of the Manistique Housing Commission and secretary of the Indian Lake Golf and Country Club Memorial Foundation Board.
She is survived by her two sons, Gregory (Carole) Thompson of Traverse City and Gary Thompson of Lafayette, N.J.; two daughters, Stephanie of Rochester Hills and Linda (Gary) Fulmer of Traverse City; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nephews and a niece.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. T. Boyd (Roberta) Bolitho; and a nephew.
Memorial services will announced at a later date.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer Memorial Garden Fund in Manistique, the Manistique Area School Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Schoolcraft County Community Foundation, or The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.

Joseph Edward
Yanska Jr.
Died May 1, 2005
BUCKLEY - With his family by his side, angels took Joe, at 67, to be with his Lord on May 1, 2005, after a vigilant fight with cancer.
Born and raised in Buckley, Joe had many great passions. First and most important to him was his family, especially his grandchildren. Joe also loved to go fishing and "catch the big one," with his son, son-in-law and grandchildren. Being an avid hunter, Joe often spoke of his memorable times moose hunting with his good friend Roy Olk.
Not only did Joe enjoy the great outdoors, but he also cherished time making special woodworking projects for his grandchildren and his wife.
Joe was well-known and respected within the construction industry. He spent 27 years with Tezak Construction and then 15 years with Grand Traverse Construction, retiring in 2002. He continued his lifelong second job of arming despite his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Sr.; and two sisters who died in infancy.
Surviving Joe is his wife of 45 years, Patricia; daughter, Deborah Linderleaf and granddaughters Leslie and Colleen; daughter, Laurie (Michael) Thomas and granddaughter, Andrea; son, David Yanska and grandchildren, Zachary, Nathan and Abigail; and his youngest daughter, Tracy (Steve) Endres and grandchildren, Nicklas and Samantha Jo. Also surviving Joe is his mother, Anna Yanska; brothers, August (Lillian) Frank (Evelyn); sister, Diane (Arthur) Nickerson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will take place today, May 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley, with a 7:30 p.m. scripture service.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at St. Mary of Hannah Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Mary of Hannah Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Munson Hospice.
Joe wanted to give a special thanks to all of the nurses and doctors at Munson CCU and 4 West, and to all of the people who had touched his life. God bless.
