WALSH, 66, of Bellaire, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at his home. Visitation will be Monday, May 9, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, where a wake service will be held at 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at 11 a.m., at St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire. A full obituary will be in Monday's edition of the Record-Eagle. James Henry Weatherholt Died May 6, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - James Henry Weatherholt, 61, passed away Friday, May 6, 2005, at his home. He was born Aug. 8, 1943, in Traverse City, to Leo and Della (Hannah) Weatherholt. In June 1963, he graduated from St. Francis Catholic School in Traverse City. On Nov. 9, 1963, he married his beloved wife of 41 years, Connie Winowiecki. James attended two years of college at Besser Tech. He was a mason tender, fiberglass applicator, mechanic, carpenter, toolpusher on the oil rigs and a licensed certified nursing assistant at Grand Traverse Pavilions. James enjoyed fishing, woodworking, hunting, gardening, making and repairing guns and working on and building cars. He loved dancing. James is survived by his loving wife, Connie; children, Jamie (Sherri), Joseph (Brenda), Jeremy (Pam) and Connie Lin Weatherholt; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Cynthia, Caleb, Johnathon, Xavier, Taylor and Kori; several step-grandchildren; three brothers, Joe, Mike and Kneal; six sisters, Eddie, Francie, Nadine, Sylvia, Joanie and Vera; mother, Della; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Tomas; and daughter Debbra. A visitation will be held Monday, May 9, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Homes in Traverse City, where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at 10 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Homes of Traverse City. Marie E. Fifarek Died May 6, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Marie E. Fifarek, 96, known affectionately as Grandma Ree, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at her home. Born in Buckley on Nov. 4, 1908, she was the daughter of Nellie S. (Cornell) and James E. Cook. Following graduation from Buckley High School in 1926, she attended Ypsilanti Teacher's College, where she earned her teaching degree. She taught school in Empire for several years during the Depression, then worked at Milliken's until her marriage to William "Rocky" Fifarek in 1936. After her children were grown, Marie went back to Milliken's where she worked until her retirement in 1967. Following her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed many trips to Drummond Island to go perch fishing. A life member of the Daisy Chain, Marie was also a member of the Traverse City Women's Club and First Congregational Church. Marie loved to knit and made over 100 Christmas stockings for family, friends and the church bazaar. Everyone in her family had at least one of her many hand knit afghans. During her later years, she spent many hours reading. Marie is survived by her daughter, Mary (Jack) Monson; son, William (Judy) Fifarek; grandchildren, Malisa Monson and her husband, Keith Hayes, J. Kurt Monson, Christopher Fifarek, Joshua Fifarek, Bill (Aimee) Bowles, Stacie (Mitch) Van Kampen; great-grandchildren, William and Jordan Bowles, Austin, Alex and Hanna VanKampen; and many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1979; grandson, Nicholas Fifarek in 1992; brothers, Leslie and Dale Cook; and her sister, Leona Donnelly. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 9, 2005, at 1 p.m., in the Towne Chapel of First Congregational Church. The Rev. Gary Hogue will officiate. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at noon. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Margaret Mary Morrissey Died May 5, 2005 BLISSFIELD - Margaret Mary Morrissey, 90, of Blissfield, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2005, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian. She was born Jan. 24, 1915, in Deerfield, the daughter of Bert and Sarah (Duval) Iott. On June 20, 1942, she married Joseph A. Morrissey at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1981. Margaret was a homemaker for most of her life, though she did work as an in-house caregiver to many elderly folks in this area, and also cared for many foster children through the years. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Owosso, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield and St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blissfield. Margaret was also very active with the Bliss-Liewert Senior Citizens Center in Blissfield. Her favorite pastimes were playing cards and camping, and she loved to travel to Traverse City to spend time with her grandchildren. Margaret is survived by her son, Robert (Carolyn) Morrissey of Traverse City; two grandchildren, Michael and Megan Morrissey, also of Traverse City; brother, Robert (Marjorie) Iott of Blissfield ; and sister, Catherine DeCocker of Deerfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; and eight siblings, Sister Florin Iott, Sister Viola Iott, Sister Marie Ruth Iott, Emil "Pete" Iott, Orville "Rip" Iott, Herman Iott, John Iott and Ruth Iott. Visitation will be held today, May 8, 2005, from 2 to 9 p.m., at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services for Margaret will be held on Monday, May 9, 2005, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blissfield, with Fr. Martin Iott O.P. officiating. Burial will take place in St. Paul's Cemetery in Owosso following the service at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Robert W. "Bob" Shockley Died May 6, 2005 SAGINAW TOWNSHIP - Robert W. "Bob" Shockley, 54, of Saginaw Township, passed away suddenly Friday afternoon, May 6, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center-Harrison. Robert Wayne Shockley was born April 18, 1951, in Lexington, Mich., to the late Richard F. and Alta I. (Dresser) Shockley. Bob owned and operated Shockley Productions. He was also a member of the Germania Town and Country Club. Bob enjoyed golf, fishing, boating, music and spending time with family and friends. Surviving are two sons and their spouses, Michael (Jennifer) Shockley of Elk Rapids and Dan (Alison) Shockley of Birmingham; one grandson, Declan Shockley of Elk Rapids; two sisters, Pam (Bob) Zawacki of Southgate and Doris (Curtis) Garner of Killeen, Texas; a special cousin, Bonnie Turner; best friend, Connie Day; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by one brother, Richard A. Shockley. Kristen Marie (Brant) Hawkins Died May 4, 2005 BENZIE COUNTY - On May 4, 2005, Kristen Brant Hawkins passed away in Benzie County. Kris was born Sept. 21, 1957, in Fairborn, Ohio, and was baptized at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, Ill., where she was a student. She was a graduate of DePauw University in 1979 with a double major in science and elementary education. On Feb. 4, 1985, she married Steven J. Hawkins of Benzonia, and they celebrated 20 years together. Kris had a special love for northern Michigan. She was inspired by her goods friends, Jim and Mollie Rogers, to contribute to the Crystal Lake area by pursuing a career as a builder of fine homes, which she did for 20 years. She loved nature and the out-of-doors in every season. Family and good friends will remember her pie baking, gardening, her love of discussions around the dining room table, and her new joy as a member of First Church of Christ Scientist. She was a reflection of her faith. Kris is survived by her husband, Steve; parents, Richard and Helen Brant of Leland; two brothers, Eric (Kim) Brant of Leland and Mark (Tracy) Brant of Bay Village, Ohio; and two nephews, Andrew and Matthew Brant. There will be a public visitation Monday, May 9, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes. A private family service will be held. Round, 93, of Cleveland, Ga., and formerly of Traverse City, died Nov. 8, 2004, at New Horizons North Nursing Center in Gainesville, Ga. Born in Traverse City on Nov. 17, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Joseph William and Margaret Clune Perkett. Mrs. Round was a homemaker, and was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Clifford Round; and a daughter, Ruth Anne Bloom. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and William Hudson of Cleveland, Ga.; a daughter, Nancy Fisher of Amargosa Valley, Nev.; and son-in-law, Richard Bloom of Ventura, Calif. Also surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Lee Fisher of Apple Valley, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 14, at 2 p.m., at Oakwood Cemetery (follow yellow cones), with the Rev. Fr. D. Edward Emenhieser officiating. The family is being served by The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Nancy J. Fisher Died December 10, 2004 AMARGOSA VALLEY, Nev. - Nancy J. Fisher, 63, of Amargosa Valley, Nev., died Dec. 10, 2004, in Las Vegas. Born May 2, 1937, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of Clifford William and Louise Perkett Round. She worked as property manager at the Yucca Mountain Nevada Nuclear Repository Test Site prior to her retirement. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Teresa Curtright; son, Ross Curtright; daughter, Cari Everett; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Sally and William Hudson of Cleveland, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ruth Anne Bloom. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 14, at 2 p.m., at Oakwood Cemetery (follow yellow cones), with the Rev. D. Edward Emenheiser officiating. David Charles Ray Died May 4, 2005 CENTRAL LAKE - David Charles Ray, 64, of Central Lake, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 3, 1940, in Allegheny Township in Pennsylvania, the son of Walter H. and Jennie K. Ray. Dave was raised in Vandergrift, Pa., and was the youngest of four children. Dave joined the army in 1958 and served for six years. In 1961, he became the father of twins, Cheri and Tom. Dave always loved his children and was a good father to them. In 1972, Dave and first wife, Linda Myers, divorced and remained friends. On Dec. 5, 1987, Dave married Linda Ebeling in Birmingham. Dave and Linda purchased a summer home on Intermediate Lake in 1986. The couple became full time residents of Central Lake in 1998. Dave was the owner and CEO of George Instrument Company, Dave Ray and Associates, GIC Thermodynamics, Custom Wiring Harnesses and Design of Mine, with offices in both Royal Oak and Central Lake. Dave served on the board of directors of the Detroit Rescue Mission, along with the Wildwood Ranch. In 1990, he established Core Ministries, a 501c3 organization that publishes and distributes a quarterly newspaper to most jails and prisons across the country. Dave also authored many books and was most proud of his parent-teen book titled "The Teens Clinic." Dave's love for the Lord and his passion for God's people was his driving force throughout his later years. Dave was a loving husband to Linda Ebeling Ray, who survives with their three faithful companions, Tilly, Spencer and Disney. Also surviving are his two children, Thomas Arthur (Diane) Ray of Central Lake and Cheri Ray (Mark) Johnson of Lake Orion; grandson, Joshua David Johnson; granddaughter, Christine Lynn Johnson; mother, Jennie Kaye Ray of Murrysville, Pa.; father-in-law, James F. Ebeling of Central Lake; sister, Shirley A. (Dom) Gardetto of Murrysville, Pa.; brothers, Herbert L. (Sydney) Ray of Saltsburg, Pa., and Walter S. (Clare) Ray of Lake City, Fla.; uncle, Fred (Mary Lou) Reedy; aunts, Erma Kolcun and Martha Bentley; mother of Tom and Cheri, Linda Myers of Bellaire; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews. Dave will be terribly missed. Preceding him in death was his father, Walter H. Ray. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 11, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Thursday and Friday from noon until 8 p.m., at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, 2333 S. Main St., Central Lake, MI; 544-3600. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m., at the Central Lake Bible Baptist Church, 1040 North M-88. Pastor Thomas Hunter and Pastor Jerry Troyer will officiate.
