Obituaries

OTIS EDWARD MOYER SR., 76, of Grawn, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 13, 2005, at Munson Medical Center.
      Visitation will be held Monday, May 16, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home, with Pastor Robert Cholette officiating. Interment will be in the Champion Hill Cemetery. A full obituary will be in Monday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
      The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
     
      JAMES W. "JIM" SCHROEDER, 57, of Acme, died Saturday, May 14, 2005.
      A full obituary will be in a later edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are pending at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      DAVID E. VESEY, 55, of Montclair, N.J., and a summer resident of Watervale, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005.
      Graveside services were held Friday, May 13, 2005, at the Blaine Township Cemetery.

Died September 2, 1999
      EMPIRE - Willard J. "Bill" Barratt, 87, of Glen Lake, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. Bill was born Sept. 5, 1917, in Paradise Township the son of Leon and Laura (Burfiend) Barratt.
      Bill and his wife, Doraldeane "Deany" moved to the Glen Lake area from Blissfield, where Deany was raised. Bill and Deany were married in Blissfield in 1956. Deany preceded her loving husband in death on Sept. 2, 1999.
      Bill worked many years as a contractor, owning and operating W. J. Barratt Construction. Bill was also proud to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard, and then with the Michigan State Police. In later years, Bill served as a zoning administrator for Glen Arbor.
      In his spare time, Bill enjoyed fishing and boating, as well as his membership in the Empire Masonic Lodge #597 and the Lions Club of Empire.
      Bill and Deany are survived by two sons, Thomas (Sue) Barratt of Salem, Ore., and Michael (Anita) Barratt of Bloomfield Hills; one daughter, Sharon "Toni" (Lowell) White of Eatonton, Ga.; and his brother, Jack (Lucille) Barratt of Maple City.
      Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Deany; his parents; and a younger brother, Robert H. Barratt.
      Deany was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Lucy (Davis) Seeburger; a sister, Alberta Petee; and a brother, Joseph "Buss" Seeburger.
      Per the families' request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service commemorating Bill and Deany's life will be held at the Empire United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 28, 2005, at 11:30 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. William Dye will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall. Friends may also call the evening of May 27, at the Barratt residence.

      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
Mildred "Millie" Hattie Eshelman
Died May 12, 2005
      KEWADIN - On Thursday, May 12, 2005, Millie left this earthly world to join her Father in Heaven. She was the youngest of eight children born to Karl and Margareta Riess in Beaver Township in Bay County, on Oct. 13, 1918.
      Millie is survived by her husband of 68 years, George W. Eshelman; their three children, Connie Slack of Reston, Va., Mary Ann Asmus of Traverse City and Kenneth Eshelman of Interlochen. She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
      Millie was a life-long giver of care to her family and friends. She found joy in making beautiful things with her many talents. She was an excellent cook, gardener, seamstress, wife and mother. Millie died peacefully in her home of 30 years on Grand Traverse Bay.
      Visitation will be held Monday, May 16, 2005, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon, at the Calvary Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Mellor will officiate. Burial services will take place Tuesday May 17, 2005, at Floral Gardens Cemetery in Bay City.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
John Robert Walter IV
Died February 20, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - John Robert Walter IV, three month old infant, died Feb. 20, 2005, at Munson Medical Center.
      Baby John was born Nov. 17, 2004, to John Robert Walter III and Billy Jo Ewing. John Robert Walter IV is also survived by his grandparents, John (Nora) Walter II; great-grandmother, Norma Huddleston; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
      Burial will take place Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at 3:30 p.m., at the Inland Township Cemetery.
      Arrangements are by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
