Obituaries

      ANNA KRYSIAK, 87, of Manistee, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
      The family will receive friends this evening, Oct. 5, 2005, at the Johnson Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Thursday, Oct. 6, one hour prior to the service. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, at 11 a.m., at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Manistee.

      ROBERT JAY SERVIS SR., 67, of Grayling, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005.
      No services are planned at this time.
      Arrangements are by the Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.

      THELMA "JACKIE" THOMPSON, 87, of Frankfort, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at Paul Oliver Long Term Care Facility.
      Funeral arrangements are pending. A full obituary will be in Thursday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Frankfort Chapel of McElduff-Jowett Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
     
Cathy G. Keedy
Died October 3, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Cathy G. Keedy, 52, of Traverse City, died suddenly Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. Cathy was born in Oak Park on Jan. 8, 1953, the daughter of Harris and Geraldine (Ginsburg) Garrick.
      She graduated from West Bloomfield High School in 1971 and attended Michigan State University. On March 1, 1975, she married James A. Keedy, her loving husband of 30 years, in the Newman Chapel at Wayne State University in Detroit.
      Cathy worked for Great Lakes Bancorp for 15 years as a branch manager in Jackson, and for branches in Ann Arbor and Traverse City.
      After retiring, Cathy devoted many hours of volunteer work for a number of local organizations, most recently Michigan Indian Legal Services in Traverse City, full-time for the last two years. In the past she volunteered for the Cherryland Humane Society, the Volunteer Services Office of the Grand Traverse County Probate Court and Cedar Wildlife Rescue. She gave countless hours to rescuing and caring for animals in need and to loving her own dogs and cats.
      Cathy will be remembered as a warm and generous woman who listened with her heart, making family and friends feel loved and well-cared for when they were in her company. Her vibrancy for life and her gift of giving will continue on through others thanks to her gift of organ donation through the Gift of Life Program.
      Cathy is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Jim, whom she met at Michigan State University in the fall of 1971. She is also survived by her stepmother, Patricia Garrick of Highland; sisters, Cheryl Coash of Pottstown, Penn., and Lisa (Ron) Juopperi of Waterford; brothers, Ronald (Ellen) Garrick of West Bloomfield and Jeffrey Garrick of Lansing. Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Regina Keedy of Wyandotte; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Joe) Orzechowski of Dearborn Heights, Betty Jean Sawicki of Wyandotte and Janice (Doug) Adams of Lincoln Park; brothers-in-law, Daniel (Kathleen) Keedy of Haslett and John (Deborah) Keedy of Ypsilanti. Twenty-five nieces and nephews, whom she showered with love, gifts and insect lore, also survive.
      Visitation will take place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home this evening, Oct. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Thursday, Oct. 6, one hour preceding the funeral service. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, also at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with Rabbi Chava Bahle officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mary McCarthy
Died October 3, 2005
      COPEMISH - Mary McCarthy, 77, of Copemish, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      She was born May 17, 1928, in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of Joseph and Marie Bella (Petitpas) Doody.
      Mary had been employed at Crystal Mountain Resort as a bartender for 30 years, until her retirement in 1992. In addition to being at work, Mary enjoyed having sing-a-longs with family and friends.
      On April 11, 1946, in San Bernardino, Calif., Mary married Francis Dale McCarthy, who survives. She is also survived by five children, Dale Michael McCarthy of San Antonio, Texas, Helen (Gordon) Wells of Muskegon, Nancy Hull of Colorado, Debra (Mike) Townsend of Kaleva, and Denise (Garry) Brotherton of Kaleva; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Helen Benson of Escondido, Calif.
      Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and a granddaughter in infancy
      Graveside committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Cleon Township Cemetery in Copemish.
      The Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva is in charge of arrangements.
