Obituaries

      LOTTIE L. COUNCILOR, 90, of Mancelona, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
      Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Antrim Church of Christ in Mancelona, where visitation and a luncheon will take place from noon until service time.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

      WAYNE FRANSON, 72, of Frankfort, died at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Richard and Joanne Brown of Crystal Lake Township.
      Services will be held at a later date.
      Frankfort Chapel of McElduff-Jowett Funeral Home and Cremation Service are in charge of the arrangements.

      EVELYN A. SCHROEDER BARNES, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Visitation will take place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Friday, Oct 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
      Funeral services will take place Saturday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Lake Ann United Mehodist Church.

      MARY D. STEINECKER, 91, of Kalkaska, formerly of Detroit, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Visitation will take place today, Thursday, Oct. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
      Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at St. Mary of the Woods Church, where Ms. Steinecker will lie in state from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Coldsprings Twp. Cemetery.
      Arrangements are being handled by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.
     
Harriet Agnes Ackerman
Died October 4, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Harriet Agnes Ackerman, 86, of Traverse City, formerly of Grand Rapids, died Oct. 4, 2005, under the care of Hospice at her home, with her family by her side.
      She was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Columbus , Ohio, to John and Sophia (Pulenski) Streamer.
      Harriet devoted 54 years of marriage to her loving husband, Meyers C. Ackerman. She loved her home and family. With a kind, gentle, generous heart, she gave quietly to many in need.
      She is survived by her husband, Meyers C. Ackerman; two daughters, Roberta Ann Walker and Melanie T. (Larry) Ackerman; brother-in-law, Dan (Vivian) Kelley of Williamsburg, Va.; and sister-in-law, Maxine (Dale) Miller of Westerville, Ohio.
      Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Chester, Ralph and Robert; and a sister, Felicia.
      A visitation will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home this evening, Thursday, Oct. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary.
      Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, preceded by a one hour visitation at the funeral home, with Rev. Fr. William Lipscomb officiating.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation.

Dudley F. Straubel
Died September 27, 2005
      HOMOSASSA Fla. - Dudley F. Straubel, 89, of Homosassa Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at his home. Dudley was born in Frankfort on June 14, 1916, the son of Albert F. and Lucy M. (Bellinghausen) Straubel.
      He retired from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft of St. Louis, Mo., in research and management. During World War II, he worked for Dow Chemical at M.I.T. and developed the first aircraft radar housing. He was an avid bridge player and golfer. He moved to Florida 24 years ago from Hampton, N.H. After retirement he enjoyed furniture restoration.
      He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy B. Straubel.
      He is survived by two sons, Robert J. Straubel of Salisbury, Mass., and John H. Straubel of Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa; one daughter, Lucy S. Berry of Sheboygan Wis.; one brother, Albert F. Straubel of Holly Hill, Fla., five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Thelma "Jackie" Thompson
Died October 4, 2005
      FRANKFORT - Thelma "Jackie" Thompson, 87, of Frankfort, passed away peacefully on Oct. 4, 2005, at Paul Oliver Hospital after an extended illness. Thelma was born in Frankfort on May 9, 1918, the daughter of Grant and Hope (Keilor) Stratton.
      Jackie graduated from Frankfort High School and lived in Benzie County most of her life. A professional cook for many years, Jackie worked in restaurants and private residences. Her flair and enthusiasm for great cooking was only surpassed by her love of animals, especially horses. She taught riding lessons at Camp Crystalaire and especially enjoyed mentoring local girls in horsemanship.
      After the death of her husband, John R. Thompson, in 1980, Jackie built her dream home - a house/barn combination on Grace Road where she could be close to her beloved Arabian horses.
      She is survived by sons Paul Gilroy of Wilson, Wy, Robert (Teresa) Jeffs, his daughters Rebecca, Darcy, Megan Jeffs, Steven (Martha) Jeffs and their son, Patrick and Amelia Gilroy, daughter of Greg.
      In addition to her husband, Jackie was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Grant "Bud" Stratton, Ray "Nub" Stratton and Dale "Turp" Stratton, and son Greg Gilroy.
      There will be a visitation at McElduff-Jowett Funeral Home in Benzonia at 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m.
