Arrangements will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. J.D. Mann Died October 6, 2005 BELLAIRE - J.D. Mann, 16, of Bellaire, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 in Bellaire. He was born on Nov. 26, 1988 in Traverse City, the son of John and Trudy (Brown) Mann. J.D. was a junior at Bellaire High School, where he was active in football, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed judo, bowling and video games, and was an avid fan of Michigan State University. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Eva Mann; his maternal grandfather, Donald Brown; and uncle Robert Brown. He is survived by his parents; sister Elisabeth Mann of Bellaire; uncle Walt and aunt Rhonda Mann of Bellaire; uncle Thomas (Sherry) Mann of Ellsworth, aunt Donna Green of Lansing; maternal grandmother Janet Koloski (Wayne Feneley) of Traverse City; a step-grandmother Carolyn Brown of Central Lake; a great-grandmother Leona Zanner of Traverse City; and several cousins. A visitation will take place on Sunday, Oct. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Funeral services will take place on Monday, Oct. 10, in the Bellaire High School gymnasium at 4 p.m. Rev. Dallas Powell will officiate. Robert "Chris" Townsend Died October 5, 2005 SUTTONS BAY - Robert "Chris" Townsend, 47, of Suttons Bay, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005. Chris was born in Durand on Oct. 20, 1957, the son of Russell and Mary (Duda) Townsend. Chris had a love for the outdoors and nature, which he shared with others by being an advocate for moderate consumption and preservation. Chris got outside and enjoyed his surroundings by cycling, cross-country skiing, boating and fishing. He always found time to take pleasure in the simple things such as the changing of the seasons and was able to live for the moment. Chris was a positive and tolerant friend to many and was always willing to help out. Chris had no greater love than for his family, friends and the times they shared together. Chris is preceded in death by his brother, Daniel. Chris is survived by his parents Russell and Mary; two daughters, Alita Townsend of Traverse City, Kriya Townsend of Eugene, Oregon; a step-daughter, Gaia Nesvacil of San Francisco, Calif.; a brother, Richard (Peggy) Townsend of Traverse City; a niece; Ann Townsend of Minneapolis, Minn.; an uncle, Clinton Townsend of Linden, and many other loving family members and friends. Per the family's request, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held at Saturday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Rev. Father James Hayden and Rev. Father Mike Verschaeve presiding. A visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Genesee County. Daisy Died October 2, 2005 WATERFORD - Doug L. Daisy, 32, of Waterford, formerly of Traverse City, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005. Doug was a born in Grand Rapids, on February 24, 1973, the son of George and Patricia (Schram) Daisy Sr. Doug was a down to earth person with a generous heart, who dearly loved his family and friends. He was a graduate of Our Lady of the Lakes and a proud Laker. He enjoyed life, took delight in playing golf, fishing and spending time with family. He will be sorely missed, but will forever live on in heaven, and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his parents; brothers, Mark (Andrea), Terry (Marty), Father George Daisy, Dr. Chris Daisy (Heather); many beloved nieces and nephews. A visitation will take place an hour prior to funeral services on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 9:30 a.m. A funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Burton, Father George R. Velma Dorothy Runyon Died October 6, 2005 EAST LANSING - Velam Dorothy Runyon, 93, died Oct. 6, 2005. Velma was born in Litchfield, Neb., on June 10, 1912. Velma loved to garden, read and travel on mission trips. She volunteered for Child Evangelism Fellowships, Christian Resource Mission and World Gospel Mission. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald L. Runyon, and son, John P. Runyon. She is survived by five daughters, Dorothy (Frank) Loverdiere of Lansing, Pat Nichols of East Lansing, Ruth Becker of East Lansing, Nancy (Ron) Cornell of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Martha Runyon of Lansing; one son, Gerald E. (Barb) Runyon of Lansing; 26 grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren. A visitation will take palce on Sunday, Oct. 9, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel in East Lansing. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. at Faith Bible Church in Lansing, with Pastor Gene Harris officiating. Graveside services will be held that afternoon at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood Township, with the Pastor James Patipas officiating. Contributions can be made to the Children's Evangelism Fellowships or Great Lakes Hospice in memory of Velma Runyon. Esther F. Brigham Died, October 6, 2005 GRAWN - Esther F. Brigham, 94, of Duck Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 at Munson Hospice House. Esther and her twin sister, Gertrude, were born in Chicago, on Sept. 20, 1911, the daughters of William and Minnie (Lane) Barhyte. Esther attended the University of Buffalo following her graduation from high school. Later, she studied at the music conservatory in Milwaukee. She married Julian Wesley Brigham on June 19, 1937, in Buffalo N.Y. She was a talented musician and the staff pianist for WBEN radio in Buffalo. She taught at Stranahan's vocal studio in Buffalo and also was an accomplished arranger and accompanist, accompanying many celebrities over the years. She also taught piano for 50 years from the studio in her home. Esther was an accomplished organist, playing the pipe organ for churches in the various communities in which she and Julian lived. Esther and Julian purchased a cottage at Duck Lake where they spent summers until moving there permanently in 1985. They became members of First Congregational Church in Traverse City and Esther was a 50-year member of the PEO. Esther is survived by her husband of 68 years, Julian Wesley Brigham; her son, Kent, and his wife, Jane Ann Brigham; grandchildren Glen (Jonna) Brigham and Kelly (Dan) Lynk; great grandchildren Katie Barber, Scott and Caroline Brigham and Justin, Jillian and Jessica Lynk, all of Kalamazoo. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, by her twin sister, Gertrude Grefe, and her twin sisters, Dorothy Smith and Doris Clarke. A visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at First Congregational Church on Monday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Gary Hogue will officiate and music will be a gift of Michael Coonrod. Burial will take place in Monroe Center Cemetery at a later date. Esther has been cremated in accordance with her wishes. Zahn, 75, of Traverse City, formerly of Ann Arbor, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 at Munson Hospice House. Clarence was born in Ann Arbor on January 15, 1930, the son of Clarence F. and Leona H. (Schalk) Zahn. Clarence married Shirley Hawes on February 11, 1956, in Ann Arbor. He was an avid collector of antique lore and member of the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; one son, Steven E. Zahn of Florida; one daughter, Cynthia (Daniel) Wolfe of Howell; one brother, Ivan (Martha) Zahn of Interlochen; two brothers-in-law, Alan E. Hawes of Ann Arbor and Robert (Judy) Hawes of Kingston; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; two nephews; and one niece. No services are planned. Memorials may be directed to Munson Hospice House at 550 Munson Ave., Traverse City MI, 49684. Arraignments have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
