Obituaries

      MILDRED J. DAVEY, 94, of Elk Rapids, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 26, 2005, at Bortz Health Care of Traverse City.
      Funeral arrangements are pending at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.

      PERRY H. DAYS, 83, of Kingsley, passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at his home.
      A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Evergreen Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell-Smith Funeral Home of Kingsley.

      BETTY PERRIN, 59, of Fife Lake, died at her home Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005.
      Visitation will take place this evening, Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.
      Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home.

      BARBARA SEXTON, 72, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at her South Boardman home.
      Visitation will take place Friday, Sept. 30, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
      Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Boardman Twp. Cemetery.

      LAURA 'FERN' STEELE, 91, formerly of Fife Lake, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, in Midland.
      Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at the home of Sandy and Serge Mann of Fife Lake at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9.

      Memorial services for LOUISE BOLITHO THOMPSON, who passed away May 2, 2005, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at The Presbyterian Church, Traverse City.
      Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
     
Gregory Alexander Young
Died September 25, 2005
      TRAVERSE CITY - Gregory Alexander Young of Traverse City died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005. Greg was born in Wixom on Oct. 2, 1956, the son of John O. Young and Beatrice H. Willis.
      Greg is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Linda Lee Harris-Young, and their two children, Jonathan Gregory and Jennifer Leigh, both at home. He is also survived by their three special children, Phillipp Kuhn of Frankfurt, Germany, and Marcela and Carlos Buitrago of Buga, Colombia.
      Other survivors include his sister, Denise A. (Stanley) Kanaziz of Mancelona; bothers, Scott A. (Leslie) and Todd O. of Traverse City; nephews, Jason Ackerman of Mancelona and Jordan Young, and niece, Claire, both of Traverse City; and his mother-in-law, Kathleen (Kuepfer) Harris of Traverse City.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and John, and a brother, Kirk E. Young, all of Traverse City.
      Besides his wife and children, Great Danes, fast cars, fast boats and fast motorcycles, Greg's passion in life had always been flying. Greg was a graduate of Northwestern Michigan College's Aeronautical Engineering program, and also attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.
      A former flight instructor for NMC, Greg mastered an ever-expanding fleet of aircraft, including many small aircraft and the DeHaviland DHC6. He was Captain of both the McDonnell-Douglas DC9 and Boeing B747, traveling the globe since 1989 working for Evergreen International Airlines and Polar Air, bringing home stories of far-away adventures to share with family and friends. Polar Air named one of its B747 aircraft "Gregory A. Young" in his honor. Greg had flown for Northwest Airlines since 1994, and at the time of his death was enjoying flying the Airbus A320 as First Officer.
      A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday evening, Sept. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
      In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cherryland Humane Society. Please tell your loved ones how much you love them today; you don't always get tomorrow.
