Manistee drug bust nets 46 arrests
MANISTEE, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities Friday arrested 46 people and seized marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and a variety of prescription drugs during raids in three northwest Michigan counties.
The raids followed a three-month investigation and were conducted by four teams of local, county and state police in Manistee, Oceana and Mason counties.
In Manistee County alone, 16 people were arrested on charges including possession of marijuana; delivery of marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, methadone, Oxycontin and Ritalin; and furnishing contraband to prisoners in jail.
As of noon Friday, authorities in Manistee County were searching for five other suspects for whom warrants had been authorized, the News Advocate reported.
"We took (into custody) a lot of individuals who were dealing narcotics at a street level, that were a nuisance to our neighborhoods and communities in various parts of our county, and within the city of Manistee," Sheriff Dale Kowalkowski said. "We're just happy to put some of those people out of business."
