Ari Emanuel thinks before answering a question during Tuesday’s panel discussion, “What’s Up Hollywood,” at the Traverse City Film Festival. Ari Emanuel is Michael Moore's agent and the agent who Jeremy Piven's character is modeled after on HBO's "Entourage." He has urged on a blog that Hollywood "professionally shun" and refuse to work with actor Mel Gibson because of Gibson's well-publicized anti-Semitic comments during a drunken driving arrest. Emanuel spoke briefly with Record-Eagle staff writer Tom Carr following Tuesday's Traverse City Film Festival panel discussion. Record-Eagle: What kind of flak have you gotten for the (blog entry), I guess that's been quite controversial since you posted that. Ari Emanuel: I actually have been on vacation. I haven't actually looked at any of the flak I've gotten — or not. RE: Do you think it's going to be difficult for Mel Gibson to work in Hollywood now? AE: I have no idea. RE: You were talking about fighting with Disney to get "Fahrenheit 9/11" released to the public. Have you had fights like this for other films? AE: Well, Michael talked about the fights we had on F 9/11, but no I haven't had any other fights like the one on "Fahrenheit 9/11." RE: Do you think there are enough people in Hollywood who are willing to fight for a film that might be controversial? AE: Yes I do. RE: Have you seen that happening with other films? AE: A lot of representatives and a lot of artists fight for their films, so that was just a particular situation. RE: Where do agents fit on the scale of best-loved professionals? AE: Well, you'd have to take a vote from other people. I have no idea. I know my family and my wife and my kids love me.
