Video postcard from Mackinac IslandBoy co-stars on PBS show with cartoon rabbitMACKINAC ISLAND Lou Clark has made his national TV acting debut opposite a cartoon rabbit. Clark, 10, a Mackinac Island resident, appears in an upcoming episode of "Postcards from Buster, an Emmy-nominated PBS children's series that mixes animation with live footage. He delivered much of his dialog talking to a cutout of the main character Buster duct-taped to the handle of a camera. "It was kind of weird, he said of the interactions with Buster, a spin-off character from the popular children's book series and television series, "Arthur. But it was an enjoyable challenge for someone who likes acting and has made several movies with his friend Scott Roguska, who now lives in Naples, Fla. The episode featuring him, his friends and family on the island debuted locally on WCMU on Monday, Dec. 4, and is scheduled to repeat on Tuesday, Dec. 26 at 5 p.m. The episode was filmed in February when Mackinac Island was covered in snow, and largely deserted aside from the people who live there year-round. Producers of the show chose to do an episode showing how children spend the winters there. The program travels around North America to showcase how children's lives vary. "We're committed to showing different kids and to show the diversity that's inherent in our society and in kids' culture, said Mary Beth LeFaivre, publicist for the series, which is produced for public broadcasting at WGBH in Boston. Clark said he knows his life is different from most people his age: living on a landmark island that bustles with tourists in the summer, doesn't allow cars on its streets and has a downtown that is nearly deserted in the winter. "I haven't seen any tourists in maybe a month, Clark said in a recent phone interview. About 500 people live there year-round. Buster's Web site, pbskids.org/buster, also features information about Mackinac Island.
