Let's do lunch

Boone's a local favorite

Restaurant: Boone's Prime Time Pub

Address: 102 N. St. Joseph, Suttons Bay (GET MAP)

Phone: 231-271-6688

Cuisine & Setting: Boone's Prime Time has long been a favorite eatery for locals and vacationers in Suttons Bay. From its quintessential stone and log cabin look to the selection of steak and seafood dishes, the Prime Time Pub says, "relax, you're up north." Lunch and dinner is served daily by a friendly staff. Pick a table in the upper floor dining area, or enjoy your favorite libation at the polished wood bar. Cozy booths with a view of M-22 entering Suttons Bay are available in the lower level by a stone fireplace. You'll be surrounded by people enjoying lively conversation and good food. Come early as the summer crowds flock to Leelanau.

The ownership of Boone's Prime Time is new, but they have preserved the popular menu items that have pleased guests for years. The seafood choices include Walleye, Shrimp, Fresh catch Whitefish (a must try!), Cod, and Perch, priced at $16 to $19. Beef lovers will enjoy the generous Porterhouse steaks,

T-bones, and Filet Mignon, offered for $20-$24

The star feature on the sandwich menu is the famous ½ lb. Boone Burger. Side dishes include fries, wings, clams, fried mushroom and cauliflower, potato skins, onion rings, and cheese sticks, priced at $2.50 to $7.

Ask your server about the delicious dessert options which include fresh baked pies. Boone's offers a nice selection of local and imported wines, and also domestic, imported, and local microbrew beers to compliment your meal.

My selection:

Meat and potato lovers will enjoy Boone's Steak sandwich, a char-grilled steak served on a slice of Texas toast for $13.95. For a side I chose the cottage fries (skip the ketchup and sprinkle the fries with malt vinegar, mmm.) My spouse thoroughly enjoyed one of the nightly specials, fried cod with a baked potato and house salad for $10.95. (Specials are listed on a board in the upper level area.) Though the restaurant was packed, the service was friendly and fast. Good food, friendly service, in a casual northern Michigan cabin - that's Boone's Prime Time Pub.
