Elkins sentenced to 15 months in prison

TRAVERSE CITY - A Traverse City man whose girlfriend died in a collision with a driver who allegedly was under the influence of marijuana will go to prison for selling cocaine.
Randy Dean Elkins, 34, was sentenced Friday to at least 15 months in prison by 13th Circuit Court Judge Thomas Power after pleading guilty to selling cocaine to an undercover officer and maintaining a drug house.
Elkins was driving a car with his four daughters and girlfriend, Angela Grierson, when it was hit by a vehicle driven by Delores Derror on M-72 in January 2004.
Grierson was killed in the crash. Elkins' four daughters were all injured.
Traverse City attorney Gerald Chefalo said the accident set off an emotional time for Elkins, who started using and selling cocaine from his home.
"I did wrong," Elkins told Power. "I got in with some bad people."
