Blues rout NMU 45-7

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse Bay Blues Rugby Club opened their season with a 45-7 victory over Northern Michigan University on Saturday.

Led by the family defensive efforts of Creighton, Elliott and Jordan Gallagher and Mike and Ben Amon, the Blues held the Moosemen scoreless until the final 10 minutes.

Griffin Benson led all scorers with 11 points (4 conversions and 1 penalty kick). Try (5 points each) scorers for the Blues were Dan Bruce, Dave Wenkle, Mike Amon, Jim Kehrer, Matt Maritz and Steve Wilkerson, who scored twice while earning man of the match honors.

Traverse City travels next weekend to face Kalamazoo.
