04/18/2007McLain at TC Border's tonightTRAVERSE CITY Two-time American League Cy Young Award winner Denny McLain will sign copies of his new book tonight at 7 p.m. at Border's Books in Grand Traverse Crossings. McLain was a 20-game winner by the age of 22 (1966) and went 31-6 in 1968 and helped the Detroit Tigers win the World Series. By 1972, however, he was out of baseball after suffering a torn rotator cuff and run-ins with the baseball establishment and the mob. McLain played for 10 seasons in the majors, going 131-91. After playing eight seasons for the Tigers, he finished with Washington, Oakland and Atlanta. In "I Told You I Wasn't Perfect, McLain recounts his success as well as his rapid fall from glory, which included prison stints and personal tragedy. According to Border's officials, McLain will only sign copies of his book. He will not sign other memorablia. McLain will give a short talk and also hold a question and answer session. For more information about McLain's appearance in Traverse City, call Border's at (231) 933-0412.
